2011 Destashing Thread

We've already taken one load of outgrown or too big clothing to Goodwill and have another full load waiting to go in the truck full of toys and more clothing. The girls are growing so quick it's hard to keep up!

We've destashed their rooms and finished ours up this afternoon. I have 3 boxes of books to go. Love that I have the Kobo now so no more book purchases!

Left to do - Kitchen, Living room, Playroom, front entry, basement. I have 4 more days off before heading back to work so I'm hoping to get at least the main level done then start prepping the basement.

I also would love to destash some of the extra pounds I found when dd - now 10 was born.

Declutter, organize and de-dust in 2011 I must! (My new motto :flower3:)
I have so much to go through like clothes, socks, tshirts (they mulitply like rabbits in my house!) video games, DVDs, video tapes, toys, kitchen items, garage junk, etc, I could go on!

My DD13's room I could declutter everyday. Just don't know how it gets the way it gets, even when we tackle it often.

I will start one room at a time in mid-Jan.

:laundy:

Yesterday I was able to clean out some of the junk drawers in the kitchen while straightening up. It felt good to sort everything out and put it back where it belongs.

We live in a 1600 ft 2 bedroom condo and are considering having a second child (god help us what are we thinking?) In order to do so we have to seriously eliminate the amount of junk in our house so that the 2 kids can share a room comfortably. Hopefully you all can inspire me to do sa without feeling like I'm getting rid of too much.

i"m in... did a lot of decluttering this past year...

Goal for this year:
1) Basement clean out and make into a rec room.....
2) garage....that may take the entire year
3) Laundry room....

if I get these 3 done and maintain what i did this year ..... I will be one Happy camper by years end

question.....besides LUPUS ...which other charity picks up curbside donations

We also have TONS of DVD's for the computer, which are back up disks for all of our programs. DH organized and put each one in a plastic sleeve. Now I just have to buy a binder today, and all that important stuff is nicely organized,
Julia

Can you tell me where you bought the *separate* sleeves for the disks? Are they the kind that hold several DVDs per page, that will go into a regular binder? Or are you using the regular smaller, CD (dvd) type binder?

So far this week, we have gotten rid of:

2 desktop computers (w/ all the extras)
1 big computer desk
1 office chair for computer desk
1 box of misc computer cords and cables

Not a bad start to the "new" year

To help with the cds (back-up of photos, etc) I found something similar to this at office depot. I was able to just put them in a 99 cent binder.

Well, I guess they're not DVD's, they are the discs that are for the computer program...but still a DVD or CD shape.

basically, I just got page protectors and we put one disc plus the paperwork in each. I bought a 2 inch binder (in a hot pink-no mistaking which one it is) and we put it on a shelf.

I could probably go fancier, but this worked fine.

Very happy!

I'm exhausted but got TONS done in the past 2 days!!

I have 2 boxes of dishes that are going to Goodwill...plus 2 large boxes of children's clothing and toys and 1 box of Christmas stuff.

I have a box of stuff to sell to the used children's clothing store.

I have a box of toys to give to my neice.

I have 2 boxes that are going to my sister (she is having twins).

Plus 2 giant trash bags got thrown away!!!

I have a little organizing blog that I started last year, and I am determined to do more posting this year :)

Everyone just reminded me...I have tubs of photos that I need to take care of this year also.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but I also had tubs of photos to organize. This past summer, I noticed QVC had a picture scanner where you could scan pictures onto a SD card. It works pretty good. So DD13 has been working on that for me a box at a time. I am also burning to CD (from computer) as a back-up, just in case. It's making a big difference!

Wow, that's alot of decluttering :thumbsup2

I somehow ended up working on my garage this week. I've gotten rid of two bikes, a bed frame, and a baby crib. I've also been selling old electronics on ebay (even broken ones sell pretty well). The kids cleaned out the movies today, but I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do with them.

One thing I do, that keeps me going is I dump EVERYTHING in the middle of the room and go through it. I don't stop until everything has been gone through. I can't stand to have messes, so this keeps me motivated :)

My husband HATES this system :)

I am going to do a major declutter these next couple of months! We're moving from Maine to North Carolina this summer and I need to get rid of the junk!

I've been good at decluttering from the upstairs parts of the house.

The problem is that all the clutter has been moved to the basement ("Oh, I'll list that on craigslist soon.") Well, it's still there.

I also need to find a used bookstore near me (anybody know of any on Long Island)?

I'm happy to donate stuff, but could kind of use the extra $ selling stuff could bring in.

So...basically, my indecision is cluttering my house!

I sold mine in a yard sale last fall DVDs and VHS

I so need this thread!! Hopefully I can do more then just read the posts! I'm a serious clutter junky and it's going to be a long route to sanity in my house but maybe 2011 is the year for it.
