This is random, but did anyone ever see the movie "Adventureland" with Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg? I know it's a far, far cry from Cedar Point but still, certain little parts of it made me think of Cedar Point. I liked that movie.

That was all filmed in Kennywood in Pittsburgh. I actually watched the movie just to see the park, but ended up liking the movie a lot more than I thought I would.

Kennywood has some of the best wooden coaster if you are into that. One just celebrated its 90th anniversary.

Jason and I are in! We have been wanting to go to CP since we met in 2004! Still haven't got around to it. Maybe this will make us finally go!

Interesting!! I wondered where they filmed it. :)

According to Yahoo News:

'A trade publication has northern Ohio's Cedar Point amusement park on a roll.

Amusement Today has named the park in Sandusky the overall best amusement park for the 13th straight year.

The industry newspaper has announced the winners of its annual Golden Ticket Awards, based on a survey of people described as "experienced and well-traveled" amusement park fans around the world.

Awards have been given in 25 categories.

Cedar Point's Millennium Force roller coaster also took the prize for best steel coaster."

I would agree that it is a fantastic amusement park. But it is not a fantastic theme park. Great rides are what they do. If theme fits in great, but they focus on the ride, not the storyline.

Cool. :thumbsup2

-Todd, you have too much time on your hands. BTW, where's the giraffe?

We are in! We love CP even though it's no WDW. Top Thrill dragster goes from 0 to 120 in 3.7 seconds!:scared1: Millenium Force was just rated as the top steel coaster in the country, plus they have many, many more.

If you are going to come to CP be prepared for large groups of line cutters. :sad2:

FYI - Cedar Point hosted a "Coasting for Kids" event this past summer where the proceeds from the fundraiser went to Give Kids The World Village in Central Florida. I just emailed the press office at Cedar Fair Entertainment Group to see if they are participating in the fundraiser during the summer of 2011. If so, this may be a great opportunity for us to get together, have fun and give back to Give Kids The World Village. I'll keep you posted. :thumbsup2

Great idea!!

While it's snowing really hard outside, I thought it would be a good time to bring this to the top. It's not too early to plan a summer trip to CP, right? ;)

Keep us posted if we get to help out GKTW by going to CP. Starting to plan 2011. [Once DCL has dates for Dec 2012, will start planning 2012.]

if i'm in detroit at the time of the meet, then it would be great to join in with you all at CP!!

back when we lived in detroit, we would go to CP every summer for a 2 day trip....there was more than enough to do in CP to easily keep us busy for 2 days...

If I was still living in MI I would sooooo go!

Hey JEANIGOR, I am from Rochester Hills to! We had to move to Virginia in September 2009.

Rather than wait endlessly for there to be a consensus (there won't be one) - someone should decide on a date and announce it. There will never be a time that works for everyone.

I'm not sure I could make this, but I would like to try. Once you set the date, I can make the decision.

Are we shooting for a specific day, or are we spreading it over a couple of days? How about the last weekend in July or first weekend in August?

Just a suggestion...If you decided to make a trip to C.P. towards the end of June...you could also hit the Dayton Disneyana Event June 25th and 26th about 2-1/2 to 3 hour south of C.P., the National Air Force Museum, which is FREE (and if you keep your eyes open, there are Disney related items to be found) and another 45 minutes south is Kings Island. Any comments?

hmmm. Dayton Disneyana might just be close enough even if not part of CP trip. More info?

FYI: I called Cedar Point today regarding lodging prices for the summer 2011. The onsite hotel prices will be out mid-February. So, I guess we'd better figure out which week we want to meet-up before then. ;)

August seemed to be a front runner in some people's summer plans. School around here starts on August 22, 2011. So, which weekend works better for y'all ...

August 5, 2011 (PARK HOURS: 10 am - 10 pm)
August 6, 2011 (PARK HOURS: 10 am - 11 pm)
August 7, 2011 (PARK HOURS: 10 am - 10 pm)

or

August 12, 2011 (PARK HOURS: 10 am - 10 pm)
August 13, 2011 (PARK HOURS: 10 am - 11 pm)
August 14, 2011 (PARK HOURS: 10 am - 10 pm)

We're open to either dates.

Our family plans to stay onsite at the Hotel Breakers (space permitted and pricing) due to the park ticket discount ($29.00 v $46.99 Gate Price), early entry admission and proximity to the park or at the off-site property The Great Wolf Lodge and try to get 15 of our closest friends to get the Cedar Point park ticket group discount of $32.00 (48' or taller) / $16.99 (under 48" tall or Age 62+) or find a park ticket coupon or discount.

Make sure to request a Getaway Guide. I have been told it includes valuable Cedar Point coupons. Link HERE

Hope y'all can make it!

:tinker: Jennifer

(PS - Cedar Point hasn't announced whether they are participating in Coasting for Kids this summer.)
