2011-2012 Boston Bruins (Offseason)

That is what BDL and I thought also. Good thing it wasn't his knee (I believe they said during the broadcast that he had work done on his left knee already). BDL seems to think that the injury they are reporting may be a mask for the real injury, but I think it's a wait and see situation like with all these injuries. Hope Turco will help the cause!!

he did have surgery on it recently. hence why everyone is afraid thats what it was.... what does he think the "real" injury is? thats an interesting theory!

The key phrase for the next couple of weeks is "Wait and see." We have to wait and see:

-How will Peverley's knee react to his return
-Will Horton be back for the playoff (if at all)
-How serious is Ferrence's injury
-Will Turco clear waivers
-The extent of Tuukka's injury

The official release by the Bruins in regard to Tuuk's injury is that it is a groin/abdomen strain. At first glance, I'd have sworn that it was his left knee.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSzIx1Akd3c

If you look, as soon as he goes down, he scrambles to toss his stick and glove so that he could point to his knee. But now that I have had time to think, the knee issue may have just been a hyperextension. Anyone who has played sports and hyperextended their knee (myself included) KNOWS how scary and painful those first few seconds are.

But that still leaves the Bruins release that it was a muscle injury. Digging in the recesses of my brain, I flashed to my A&P classes and Sports Medicine classes. And I remembered that there was a muscle that starts just over the "cheeks", comes over the hip to the front, through the groin area, down the inner thigh and into the back of the shin. I just couldn't remember the name of it. Then dug a bit more, and here it is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sartorius_muscle

So, if we are not to call the B's bold faced liars about Tuuk's injury, this would be the most likely culprit. I can see why they would want to hide the nature of this injury. This muscle pretty much allows for any and all lower body movements for a goalie.

I think it's safe to say, Khudobin will be wearing a spoked B before Rask (even if Turco clears waivers, he can't be on the playoff roster due to signing after the trade deadline).

Like I said... Wait and see.

I bet it was a very quiet place to be on Saturday! And that must have been a horrible feeling to have when you saw Tuukka go down :( Hopefully it will be closer to the 4 week mark for him to work his way back, but at least the Bruins aren't just relying on Providence for their back ups (especially where there are injuries there as well).

But, he can't play in the post season if we get that far because he missed the trade deadline. So if Rask isn't back by then, we will have to go to PVD.

BDL, I don't think he was reaching for the knee. I see it as shaking off the gloves and reaching for the boy parts. I think he was waving off the play because as he goes down, they hadn't blown the whistle yet.
I could definitely see it as just a groin pull. As a girl who's done many a split in my time, the move of the kicked out leg is ok but once you rotate like he did when he popped back on his butt, all bets are off. I've done that before and it hurts like the dickens!

Hopefully he will get better quickly!

I've got tonights game on TIVO and we just finished the first period. Hopefully we can get some good plays in.

Very true about not being able to use Turco in the off season, but, while I know solid goal tending would be a must to advance in the playoffs, they would also need a more consistant game in front of the net. Hopefully having a veteran goalie will help them win more than they will lose before the playoffs and that could help morale/confidence which is part of the puzzle. And, if things go well, Tuukka will be back by then. But you are right, bottom line is if Tuukka doesn't return for the playoffs to have both of our goalies, then it would be a tough run.

The game last night was great. Enjoy watching if you haven't already watched it :)

I am now convinced that the cute little snow hat I bought on saturday at the game is cursed and caused us to lose. I wore it every day, including yesterday, and i'm not even lying as soon as I took it off, they scored a goal.

first i caused Rask to hurt himself, then I caused them to lose! Why am I cursed lately?!

The question is are you willing to test the theory any further? It would be a shame if you couldn't wear your cute hat anymore! I know that BDLs Bruschi jersey is cursed because he wore it during the first Super Bowl the Pats lost and I wore it during the last one, so I know how you feel.

apparently i am allowed to wear it on days with no games... so pretty much i'll be wearing it all summer :headache: haha

Yeah, we need to have a ceremonial burning of the hat!!!

Game was Sweet!! It was like watching the old Bruins play!! DD was stoked when Chara got a goal, she loves him. We told her he scored it for her birthday which is today, LOL.
He was her letter Z for show and tell this week. :rotfl2:

I was pleased that it wasn't the standard line making the shots too. Caron is definitely coming into his own.

Now if we could just get rid of Corvo, I'd be happy.

We go home for 2 game next, right?

Yep - next 2 at home then away for 3 and back home for St. Patty's Day! We are going to the 3/17 game :)

Lucky you!!! Tickets are way to expensive for 6 of us to go. DS15 really wants to go see a game so I think DH will take just him someday.

You are right that it is expensive. It's expensive just for the 2 of us to go, nevermind if we had kids! We have season tickets which we sell the majority of, but it makes it cheaper for us to go rather than buying tickets for individual games. We have had the tickets for I think 4 years now (before they started winning and there were plenty available).

Well, it's been an exciting 16 hrs. A real offensive (in a good way) showing by the B's (turnovers and breakaways gotta be curbed though). Then the ticking countdown clock for noon today. Especially with the rumors that Ottawa might step in as a spoiler and put in a waiver request on Turco. As far as I know, the Sens DID NOT put in the waiver request. The reason I say "as far as I know" is because FRIGGIN' 98.5 won't shut up about the FRIGGIN' Peyton Manning press conference. GOD!!! Hopefully, there will be an announcement before I'm done.

Back to last night's game. Who here thinks that there are at least a couple of NHL teams kicking themselves for not acting when Jordan Caron was on the trading block at the deadline?

***BREAKING NEWS*** Marty Turco cleared waivers and is already skating with the Bruins as of 12:42pm. I now return you to my opinionated ramblings...

Caron stepped up huge and is making the most of his opportunity. His ice time can only increase the way he keeps playing Julien style hockey. But he wasn't the only multi-goal scorer for the Bruins last night. Over the past 2 years, these Bruins/Leafs games have become the epitome of "Anything you can do, I can do better" Seguin/Kessel. And not to be out done, Seguin finished 2+0=2 +1 vs. Kessel's 1+1=2 -2. Granted, 1 of Seguin's goals was the slightest of deflections of a Chara wrister. But the spinning shot that Seguin had at the end of the 2nd per. was awesome. The game got real interesting and scary in the 3rd. Grabovski's goal (from beginning to end) was a beautiful display of speed, passing and skating. And the flurry of shots all the way down to the last 2 sec was nerve wracking. In the end, the B's walked out with 2 pts.

Next on the schedule is the recently surging Buffalo Sabres. They are just 4 pts out of the 8th spot and are still a little miffed at the Bruins play. Should be a fun one.

my stupid souvenir diet coke was 6.50. I got back to my seat, and my wonderful father wanted a sip, not realizing it was diet. He put it down, and guess what happened. it spilled EVERYWHERE. I spent 13.00 bucks on soda alone at that game... plus the hat that now I apparently can't wear which cost 30... i'm lucky these were a christmas present!

last year though was the worst. approx. 200 dollar tickets to see game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against tampa bay. sold my soul to get those tickets but it was an AMAZING game.

I agree. there are probs a few people not pleased about their decisions regarding Caron. he's doing really well!

I know what you mean about the food/drink stuff. It is ridiculous that you spend almost $20 on a soda and a hot dog at the Garden. One perk of the season tickets is we get a 15 % discount in the pro shop and they have a shopping day once a year (usually at christmas) when it is 25% off. Not that it makes it any less expensive to buy stuff, but it helps (especially when we have a lot of B's fans in the fam - great built in gifts at Christmas). But, like you said about your game 5 experience, sometimes the expense is well worth it. We went to all the possible games during the Vancouver series and that was so memorable (especially for my Dad who has been a fan since the 70's and never actually went to a playoff game before)! It's like the mastercard commercial....PRICELESS!

You guys are making me jealous. My DDs want nothing more than to go to a Bruins game, but I can't stomach paying stub hub prices for tickets. Enjoy!!!

I wouldn't pay stub hub prices either. Have you tried the ticket exchange on ticketmaster? They have a place where season ticket holders can sell their tickets if they don't want them. I am not sure if it's open to everyone but it's worth a shot. It can still be expensive with all the fees and stuff, but it's better than stub hub. Another tip would be to ask around and see if you know any season ticket holders that may want to get rid of tickets. We don't use the ticket exchange but we do sell a majority of our games (too expensive to go to all of them). We sell ours to friends and family and people are willing to buy because they know they won't find tickets for the price they get from us. They get the pair of tickets for less than what you would pay for 1 ticket on ticketmaster or stub hub. The other option is to hope the B's tank again so prices come back down, but I don't think anyone would really cheer for that option :)

Thanks for the suggestion on the ticket exchange. I will check there. And no, I won't hope that the Bruins tank. :rotfl:

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It took 8 weeks, but the Bruins finally won 2 in a row.

Not gonna lie. When Thomas let in Pominvilles goal I was in full "here we go again" mode. But I owe Timmy an apology. With the exception of the time he came about 12' out of the net while Buffalo was in in the offensive zone, he was flashing the leather like Ozzie Smith and kicking his legs like an '80s break dancer on a cardboard box.

The turnovers were still present. And if they were committed against a team that had more than 1 dedicated scoring line, the result might be different.

It's always good to see the scoring come from different locations. A 4th line center, a 2nd pair D-man and resurgent offensive force (still not 100% on borad with the new line).

Speaking of scoring, I hate kicking a man while he's down, but last night Jonas Enroth became the poster boy of why you can't be a strictly butterfly goalie in the NHL. I can't help but think if he stayed on his feet, all three of those goals would have gone of his body (including Campbell's deflection).

The B's got a tough weekend ahead of them. Got the Caps who are tied and clinging on to the 8th slot and then the Pens who are pushing to stay in the top 1/2 of the playoff rankings. Gonna be tough. I wonder which game Turco will start?

In closing, happy birthday this week to Bruins legend and icon Milt Schmidt. He is 94 years young and I still live in fear that if he wanted to, he could drag back side onto the street and stomp on it. And there wouldn't be a thing I could do to stop him.

No BDL you don't owe Thomas an apology. Not after 4 more goals against the Caps today. These guys can't stand prosperity. It's time to play Turco for a while and give TT some rest before the playoffs before they get bounced in the first round, and the way they are playing now you know that's a definate possiblity.
