Can you still use the pool/SAB on check out day? Until when? I was thinking we'll hang out and swim for awhile before heading over to OKW on our BCV check out day.

I believe you are a guest of the Beach Club until mid-night of your checkout day. It's kinda like being Cinderella. If you try to use the pool one minute after midnight, your coach turns back into a pumpkin.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Welcome back Teena!

I've had bronichitis all week too. I think I would have felt a whole lot better if I was on the Castaway Cay instead of being sick here in NJ!

Not you too Robyn! Hope you are starting to feel better. How do you like the cold weather we are starting to have here?!?!? Makes me wish for those August temps at WDW (and boy was it hot!).

Kerry

We will be at BC in August. I'm scared of the heat and crowds, but figure with SAB, we will spend a lot of time at the resort in the afternoon. How is it in the heat of the summer?

Any suggestions?

I never thought we would go in August but our last two trips were in August...we love 'value season' rates. The end of August is the best due to lower crowds. We did that back in 2005. This past August we were there Aug 6-15. It was extremely hot and humid (hotter than in 2005) but it seemed that they had really hot/humid weather there from May or so on...so you really never know. Just go knowing that you'll be sweating by 7am...haha...

However the good part is to take the time and enjoy SAB (great pool!) and/or take a little rest in the afternoon. Get to the parks early (going in and out of A/C helps), take a break back at the resort or have a nice lunch in A/C (I would not recommend going to the park from morning to night without a break!). The parks are open late that time of year too. So as long as you know what to expect and are prepared...you'll have a great time!

We always go in the summer and LOVE IT!

Usually we go in July but last year our trip got postponed for a few weeks after dd broke her leg. Really didn't notice any difference between July and August. Of course last summer was hot, hot, hot everywhere!

LovingtheLodge had it exactly right. Take advantage of afternoons by SAB and take a little nap. We get to the parks at rope drop, leave around lunchtime and spend lots of time at SAB. We go back to the parks after dinner to watch the parades/fireworks etc. Get a water mister fan and drinks lots of water. We've gone in January/February and October but still love the summer months at Disney the most!

Yes we were fine for Thanksgiving and Black Friday then all of a sudden, DH, DD and I all got hit for a loop! Of course of all weeks it was the week I run the Santa's Secret Workshop at our school so I didn't even get to just stay in bed and weather it. I've been pumped up on medicine and can't wait to just relax this weekend. Of course ds has two basketball games so I don't know how much relaxing we'll do.

Boy am I missing the hot, summer days at BC. I'm also missing that BC lounge . . .

First, I have to mention that Dee (natebenma), Robyn (Disneymomx7), MickeyT and many others were really helpful to us in planning for the summer heat. Since childhood, my WDW trips have always been between December and March. But we bought APs in March of this year, and with all the great deals, we decided to add a 3-night trip last summer. We were so happy with our decision!

We told our three boys that it was going to be super hot, and that we were going to plan that trip differently. Instead of going all day (which they like to do in the cooler months), we had the following plan.

1) We made at least two ADRs per day, and we didn't use the dining plan. We knew for certain that we would have a place to sit and eat inside and in the air conditioning. We didn't order big meals each time - lots of appetizers instead of entrees, or salads and sandwiches. We really wanted to avoid eating outside or worse, standing in line in the heat!

2) We bought one standard Disney water bottle/mister fan and it was a good purchase. We didn't need one for each of us - sharing was fine.

3) We usually get up early for rope drop and go all day in the parks in the cooler weather. But in the summer, we not only got up early, but we were sure to be at the EMH morning park by 7:30am each day for an 8am opening. We had lunch ADRs for 11:30 and then we would leave around 1pm. We'd swim (SAB was great for that!) and rest in the afternoon. As for the water temps in the pool, I know some would prefer it to be cooler, but I get cold very easily, so it was really a perfect temperature for me. At night, we'd hop to another park in the evening. World Showcase, for example, was great at night. Not so much in the afternoon!

4) We considered the heat when packing. That sounds obvious, but I was really careful to pack the lightest shorts and t-shirts for the boys, and I wore sundresses the entire time. I met another mom wearing an Athleta sundress similar to mine at the bus stop one day, and we were sharing how we ordered the same dress in four different colors for our trips and we were so happy we did that!

The rest of the strategies are the same ones we use all the time, with fastpass, etc. But in the summer it was even more important to have a plan, and we always knew exactly where we were headed next when we left an air conditioned spot, so that we didn't extra spend time walking around in the heat. Our touring plan was more compact with less criss-crossing of the parks and more stops in the shops.

So the summer trip was different, but great. We really loved the afternoon breaks and the swim time. When we go between December and March, the weather is sometimes warm enough for the boys to swim in the evenings after we return from the parks, but not for me! So in the summer, it was so hot that I spent lots of time in the pool with them and we had a great time. We'll miss that part during our upcoming January and February trips!

Hope this helps! :wizard:

Live from the YC! DH and I checked in yesterday. Got a great king room on the 3rd floor with a view of the lake. Yes, it's cold, but we are having a great time. Oh, and we picked up our DIS button, thanks Teena and everyone who made that possible.

Fantastic! I hope to see you on Sunday or Monday over at the Beach lobby.

LOL! My OKW villa better be ready before midnight! And all day in the pool, I may turn into a prune some time before that pumpkin appears. :rotfl2:

Great tip. I think we will still go with the DDP for character meals/buffets (we have one under 3 so he can eat for free, plus ODD will be nearly 10 and will appreciate not having to eat off the kids menu all the time), but will book a 2nd ADR for a light meal OOP. It'll be cheaper than going Deluxe which I WAS considering for the sole purpose of A/C.

We went last year in August and today booked 10 days at BCV for this August:banana:

We found that hitting the parks when they open (leave by 12-1:00) spend the afternoon at the pool and then go back out at night for dinner not only beat the heat but was very relaxing. So much so our boys looked forward to making sure we were back in time for the afternoon pool events (especially volleyball!)

WE loved our first August trip and cant wait for this years! we also found the crowds to be on the lighter side.

It has been quite hot in October the past 2 years. We bring the breathable shirts like many wear when exercising. And we plan each day according to the amount of sunshine: don't want to wear the white shirt with the large amount of printing on the back when it is sunny- that printing heats up quickly. And dark colored shirts stay home.

I agree with you: midnight of checkout day.

We were at BCV in late August and had a great trip! We have 3 little ones - 2, 4, and 6. We tended to eat breakfast in the room (we used garden grocer) and then a sit-down lunch and dinner. We took an afternoon break most days. There were some afternoon thunderstorms which prevented us from swimming every day but we watched movies in the room or just chilled out.

Crowds were very, very low. We walked on to many popular rides. 2 days were brutally hot but we took frequent breaks and took advantage of air conditioning whenever possible. We're definitely planning a return trip next August!!!

Hi Teena!

Don't know if you remember Dh and I - we're pin traders and spoke to you about the last pin event at Epcot. And you helped us so much with our ressies/questions at the BC.

We'll be coming up to WDW for our annual Christmas visit next week (12/11 - 12/14). We're staying at POP this time but will definitely be stopping by the BC lobby to see the docorations on our way to/from Epcot/HS. Hope to see you then. :goodvibes

Yes, I remember you. I don't have my schedule for the 12th and 13th yet. I'll get it Wednesday. If I am working those two days, I start at 9:30 AM.

The carousel this year is so amazing!!! I'm sure you'll enjoy seeing it!

Teena, I hope I will have the opportunity to meet you and thank you personally for all of the wonderful information that helped us set up our trip. We have been planning for a year and we can't waitl. We will be checking into the BCV on the 10th and staying for a week. Hope to see you. :santa:

I hope I'm working that Sunday and Monday. I'd love to meet you. You are going to be here at such a magical time. It's been cold though so make sure you have coats, long pants, sweatshirts, etc. Of course by next week we could be in the high 70's again but in December you have to be prepared for all types of weather. Bob and I were Christmas shopping in Epcot and Downtown Disney yesterday. It was so nice and cool walking around in long jeans and a sweatshirt and not sweating!!!! I love this weather. However, early in the morning and when the sun goes down, it's COLD!!!

Well, the day finally got here. We're packed and ready to leave for the airport. Thanks to everyone for all the info on this thread. Hope everybody going this week has a great trip. Bye!
