2011/2012 Beach & Yacht FAQ, Part IV- DO NOT POST- see new 2012 thread

Hi everyone!
We are long time Beach Club fans but are considering a night at the Yacht Club without our kids to celebrate our anniversary. Anyone know how awful the YC concierge standard views are? We are trying to decide between a YC water view and a YC club level standard view. Club level is $50 more expensive. If the club level standard views are parking lot than we might do it. If club level views are roof top and air conditioners than we might rather have the water view. Any experience or opinions? TIA!

Hi everyone.:wave2: My daughter and I will be staying at BCV for Thanksgiving, 11/20-11/25. This will be our second visit. We just fell in love with the resort when we were there 9/2010. Cant's wait to see it in all its Christmas splendor. Just wanted to say what a wonderful thread you all have created. I have been a faithful lurker for some time now. Hope to lurk less and post more. Please include our names on the list. By the way, the lazy river challenge sounds like a mission for the noodle family. Would love to see those pics.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks for the nice words about the group here. Glad you posted and hope to see you around!

I'll add you to the list.

I usually just lurk and rarely post comments, but I have really enjoyed reading this thread daily. My family and I will be staying YC cl in May and this is a first for us. Previously, we stayed RPC at the GF. The posters on this thread are so nice and I am really enjoying the humor. Marlton Mom, you crack me up. Your sense of humor is both hilarious and intelligent. I can't wait until our YC vacation and I will continue to read this thread often. Thanks for all of the laughs, great information, and tips.

Thanks for delurking and for your upbeat compliments. Marlton Mom cracks us all up although we should all start charging her for the keyboards we have to replace after spitting our coffee, soda or GGS all over our computers after reading her posts.

Let us know the dates of your stay in May if you would like to be added to the Page 1 Be Our Guest list.

I have only stayed at the BC, so I can't help with YC standard views. Anyone out there have some pictures???

Personally, I would jump right on that CL room over the view, but that is my own opinion. I don't really care what I'm looking at, so if I can be out there on my balcony with a nice snack from the lounge and glass of wine/beer or some Harvey's Bristol Creme (wait, that's Beach Club Dee), I'm happy.

Oh sweet Jesus don't get that woman started! Her head is large enough already. She has the kind of ego where she thinks she can wear white after labor day. Just think of the havoc she could wreak if she was encouraged!!!

As for the lazy river it takes us 10 minutes or less to get around it. It really depends on how many people are trying to hitch a ride on us and if they plan on going in the same direction. 9 year old boys have been known to do a lazy river lap in 4 minutes flat but they take out half the pool in their wake and spend the other 6 minutes being whistled at by the life guards.

Elderly ladies in the flower petal latex bathing caps (Teena is FOND of these and has been known to wear them around the house 'just because') usually take forever to get around Storm Along Bay due to the aerodynamic disturbances that this type of adornment causes. If these ladies are accompanied by their husbands the pair have been known to get stuck in a corner all day, arguing because the husband refuses to ask for directions.

On occasion we see what we refer to as the under motivated and over inebriated swimmer floating around in endless circles. These are the people that have been at the parks for about 3 days and can't take it any more. When they discover that there is a bar at the pool, it's game over for them at the parks. You can always tell these people by their soggy bright red color and unattractive, newly acquired tan lines. If they should happen to hop in a pool tube and decide that the lazy river is a great place for a nap you will see them the next day with Zinc oxide generously slathered on their nose and a bill from the local Urgent Care center (OUT of network no less!! :sad2:)

Next we have what I like to call "Child on the lam". This is a child who is supposed to be out of the pool and getting ready to hit the road somewhere else. Their parents told them to be out of the pool 30 minutes ago but they think it's a better idea to hide and make their parents find them so they can stay in the pool for as long as humanly possible. The lazy river is an excellent hiding place with it's shady bridge and lack of direct sight lines. Parents of these children often make the rookie mistake of lurking by the slide to catch the child on the lam, but the kids are too smart for this and choose the Lazy river where they can go around in circles avoiding the prying eyes of Mom or Dad.

So you see the time it takes really depends on who is going around the Lazy River and what their agenda is. It's not that big in size but it's got a lot of character(s).

This was posted on the resorts forum:

I just booked 4 nights at Yact Club in June with the 30% rate on a standard room. I asked for ground floor close to lobby. Can anyone give me some tips about the YC rooms? We ususally stay at WL have gotten great rooms either woods view or courtyard view when asking for a ground floor room and this is our first trip to YC and not familiar with the room layouts. Where are the better standard rooms? Any advise would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Erin- I have only stayed at the BC, so I can't really help you will the views or layout of the rooms there.

I'll post your question over on the BC/YC FAQ thread. You can click on the link in my signature. There's a lot of great information about the resort on the first page of the thread, and maybe someone who has stayed at the YC will be able to answer your question.

We stayed YC club level too after comparing water view. Our first room was awful. It was above a kitchen vent. So every time we went out on the balcony you could smell foods cooking, YUCK. They changed our room the next day. this was during a slow time so I dont know what their normal policy is.We loved YC CL. Wish we could afford it every time we go.

Hi guys!! Just thought I would finally introduce myself. I am going to be staying with my DH and DD at the BCV for the first time this coming December. We ended up renting points from a DVC owner. During one of our '09 trips, we had dinner at Cape May. We walked around the BW hotels and I knew I just had to stay there in the future. As I live in S FL, I know the weather can be "iffy" in Dec, but I am hoping it will be warm enough to enjoy SAB. What an amazing pool area. So excited.

Thanks for this great thread. Lots of helpful info here!! :thumbsup2

Our meals if we make it to them all (I have been known to call while there and cancel all reservations so that we can go with the flow more:rolleyes1) are

Garden Grill Dinner for Nate's Bday (never been there)
Captains Grille for breakfast (never been)
Sci Fi (have never tried this place)
Yachtsman Steakhouse for our Anniversary Dinner Nate at the Sandcastle Club (both new to us)
Liberty Tavern for lunch on our MK day (new too)
Kona Cafe for dinner (have been here before and loved it)
Cape May Cafe Dinner (new as well)
Cape May breakfast (again new as well)

Looks like a great list.

We haven't been to all the places, but we love Sci-Fi and Liberty Tree.

The food at Sci-Fi is just average but the atmosphere is so great, so it is a must do for us.

Liberty Tree was a first for us on our last trip and we liked it so much we went twice during our stay. Both meals were supper, so I'm not sure how the lunch menu compares but the supper was so good.

Have a great time!

For anyone who visits page 1 of this thread-

Do you get annoying loading issues? When I am trying to scroll down to the Be Our Guest list, it takes a long time to get to the bottom of the page, I think because there are so many pictures.

Even when I bring the cursor all the way to the bottom, it goes back to the middle.

I've had this problem too - I think it is because of all the great pictures.

Been there every day, first thing I do in the morning at the office. Still waiting for some of that magical pixie dust to be thrown my way. Can't complain though. Over the last four decades we've won two trips for stays at the World. Did one at the Poly, the other at CR. BC/YC hadn't been built then. Oh what memories.

How exciting that you already won two trips! I enter every day too. It would be great if someone here won. :)

Welcome to all the new 'posters', the lurkers coming out of the closet (Fantasy or otherwise) and the beasts among us!!:cheer2: :dance3: party: :dancer:

I especially love the name Tofubeast! My imagination is running wild (again!) trying to figure out how one can be beastly with Tofu... Do you chase your children around the house with it demanding they treat it like a healthy snack or are you engaged in stop motion animation using tofu shaped Godzillas as the main monster in your movie?

Perhaps you left some tofu in the fridge and forgot about it, only to have it evolve into some new life form?

We here in Marlton are 'currently' brining cucumbers for the science fair, only to electrocute them and see how different salts affect the insidious glow and to a lesser degree the ungodly stench that emanates from the dearly departed cuke. This is the perfect science project for a 13 year old boy! Strike that! That science project where Gary and Wyatt create a "virtual" and "perfect" woman on their home computer in the movie "Weird Science" is probably much better than a bunch of stinking pickles.

So TB, what's it gonna be? There's got to be a story behind that name!! popcorn::

Oh you gave me such a good chuckle right now. If only my name had so much meaning as you breathed into it! :rotfl:

1. I used to be a veggie. (Now I eat fish/seafood.)
2. It comes from a series of Far Side cartoons. Sometimes he used tofubeast, most often he used tofudebeest. Here's an example:

I love your son's cuke project. I have never heard of doing such a thing. Electrocuted pickles! :scared1:

Thanks for the warm and humorous welcome! :thumbsup2

Well...with a name like 'Beast' we better give you a warm welcome! We don't want to get on the beast's bad side you know... Tofu or not!

Have you considered an "upgrade" and going for Chocolate beast?

I love, Love, LOVE the far side. This is my favorite comic of Gary Larson's

tofubeast and rookie2- I was going to :welcome: you this morning, but MM already did so in a much more flamboyant fashion.

rookie2- will you be at the YC this year? Would you like to be added to our Be Our Guest list? What are your dates?

tofubeast- what are your dates in December?

Great comic!

Just caught up since I didn't really check in yesterday. Welcome to all the new folks.

Sad to hear that so many don't like Ohana since it's on our list for our Oct. trip. I thought, maybe we should change that one...but since I'm always suggesting the people try a place and form their own opinion, I think I'll just stick with it. (Or get it over with.) We crossed it off the list on our last trip because the "games" just didn't appeal to us.

You should definitely try it for yourself. I enjoyed the food there, but we didn't appreciate the experience because we were so tired that night. We do prefer the calm of Kona to the chaos of 'Ohana, but it wouldn't keep me away if the opportunity presented itself.

A mission, if you choose to accept it...

Anyone know how long the lazy river is? How long does it take to get to go around once, from beginning to end?

This is not crucial information, but if someone is going soon and thinks to time it out, please report back.

Thanks!

Dee

I have the same thing happen with the first page. But it doesn't stop me from going there! I know now that almost any question I have will have a picture or answer there so don't remove any of the wonderful pictures. I even printed out the pictures of the map and the secret walkway to take with us on Saturday so we don't get lost.:thumbsup2

If we have nice weather and do the lazy river we will time it for you and report back after our trip.;)

Thank you. I figured that the meal at Sci Fi will not be anything to write home about but Nathan has wanted to eat there everytime we have gone past. I figured we can give it a try this time. Plus, it will be nice to know that we have a place to eat there. We have had the most problems at DHS trying to find a place without a line and we always go in the slow season. Finding a table to eat at has always been worse.

Liberty Tree has more to the menu for lunch. Salads, sandwiches and the Pilgrim's feast as well. I figured lunch may be a better fit for us if we decide to go light that day. If not we can still get the pot roast or the Pilgrim's feast. I have heard great reviews on their lunch so maybe give it a try next trip as well as the dinner.

We cancelled our reservation last trip as well. We went to the Poly that same night and it was packed with a line outside. We were glad that we had cancelled at the time because we were running on sensory overload by that time. I would stick with it if you have never tried it. I have so many new restaurants to try this trip that I don't mind letting go of one of the reservations. I am sure that my time has already been snatched up too. O'hana's is hard to get.

This whole trip is "all about the new". It will be the first time at a Deluxe resort. And every place we have on the list to eat is a place we haven't been. I'm wondering if we should shoot for Ohana for lunch instead of dinner or maybe a later dinner time - would that mean less kids so less chaos.

For my fellow Patriots fans...last night we got to hang out with the Lamar Hunt Trophy. This is the actual one that they had on the field last week, which has not been engraved. And in an hour, I'm heading back over to the stadium for the team send-off rally. I'll have those photos too.

I believe that they only have breakfast with Character's and then dinner. I don't think they have lunch. I also think they have kids all the time. It is very popular with families. The later dinner may have less kids but may cause a longer wait to get in. You could get a drink while waiting though in the lounge that is nearby.

Great lineup rusty. Have done them all except Yachtsman and we have it planned as our 'date night' meal in June. We don't do Sci-Fi every trip but we love it!

Let's just hope the lady that runs this thing don't stick all her pic's on here. Could take days to load! ;)

My advice would be the page 1 advice on checkin. Check in at the hotel (not online), go up and see your view and decide. Is Garden View CL available? It is a great compromise and not much more ($) in most cases.
