First of all I would like to offer prayers to all that are dealing with medical issues.. and with that in mind....I am almost embarrassed to post this....

We are supposed to fly out Friday morning for 9 nights at BCV. I have used all the research, planning, reservations, lurking, and posting of the last 7 months as a stress release for my new job as middle school principal. Well tonight... my son (16) broke his hand in a baseball game... I thought that I was going to throw my body to the ground when the ER doctor was unable to set it. I dug deep and tried my best to not show my true feelings to my husband and son. In the last 2 hours, we have had two different Dr. friends call two different specialists... one actually said it didn't sound like an emergency and we could take care of it when we get back and the other looked at the xrays at home and said he thinks he can set it in the morning without surgery. So now, I am back on track and believe that a little pixie dust has been sent my way. I am hopeful that we will make our flight on Friday... we may be moving slower and dealing with swelling and pain but we'll still be able to enjoy the magic!

Glad to here Teena got some positive news.

The boy with the broken hand - praying that his fracture will be reduced before your trip. I thnk he'll be much more comfortable if it is taken care of rather than just splinted.

I think we need a Yacht and Beach Club Visitors thread and a Yacht and Beach Club Resort thread. :rotfl2:

So tough to keep up with everyone!

Tracy, so sorry to hear about your son's hand. I hope he is not in a lot of pain and is able to enjoy the trip. If you get a chance, let us know later today how it is going.

Sending pixie dust!

Hi everyone,

My mom and I returned home today from our 4 nights at the BC, standard view club level. This was our second time staying at the BC (first also was CL). The resort itself is as gorgeous as I remember it being. My absolute favorite thing about the resort is SAB - which we did not get to use the last 2 days of our trip because of weather. But it was fun while it lasted. Our room was kept very clean and always made up when we returned in the afternoon. We had a different towel animal everyday, which I just thought was cute and my mom loved them  They honored my requests of a full balcony, near the lounge. We were in 5668, pretty much right over the entrance to the resort, BCV to the right. We could see a lot of the high Illuminations fireworks from our room, if you looked to the right and leaned a smidge, and if I looked the right way through a tree, I could see Wishes as well. I noticed when we entered the room (which was ready at 12 noon when we arrived), that all of the pillows were not on the bed. So as we were heading downstairs, I mentioned that we did not have our pillows and they were brought up almost instantaneously.

The lounge itself was well kept - they were always clearing plates. I did notice they would only put out one tray of someting at a time which seemed odd, but things were replenished rather quickly. We were always able to get a seat in the lounge for breakfast and the one time we ate the appetizers in the evening. Afternoon and night time snacks were always taken back to our room. I will say, that I was a little disappointed with some of the guests. At least the ones I observed while in the lounge. There seemed to be many feelings of "entitlement" among some of the guests and many spoiled children. I don't book CL because I think I'm better than anyone else, but apparently these people do think that. But it made for some entertaining meals while in the lounge. I do have to say that there is a strong possibility that I would not stay club level again at this resort. For the extra cost, I just don't know if its worth it, especially comparing it to some of our other CL experiences (Poly stands out as head and shoulders above the others). I would however not hesitate to return to the BC, especially if our trip had a lot of Epcot and DHS planned.

Feel free to ask any specific questions. I know I'm not a BC veteran, but I was just there so ask away!

Thanks so much for the review. Erika is doing a live triip report right now from BC CL and she pretty much echoes your thoughts on some of the guests in the lounge. That is ridiculous....What a zoo crew...you got to wonder about some of these parents....If your mom is anything like mine did she stare in amazement and loudly comment to them? LOL!!

Anyhoo - glad you liked your room and had an otherwise great stay! We have stayed at YC CL last year and again this summer and loved it! That Epcot location can't be beat!!! I heard the lounge is still 24 hours a day and hope that is true this summer as well!!!!!

Thanks for the review, Wonders10!

Yes, Erika's LTR/BC-CL report echoes Wonders10's, but is more graphic and detailed about the poor CL situation right now:eek:.

It's so disappointing to read the BC CL reviews, I was purposely not staying cl this trip due to 'fellow' guest experiences last time but being a solo traveller I like the security (or at least the feeling of being secure) of a keyed access area, I've just changed to CL (non discounted).

I just don't get the feeling of entitlement that some CL guests appear to exhibit, a large proportion are on discounts in any event and staying CL whether discounted or not does not make one any better than a non CL guest.

I won't be making use of the lounge during the evening as I like to go out for dinner, and I can see myself saying something if I encounter what others have. :sad2:

Does it make you tempted to do BWI CL instead, Clare? You loved it there...there have been a couple disappointig posts about BC CL in the last week but maybe it is just the craziness of Spring Break and the attitude that goes along with it....I know you wanted something different this trip but it also depends on time of year you go to. I think you are going in November? That isn't over thanksgiving right? I think you will be fine then...BC does tend to get young kids - they pride themselves on that atmosphere where at BWI and YC dont...They are there sure but not in droves....that turned me off to BC last year as we noticed it right away walking over from YC but if you are there in off peak time I think you are ok...Melissa

Doccoc2002- great news about your MRI...adding you to the prayers list..:goodvibes

Teena- so glad your surgery is over and successful...rest up...we look forward to having you back when you are stronger...keeping you in my thoughts and prayers

Dawn Maree- late to the party but we did surrey bikes with 5...our kids were 12,8,3...the kids all sat in the front...it was a blast...we were laughing so hard, we needed a push up the bridge between the YC and BWI.

Wonders10- thanks for the TR!

Elliefusmom- hope your sons hand is Ok for your trip and you enjoy yourselves. A couple years ago my son fell off his playset the day before we left for disney and broke his wrist...that was a stressful night...but luckily it got casted and we had a great vacation, and a cast with signatures for a souvenier!

pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust: coming your way.... MY DH just did this and he got this really neat Velcro brace that wrapped around and held everything in place, it had steel bars running on all side to protect it, and it kept the swelling down.

Good luck and prayers...

You're not late! Thanks for the feedback. :goodvibes We may need to do a "test seat" to see if we can all fit in. Kids are getting bigger. Sounds like fun tho!

Hi,

I see on the first page in the SAB info that there are complimentary life vests at the pool. Does anyone know if they have vests for toddlers (2 1/2 years)? We use a zip-front speedo vest for her and if I don't have to pack it, I won't (trying to pack lighter this trip) :)

Thanks!

Giving this a bit of a bump but I'm confident they do have toddler vests. They are required for boat rentals so I'm sure they have them. No little ones in our family though so I'm hoping someone will confirm for you.

The furniture on the balcony was nice. Did not know it was new. I will try calling guest relations and find out more about the pearl, seemed crazy expensive. I am missing the BCV very much right now. Back home in Chicago and its only 35-40 degrees. Husband was so funny. He is so against vacations due to costs, etc. but everytime he is on one he always comments how much of a good time he is having, etc. Pre-trip he told me not to plan any new vacations for a long time. Post trip he said maybe in 2 years we can come back. I really really liked BCV so next trip not sure where we will stay, we were thinking Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower but I am mixed. I guess I have plenty of time!!!

Isn't this cold getting old? I hope your DH sees the light about vacations. :wizard: Good luck with the pearl.

Third trip to BCV. I just love it there. I particularly like to relax in the beach area at the end of the day. I watch the people on the surrey bikes and wonder how they have the energy to ride around the lake after walking around a theme park all day.

One of the things I like about the villas is having the washer/dryer in the room. I can do laundry on the last night, throw the clean clothes in our Owner's Locker, and they're ready and waiting for us when we return.

Another BCV veteran! Don't you love the w/d? I never would have guessed that it would be one of our favorite things about DVC. We use the w/d as a clothes hamper and I run one load/day. So easy and we go home with all clean clothes. Love it.

I was thinking about Captain's Grille for dinner and Cape May for breakfast. We have a first timer with us that wants to see the characters even though she's 15.

Adding one more vote to that plan! :surfweb:

elliefusmom, I hope your son's wrist is set today and that he can enjoy WDW without too much pain. Perhaps you can use the freezer in the villas to chill bags of frozen veggies. They work well to help reduce the pain and swelling. Good luck to him.

pixarmom, have a great trip! :cool1:

Teena, hope every day is a bit better. Rest well.

Wonders10, thanks for your review. Sorry to hear about the entitled children.

My take on behavior like that is that it can happen at any of the resorts. It just depends on the families there at the time. I remember a short Sugar Loaf stay. I think we were only there 3 nights but I remember the first two nights, I couldn't believe my eyes. Adults were completely surrounding the center serving table like vultures as the CMS tried to start the 5-7pm service. That happened on both Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday night, it was as if a whole new clientele was there....peaceful and civilized. I remember one night in the lounge at the Polynesian, another lady and I were waiting patiently in line to get a glass of wine when this woman (certainly no lady) stalked up, cut in line and emptied the bottle into her glass all the while telling us which kind of wine we should take. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: It was amazingly rude. Takes all kinds but if you're staying club level, you're sort of at the mercy of fellow guests.

My niece turned 3 while we were at WDW and they had a vest to fit her. She is a little on the small side. I think the problem can be having enough for all the kids, though. We had to wait a little bit until one became available.

Just want to let you all know I have heard from Teena. She is back home, very tired and very sore- too uncomfortable to post or catch up on the boards (she is going to have a few pages to get through when she gets to it)
:)

The surgeon is extremely confident that they got out everything this time. Teena expects to start radiation on April 25.

I knowTeena appreciates all of your prayers and good wishes for these past couple of months!

:grouphug:

Thanks for sharing the info. Good news about getting it all out. :cheer2:

Welcome back Teena. Keep your chin up, stay strong. My prayers are still with you!!! Rest up.

Having withdrawals of the BCV. Back at work (boo) and just missing it all. Loved, loved the resort and all its amenities.

Still waiting on Wolff Camera to retrieve all my photos that I took (even got a few nice ones with Teena). Totally stincks that I bought a new camera the week before our vacation and on our 2nd the last day the camera said that all my 200+photos could not be found. Seems I got sold a corrupted memory card. Camera store is still working on getting my photos back, not looking good as its been 3 days that they have had it. Not sure how much complaing I can do, other than my whole vacation memory with my kids and husband may be gone!!!

Hi Melissa :wave2: I'm going part of 'jersey week' :scared1:, the more I'm thinking about things the more I'm thinking I might stick with the standard room, paying non discounted CL is a whole heap of money if I sort of know what 'might' be waiting for me ;) I really want to stay at the BC this time as I love the decor of the rooms, plus I'd like to spend some time around stormalong bay. I've stayed at the YC before and loved it there too but I'm not loving the new decor.

:welcome:

Welcome aboard, Steve Trek! My family loves BCV and hope yours does, too. Want to make sure you know BCV villas are smaller than OKW. We think everything else more than makes up for that though. :cool1:

Thanks for the warm welcome as well as the heads-up about the size of the BCV villas vs. OKW. In '06 DD brought a cousin along making us a party of four, so the larger size there was a welcome feature. There will be just the three of us this time, so to quote Mr. Spock, "A difference that makes no difference is no difference."

Hi guys ... I'm actually sitting up and on the computer. I can't thank you enough for all the prayers, pixie dust, thoughts, wishes, etc. you have all sent. It really helped me get through these past few months... what an ordeal.

Dr. McLaughlin called an hour ago and all pathology is back and I'm in the clear. Just need to get through the next few days of pain. I will get to meet with the radiation people next week and Dr. McLaughlin says I can start radiation on 4/25. So I guess starting that week I'll be working Saturdays and Sundays for six weeks instead of Sundays and Mondays since radiation will be every day Monday through Friday. Dr. McLaughlin said I don't need to come back to the Mayo for six months although she'll see me before that since they are coming to the Beach Club for their first Disney vacation.

I'm hurting more than the first surgery but she said she went all the way to the muscle this time so that's probably why. And this time I itch ... especially my back. They did a back block again too but I didn't itch like this last time. I'm driving poor Bob nuts with rubbing cream on my back. At least once I got home I had my back scratcher so I wasn't bugging him every five minutes to scratch my back. I'm using my pain meds and ice like crazy ... hopefully I'll start feeling better tomorrow. I am planning on working Sunday and Monday.

So hit me with those questions again and I'll try to keep the answers coming!

Thanks again for everything ... you all really helped me get through everything!!!

I have to say that made me cry some happy tears!!!!

I'm so glad to hear from you and know that you are recovering and are moving one step closer to completely knocking this nasty mess out of your body!

October 17th was my "all clear" day... and I promise you that you will always look back on the day you got "the good call" and smile.

Blessings and prayers moving forward!!!
