2011 Free Dining is Extended! New dates as of 8/3

I can;t afford it either but I go anywayI;m 64 and I believe I deserve to have some fun while I can!!This time was set in stone as it is my Grandaughters 16th birthday trip and we planned on TAX money and to heck with anything else for once !!

I was reading this thread where someone mentioned calling Disney and asking if there was a free dining pin associated with their name, so I thought I would try and see if I had one. I called and when she said YES I had a free dining pin code I got so excited...until she told me the dates for it, from 4/23 to 8/13. Our vacation is scheduled for 10/29-11/6. I can't go June, July or August it is just too hot, and April, this month is just too soon and next month it is the kids last month of school and daughter can't miss because she is iffy in her math grades and might have to take summer school. GO FIGURE!! I get lucky and get something good and can't use it. I forgot to ask her whether it was regular dining or quick service dining but it doesn't really matter since I can't use it.

I did look on the MouseSavers website and the last 2 years in a row they DID offer free dining for my scheduled dates of travel but didn't offer it until late July and early August. I am watching for it and hoping to get it. The only bad thing about getting the free dining that late/close to our travel dates. I probably won't have a lot of luck getting ADR's for and of the table service places we would like to eat at. I am going to go ahead and make ADR's when my window opens up May 2nd and then LATER if I get the free dining plan I will apply it to what we have already made ressies for.

Question: How was the pin associated with your name? Is it because you already had a trip planned and that's why? I'm confused on how you get a pin for the FD. We want to go in early August and would love a pin code if we could get one.

Any ideas?

The pins are random..No one really knows why some get and some don't. If you don't get an email about FD i would call and ask a CM to check if you have a pin assingned to your name. Check the names of the other adults as well because if they have one you can use it too!

I don't understand why people did not book FD when it was offered last fall? There was a huge offering for FD and for rooms only. I got several PIN's by e-mail and snail mail. I also believe there was an offering to the general public. ????

I'm not sure about anyone else's situation- but I couldn't book the promo last fall for a few reasons. The main reason being that I lost my job due to 2 knee surgery's. I was out after surgery for almost 6 mos and had no job to go back to therefore I had no income. Believe me- if I could've afforded it- it would have been booked. We usually visit Disney at least 2-4 times a year and didn't plan on going this year due to our situation. Now things have turned around and we can afford to go. That's why I was hoping that there would be another promo for FD.

I'm sure there are plenty of other people who A) have a similar situation to mine or B) didn't even know about the free dining offer last fall

There is no FD, the announcement was about Shanghai. Don't think we will see FD anymore this year.

Disney did not announce its free dining last year till May 6. Just have to wait

Based on some crowd monitoring sites, it seems attendance is less than predicted on those sites. If WDW is seeing the same less-than-expected park attendance, they will likely release a FD offer in the summer. Since the initial FD offer, the value is continually less and less, as you can read about online. I would expect similar to the PIN offer for summer, where you get QS FD with Vlue and Mods, and only Full FD with Deluxe resorts. I've got my fingers crossed for FD in early Dec this year.

As for FD, Disney UK offered it last month and I'm still keeping fingers crossed US site will later on in the year. We are going out of the dates that were available in December last year so hoping we get some new ones.

I have a sneaky feeling they may do the UK offer this year on the US site though which was for QS for Mods and FD for Deluxe, leaving out Value. This is what the UK site offered for the last 3 years and it wouldn't surprise me, although the QSD for Mod and Val wouldn't surprise me either!

Yes - this is true for many families, my DH included. Vacation schedules are not distributed to employees until the beginning of the year. Then requests are granted by seniority.

So if you are listening, Disney discount planning folks, it would make a lot of sense to offer free dining in January when a lot of us are planning our vacations.

I agree - makes perfect sense. I guess those of us that weren't lucky enough to book in Dec. for the free dining will just have to wait and see.

Well, I only found out this past week that I would be able to go on vacation back to Disney this summer (late August)......that didn't stop me from booking free dining back in December! After all, it is only a $200 deposit to book which is fully refundable up to 45 days out from date of arrival.

I would have been disappointed if I hadn't gotten my vacation when I wanted it but it all worked out and I will be going back to Disney with free dining locked in. It is great not to have the stress of waiting for the promotion. Perhaps next year more people will do the same thing and bring the global stress level down a few bars!....at least for us Disney freaks!

Good for you! I'm watching for '12 FD to be released so I can get my trip booked for next fall!
