Understanding that ther are rules about tipping/gifts, we were wondering what people have given to YC/BC staff who've gone above and beyond. Do you take something special that represens your home town? Or something else?

In my opinion, the BC rooms are not far from anything no matter where you are. I compare it to the other resorts. If you are in any of the "out" buildings at the GF, the walk to the buses, boats, and monorail are much further than any room at the BC could be. Same with any of the moderates. It's one building at the BC. I've walked from the far end (by 3501) to the other far side (by room 3727) rekeying every lock in the building on all five floors and it hasn't taken me all that long. My goodness, compare our little building and the walk from 3501 to 3727 to some of the buildings at the Polynesian or even the wing of the Contemporary ... NO COMPARISON. And don't get me started about the moderates. You could walk for 15 minutes and maybe finally get to your room. From the lobby to 1501 (the room all the way at the end) might take me 3 minutes if I'm not hurrying.

I'm so glad Teena mentioned this - I agree. I've stayed at all three categories of resorts, BC is by far the most compact and manageable, in my opinion. "Far" at BC is "short" at most of the other resorts we've stayed in.

For example, my parents are joining us for the first three days of our February trip, and we briefly considered requesting rooms close together. We decided not to link our reservations or make that request because everything seems close to us at BC - so no matter where our rooms are located, we'll be relatively close. (The other reason is that we didn't want to make more than one request on our reservation, and we requested a full balcony. The full balcony - if we get it - is really nice for us at the end of the day when our three boys are sleeping!)

this is one reason I love the BC!!! We have stayed at the GF and walked an eternity to get to the bus/monorail areas...and the same at the Poly...it's really a lot closer to the IG than what you think it is....

Time keeps rolling along and the list keeps getting longer. Any one else want to add their name to the roll-call?

It sounds like the BC has very reasonable walking distances from one end to the other end of the resort. But what about YC? I have heard some talk about people having really long walks to their rooms, especially if they are trying to get to BC Marketplace for food. What room request should I make if I want to be closer to BC? Would "close to Beach Club" suffice as a room request?

Thanks!
Pam :)

Valets, bellmen and housekeepers are allowed to accept cash tips as well as servers and bartenders of course. Others, including front desk, concierge, dispatchers, bus drivers, pretty much anybody other than valets, bellmen and housekeepers, are allowed to accept gifts up to a value of $75. Guests bring CMs lots of things including gifts from their home town (like maple syrup from Vermont, local candy, etc.). Gift cards are also allowed to be given and I've seen gift cards from every place you can imagine including Hess gas, Disney gift cards, gift cards for Red Lobster and other chain restaurants, Walmart gift cards, etc.

The YC is almost identical to the BC as far as size and location to buses, etc. Major difference is that it's farther away from Epcot but it's closer to the boat launch to Hollywood Studios. If you are going over to the Marketplace (at the BC) from the YC and you want the shortest walk, I'd ask for a room close to the lobby. But as I stated before, it's not that large of a building.

Thank you so much, Teena! I will request a room close to the lobby (I wasn't sure where the lobby was located within the actual building). So many people talk about their long walks to their rooms at YC, they kind of had me worried :confused3

I have been reading this thread since we booked our trip a few weeks ago and I certainly appreciate the wealth of knowledge you have shared on here, Teena!

Hopefully DD12 and I will get the chance to meet you when we are there:yay:

Thanks again!

What I'm trying to say is I wouldn't really spend any time worrying about the room location because of distances to Epcot and the buses. Chances are you won't get exactly where you want anyway if it is during a crowded time of the year so why worry about it. The walk from Spaceship Earth to MouseGears is longer than the walk from 3727 to 3501. The walk from my favorite building at the GF (Conch Key) to the main building at the Grand is much further than from any room in the BC to the lobby.

You should keep your requests to a MINIMUM! The more you request, the less likely you will get what you want. Decide what is more important to you and request that. If it's a full balcony with a view of a courtyard, just say "full balcony, courtyard view please". If you start in on locations too, you're making the room assignor's job pretty much impossible and you will probably end up with nothing that you asked for because they won't know which request to go for if you have too many.

Most of the rooms at the BC facing the Epcot area are woods view (like 2512, 2514, etc.). Most of them have standing balconies. Only a few in that row of rooms have full balconies. The rooms are facing Epcot but all you will see are woods.

So word your request carefully and try to keep it to one or two things only. You will have a much better chance of getting a room that you are satisfied with.

If a nice view is really really important, then you really should consider upgrading to a waterview!

Thank you for the reassurance :thumbsup2 If you have never been to the resort - it can be difficult to tell. But obviously - since I knew I could walk all the way from our room at the BW to Epcot in about 5 minutes.....

What happens is that you get all the major elements of your trip planned - and then with time on your hands start thinking (over-thinking) about the nit-picky details

I do have to say - I did find the layout of the BW very annoying for some reason. It seemed like we had to travel down some very long hallways to get places. I think we were in an area mostly reserved for conference attendees since we were with a conference.

We have stayed several times at the farthest end of the arm of YC facing Dlphin acorss the woods. It is the farthest from the lobby and about a 2-3 min walk.

honestly, I think many of these stories of long, long walks are very exagerated. I can't imagine how they walk all day at the parks and can't do a few minutes walk in a hotel corridor.

I may be wrong, but I think this reclassification of rooms- and the designation of buildings at POR as preffered - are a step towards eliminating these long, detailed room reuqests from guests.

No more booking standard view and requesting gazebo, epcot woods, etc.

I have seen quite a few people create scenes at the desk demanding particular rooms/views often above and beyond the view they booked too.

If Disney were smart - outside of specific needs - lower floor or near lobby for mobility issues, daybed for parties of 5, etc. they would stop paying any attention to room requests and you get the room you get. Unless there is an issue with room - something broken, etc. no changing.

I do not see anyone agonize over room views and requests at any hotel or resort like they do a Disney.

I honestly agree with everything you are saying. I think the reclassification starting in January will eliminate most of the room requests. You will now get what you booked, pure and simple. The only thing I would imagine we'll see at the BC is a request for a full balcony. And the whole thing with "rooms ready" (trying to get everybody that arrives in a ready room) means 90% of the time the room that is assigned to you and meets your requests ... if it's not ready when you get there, whether you like it or not, the rooms ready CM will move you into a room that is ready. Why? Because all the survey material and all the letters, etc. show that guests want their room ready when they get there, even if its 8 hours before the check-in time.

And honestly, how much time are you really in the room at WDW? Aren't you normally there just to change clothes, sleep, shower? I know young kids need naps but I find normally the parents nap too so who cares what the view is when you are sleeping? I admit there are guests that actually spend most of their time in the room or on the balcony reading and drinking and just relaxing. They are in the great minority though. You're at a resort with the best pool ever and you're at WDW ... why are you in the room looking at the view? And if you are, then you should book a view you will like, definitely not a standard view, if the view is really really important to you.

Hurry up January!

Hurry up January!

I totally agree with you both!!!
and the surveys!!
the most important thing to me is getting my room ASAP when I get there!!
everything else is just a perk!!!
I will have 5 in our party!!! so I definitely need to have a daybed!!! but thats it, and a fridge (for milk bottles) but that comes standard!!

so I should be good!!!

can't wait!!!!

PS
I asked this before.....
does BC have bed rails, this is not a MOST, but if they do have it I would request bc it would be handy,
thanks!!!

Yes, they have bed rails. Just tell them when you check-in that you need them and they will have them sent to your room. Also, if the refrigerator in the room isn't sufficient for your needs, just call housekeeping and tell them you need an additional one sent to your room.

If there are five listed on your reservation, you'll get a daybed. Just double check at check-in before you go up to the room. Once in a while mistakes happen, but people with five on their reservations get daybeds. If for some crazy reason no room with a daybed is available (for whatever reason ... like a whole wing of rooms developes a leak or something), they will put you in a room with two queens and send up a rollaway.

Thanks so much Teena!!! I can see you are the Gem of this Board!!!
I will double check at check in that we have the daybed!! I was just worried bc I wasnt sure if my little one counted in the count of 5!!! and he wont sleep in a pack and play!!! so we need the extra bed for sure!!!
I think the fridge that we have in the room will be fine!!! just need it for Milk, and maybe some drinks!!!
will buy milk at hotel!!!
since its really all we need thought it would be a waste to have it deliveried!!! really was undecided so I just scrapped this idea!!!

I know it will all be great!! can't wait!!! thanks for all your help!!!

PS:
is there any chance our room would be ready when we check in about 10:30 am ish??????

Totally depends on how crowded we are. If we carried a lot of clean rooms from the day before, then yes. If we are almost full and have lots of check-outs the day you arrive, probably not. If the check-outs are real early check-outs and not all 11 AM check-outs, then possibly.

Thanks so much....I have never been to the resort and just wasn't sure. 2-3 minutes is nothing. This is my first time staying deluxe and just the idea of interior corridors will be a treat for me!

Thanks again!

You are going to love, love, love it. I walk in the BC and take in everything. The greeters act like their welcoming you back home. The flower arrangements, furnishings etc are fantastic. I even remember how it smells!!I pinch myself and say I'm really here. That may sound overly dramatic but that's the way the BC makes me feel. Have a great time.:goodvibes

Whew! Finally caught up reading the whole thread :)

Now I have just one more question -or two....;)

Does the BC Marketplace have similar baked goods to the BW Bakery? Or is it a much smaller selection?

Does anyone happen to know when the BW Bakery opens? (sorry - I know it is a question about another resort :rolleyes1) I remember that the coffee there was pretty good - is it any different than the Nescafe coffee that is available at the BC?

If no one here is familiar with it - I'll ask "outside".

Hello everyone! just wanted to post some pics of our stay last month at the YC. cant wait to start planning the next trip.
We were in room 4150. This location was great too. we had stayed previously in 5154. Very clean with a better view we though as you could see more of the lake and boardwalk this time.
