2011 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ, Part II

We just got back from our first trip to the YC. We usually stay at the BC or WL. Although the YC was beautiful, it had the atmosphere of a resort hotel that was more suited to a convention type environment. The Yachtsman Steakhouse fell below our expectations. The food was just okay, and the servers, although very nice, did not have the professionalism that you would expect at a signature restaurant. We will be staying at the BC or WL in the future.:surfweb:

I have to say that unfortunately I agree with you about the Yachtsman Steak House. The quality of the "Prime" New York Strip Steak (dry aged no less!) was no where near what was being promoted. I have really debated publicizing my views of my experience with that meal, especially on this board.

I have thought it over carefully and I've decided that if Disney really wants to charge that amount of money for that kind of dining experience they had better deliver. I really don't know what they are thinking by promising a prime cut of dry aged meat and then thinking they can fool their customers with what is actually served. Something is seriously wrong with the Yachtsman and I hope for the benefit of the guests and their hard earned dollars they fix it, and soon.

By contrast we had a wonderful meal at Le Cellier. Although I had a different cut of beef (Filet) I've been around the table long enough to know the difference between prime and average. Le Cellier delivered, as promised, an outstanding meal.

If you want the real deal, then you know where to go.

Thanks for sharing your opinions about the Yachtsman - so helpful!

Now I have another question - we were planning to stay standard view at the YC but DH suggested Club Level again so here's my quandry...

Standard View, Garden View, Lagoon View

The price differences are (240/260/360). I'm ultimately looking for the quietest area. While a lagoon view sounds nice we are there for only two nights and getting in somewhat late in the afternoon on the first night and leaving early the departure morning so I'm not sure it's worth it to pay for the view. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Club Level in general and which area is the quietest! (Also am I correct that all of the rooms would have a private balcony? From the front of the building it seems that a few might be shared.)

I have finished my Star Wars Weekends pictures.
Only 6 more memory cards to process and then I'll have nothing, NOTHING ;) to do!!

PS. Beach Club Content: BC or YC is a good place to stay for Star Wars weekends. Thus endeth the gratuitous BC/YC content as per the wishes of the BOARD MODERATOR. (Not talking about our dear sweet Dee!)

Thanks to everyone for the honest review of Yachtsman Steakhouse.

That was supposed to be DH's and my "date night". I think I might switch to the Flying Fish. We already have both a dinner and lunch reservation at LeCellier.

My dh would love a view even if it is not a direct one of Epcot. I called today to ask if you can see Epcot and I was told no by one cm and yes by another. I was also told that NONE of the rooms have a balcony but I should book Ohana at BC the kids would love it. I told her Ohana was at Poly she said oh no your wrong.I said it's at Poly CM said no I am sure its at BC:rotfl2:. So my question is can I see Epcot from a Garden View room Non Cl and do non-cl rooms have full balconies?

I know ... that clown is freaky!!!! I agree with you! The other thing I do not like about the Boardwalk resort is that you can't get from the resort to any of the restaurants without going outside and getting wet if it's raining. At the Y&C we have the covered walkway between the YC, BC and BCV so no matter where you are, you can get to everything (except Hurricane Hannah's) without getting wet if it is raining. That's a big plus for me.

I've always liked this about YC/BC but after staying at the Poly again after a 13 year span between trips there, I realized that this was exactly why I hadn't been back there!!!! I LOVE everything being under one roof.:cool1:

Hi Kerry! Welcome Back!

The CM definitely was confused. She must have been thinking of Chef Mickey's at the YC!

While I haven't been to Yachtsman or Flying Fish, my roommate and her family went to both places in January. They said Flying Fish was not good at all, and they much preferred Yachtsman. :confused3 Just goes to show that one opinion does not fit all!

I just happened to look online and a Deluxe Club Level room opened for our stay. Right now we have GV CL booked. I am not sure if I want to switch. I like being on the Club Level but the extra space, especially with the crib would be so nice. Now the biggest thing is we are booked through a TA so I can't even talk to her until tomorrow to try and switch it. What do you guys think? Worth it? The extra cost is not an issue, it isn't that much more.

You will have a much larger room which with a crib would definitely be great. And you still have access to the club level lounge and CMs ... only difference is you are not on the same floor. I'd go with the deluxe!!

I'm doing a beach/beach club themed guest bedroom in my home. I wanted to blow up a picture of the yacht/beach club (Similiar to the pic in my ticker) and put it up on the wall. Does anyone have any great shots of it or know of any links that have great pictures. otherwise I guess it will have to wait until I am there in October.

On the Disney website there are some great shots ... can you use one of them?

Seeing that there are only 6 Deluxe rooms at the BC, and one has opened-up, I would be very tempted to forgo the TA and book it right now (call or online) and work out the switching details/apply any code you have tomorrow. Those rooms go fast.

I didn't think of that--good point. We did the covered walkway over to Captain's Grille, and that was fun. I liked seeing all of the people at SAB!

Sorry I can't help you, LMO429 - but just wnted to say it's a great idea.....
I wouldn't mind a pic like that myself.

My suggestion: Go over to the Yacht & Beach Club Photo thread, find a picture you like, and ask the poster if they would mind you printing it out. I'm doing that with the Disney picture of the day thread for my room at school this year. As long as you don't take credit for the picture, I doubt there would be an issue.

I have a great one that I use as my background on my comp and IPad. I took it when DD and I were there in October. It's a night shot of the YC with the lighthouse taken from the Boardwalk zoomed in, and I love it!! PM me with your email address and i'll send it to you.

Also just looked at my pics from October and I'm pretty sure I took the same pic as your ticker only its daylight not dusk... let me know I'll send you both if you want.

We enjoyed the Flying Fish very much. My DH did have the steak they were offering at the time (can't remember but I think it was a new york strip) and he thought it was great. My DS10 loved the scallops with risotto - cleaned his plate even though the risotto was green! I had their signature red snapper and loved it.

We also liked the proximity to the BC and enjoyed the boardwalk entertainment after dinner.
