2011 Beach & Yacht Club FAQ

I have stayed at almost every resort on property with the exception of GF. After staying at values, moderates and the Poly (twice and 13 years apart) I have learned that I just don't really care for hotels with separate outside buildings. I really like being under one roof. I stayed at BC initially and liked it but continued to try other resorts. I had stayed at BWV and was trying to book a stay at BWI when there was no availability. There was availability at YC and the reservation CM was trying to convice me to stay there. I explained that I had already stayed at BC and while liking it I wanted to try somewhere different. She assured me while it was similar it would be a completely different experience. That was 10 YC trips ago. This is where I keep coming back to now. It is true. Everyone wants something different and has different expectations from their vacation experience. I'm so glad I decided to take her advice and try the YC even after having stayed at the BC. I have been back to the BC since and would stay there again if I couldn't get YC, but YC has become my home.:cloud9: It makes me very happy and my son has been going since he was 3 and he is now 10. He's happy there too and thinks it's very kid friendly.:goodvibes
We, too, love the YC. This will only be our second time but hope to continue coming back. We've been to CBR, POR, WL, and YC. And the the feeling the YC gave me last time, and I'm sure this summer, is just indescribable.

In fact, once I showed my kids the aerial photo of SAB, there really was no choice. My boys were 2 & 4 last time, so it's a whole new experience for us at the YC. :cloud9:

Regarding the how much independence child swimmers should be allowed issue - I'll admit I was an over protective parent, one hot summer day my 17 yr. old son called and asked if he and his friend could swim in our pool, I asked the friend's mom what she thought (we were coworkers) and she gently reminded me that since my son's summer job was working as a lifeguard for the city, it was probably ok:fish::fish:

We're thinking of staying at the YC again, having stayed there in 2010.

Last time we had a standard room 454 my DS thinks, which over looked the wedding gazzebo. I would like a room on the opposite side to this, so facing epcot, does anyone know what room numbers these are please. The reason for wanting this is, is that it gets more sun on a morning, when I like to sit outside. From looking at the new first post though, it maybe that these rooms are now garden view as Disney appears to have re-catagorised its rooms.

If that's the case, then can anyone recommend a nice standard view room, as I don't want to paying nearly $10000.00 for a view of a car park. We;re flying from the UK and staying for two weeks. I may have to change our plans and stay at OKW, which has better views, but isn't in a good location as the YC.

All standard view rooms have a view of either a roof or a parking lot. The garden view rooms are usually less than $10 more per day so you might want to consider changing to garden view. If you go back somewhere on this thread some UK guests had trouble booking the garden view but if you are persistent with your travel agent and MAKE them call Disney, it can be done. One UK guest did finally get hers changed to garden view after her UK travel agent kept insisting they could not book garden view.

Also, on the day you check in, talk to a manager immediately and tell them you want to upgrade to garden view and want to pay for it. If you are there 14 nights, it probably will only be around $100 for the entire trip.

To see the room at the Yacht Club, go to: http://www.disneyzone.net/ycresort.htm
Keep in mind this is a very old map and does not show the right categories and some information printed is totally wrong. Only use this for room numbers.

My bad, thought I had read on this board about a kid's adventure that takes off from the dock at YC/BC and goes around the lagoon and into WS looking for treasure. Thought that sounded like a neat thing for a boy's ninth birthday. Guess I had the wrong resort.

You're correct ... there is a pirate cruise at the Y&B.

The Pirates and Pal cruise is from the docks at the Contemporary.

Ah, I love it when everyone is correct. The Pirates and Pals cruise is from the CR....But the pirates cruise at the Y&B is called the Albatross Treasure Cruise. Enjoy.

@sndral - hilarious but I can feel you since I happen to be an over-protective parent :). I blame mine on being a nurse and seeing too much trauma - makes me feel better to blame something besides myself lol

Thanks y'all!!! I can't wait to swim around SAB with him this summer

Looks like I'll be sticking around this thread!!! :cool1: DH has no desire to stay at the Poly and he's SUPER excited about the BC CL! If you knew my DH...he's normally like this  when I talk about Disney and now he's more like this

I guess it's time to dig in and read all 200+ pages of this thread! :)

If you guys would like to be added to the page 1 guest lists, please post your dates/resort.

:banana::banana::banana:

Don't feel bad, I got the bug to stay at the Poly a few days back and DH is not a fan of the tropical theme at the Poly so I did the math and decided against bringing it up unless some great discount comes my way.

BC makes more sense for us this trip since our main focus is the F&W Festival and we know we love walking back from Epcot in the evenings after having dinner there from the time we stayed at YC

I just want to say that our family is so excited about coming back to the YC/BC/BCV area on our upcoming trip.....20 more days :yay:. We are staying at BCV for the first time (we have stayed in BC back in December '09 and loved everything about it) and cannot wait to meet TeenaS. Teena, we will be there from Thursday May 5 to Saturday May 14th, I hope to run into you sometime during our stay :goodvibes. Thanks to all of you wonderful DISers on this thread because reading all of these 200+ pages has answered all of my questions and then some....You guys ROCK!!!! :worship:

I'll be there (in the BC lobby) on Saturdays and Sundays in May ... see you soon!!!

Thank you Natmebama and TennaS. I will be using a UK TA called Virgin Holidays, so I don't think they will be able to get me a garden view room.

IF they can, what number rooms are on the side opposite the wedding Gazebo facing Epcot please? Also are the rooms on the ground floor garden view too, or are these in a different catagory?

I am wanting to know so that I can quote the room numbers on my booking. Maybe if they can't arrange the Garden view room, I could ask them to insert on the booking, guest will be requiring Garden room and will pay for the upgrade at checkin, that might work. I will also send a PM to the UK poster.

I can't book through Disney, as I have a heavy discount on my Virgin booking available. (Reward points).

Yay!! As I mentioned in the PM, I can really understand why you were considering Poly - we love it there too! But I'm happy to know that you'll be sticking around with us here on the BC/YC thread - and can't wait to hear what you think of SAB and BC CL! It's hard to say who loved CL most - my husband, our boys or my dad.

P.S. Our pre-schooler was sitting with me when I responded to your PM and asked what I was doing. I told him I was writing about Disney. He asked if there was a problem. I explained your Poly vs. BC issue and asked him what he thought. He said, "Beach Club Disney hotel!" (That's what he calls it.) Then he said, "But go to the Polynesian Disney hotel to eat breakfast with Lilo and Stitch." I thought that was good advice! :)

Along those lines, if anyone has questions from their kids about BC, our oldest is a pre-teen and loves to share his opinions about anything! He's anxiously awaiting the day that we let him set up an account on these boards - he even selected a screen name!

If it faces the wedding gazebo and not the lake, then it is definitely a garden view. First, it is not a good idea to request a specific room. What happens is that there is a very slim chance the room or even rooms you request are going to be vacated on the day you check-in. So, the computer and room assignor will see that your room is not available on your check-in day and then just put you anywhere. The way to request something is to say "wedding gazebo view requested". However, if you put that request in and you booked a standard view, then that request will be totally ignored because there is no such thing.

Does Virgin give you a choice between standard and water? If yes, then they can also get the garden view ... but the UK travel agents apparently have not been updated with the new categories so you have to be firm and tell them they must call Disney .... as you can see from the other posts from UK, if you don't push, they aren't going to push for you. If you see garden view rooms are available for your length of stay (go on the WDW site and pretend to book it), then you can get them if you push Virgin into it.

In just a few more days :cool1: I will checking in to the BC for the first time. After reading the 'not impressed' thread, I have to say that some of the reasons that "they" name for not liking the resort make me happy that I choose the BC. Not having a food court is no big deal to me. I have stayed at WL, Poly, POFQ and Pop and I found theirs to all be messy, nasty, and noisey. I don't have any small children so I don't have to worry about SAB being too big. However, one of the reason I LOVE disney so much is watching other people's children having a blast! :thumbsup2 I think BC will be a good fit for us. I enjoyed my visits at WL, Poly, and POFQ but those just didn't feel like home to me. I hated Pop and will never stay there again. Since I live at the beach, I think BC will feel like home more than the others. I'm happy with my decision and it's all I can do to keep from doing online check in!!! Even though I don't really care what room or view we have, I still want to experience check in to see how it compares with the other resorts I have stay at. Poly was the worst for this, followed by Pop. Believe it or not! lol...

Stop by and say hello on Saturday or Sunday!!!

Just eight days until BC - so exciting! :cheer2: Hope you love it as much as we do!

Edited to add: Thanks to a PM, I realized that it looks like I'll be there in eight days too! I wish we were, but we're not - just cheering for summersalt!

thanks for that, i have phoned them and their contract is standard or water. They can request standard garden view to avoid the car park, as when they formed the contract with Disney, there were only two catagories available. So that's good news. Now my next question is, if I requested Wedding gazebo, facing Epcot, are any of these rooms standard, as I'm sure I read on the first thread that some of them were, although I note the map shows them as water view? Thanks for your help

I can't look on Disney USA, as their bookings don't go up to 2012. Disney UK does not give the option of garden view, only standard or pool.
