2010 Podcast Cruise - Help us decide

Which is more important to you for the 2010 Podcast Cruise?

  • Price (keep price as low as possible)

  • Kids are out of school (price doesn't matter)

  • Doesn't matter what date you pick - I will go on either!!

I know we are in the minority but we were prefer to go on another podcast cruise when the kids ARE in school. Considering it is going to be another 4 night cruise we probably would spend time at walt disney world before or after the cruise, I know my husband will not even consider going to walt disney world when the kids are out of school, so the date of the cruise would be the biggest factor for us.

No kids but I think the needs of parents with kids in school should be considered.

As far as DW and I, cost is a priority but before that it is hurricane season. She will not step foot on the water (ship) during hurricane season. :scared1:

Here is an idea and I'm not trying to be anti Disney.

Have you considered making the 2nd podcast cruise Universal/RCCL? Does it have to be DCL? It may not be an option given the timing but it would certainly help in the $cost$ area.

Please don't kill me for the idea. :duck:

I wouldn't mind a universal/rccl either :thumbsup2 probably be cheaper too??

We have definately considered RCCL for the next one but decided to stick with DCL. We could get RCCL for less than DCL fore sure but we decided on DCL for several reasons.....like the rebooking incentive will make it very attractive for those going on the 5/10 cruise, etc.

We are looking into doing something different with RCCL.

Again, if that $65 million comes on the skies the limit :rotfl:

RCCL! boo!!! :headache: :rotfl: sorry just not a fan, took them once and sadly had a horrid time. It was many years ago, but was enough to sour me on them big time. Besides what would Mickey Mouse think!

I would vote for price, also. My dd will be in 5th grade next year, and, as long as her grades are okay, I don't have a problem pulling her out of school.

But then I was thinking about "Jersey Week". It's at the tail end of hurricane season, in the beginning of November, so that may not be as big of a concern. Also, there are many kids that are out of school sometime around then (maybe Columbus Day?). That MAY be an option to look at, but I'm not sure. I think our dd has a couple of days off around that time, but it really doesn't matter to us. It was just a thought I had.:upsidedow

Once again I'm sorry for being selfish but I voted for price, DH and I do not have children yet so the $$$ factor is the biggest for us.

I'm gonna go with price. I don't think either my husband or daughter will join me on the cruise so I don't have to worry about pulling her out of school. I would just need to find a roomie.

I'm not sure I'll be able to go on the second podcast cruise, since I'm shelling out a pretty penny for this one, but if I do go, it would be because of the price.

I would vote for hurricane season September or October. The ship can avoid any storms and who knows, the cruise could be extended by a couple of days. And the price is cheaper too.

And it gives me time to save up after my April 2010 BCV trip.

I think I'm with Lisa on this one. I need to vote for the lowest price when the kids are out of school. I had the thought of RCCL too, but you already addressed that one. Although, RCCL coupled with Harry Potter at Universal - that would be cool! :thumbsup2

Anyhow, I voted for when the kids are out of school, but with the caveat that price DOES matter. OK, ok, I'm an academic, I know it.

I voted lowest cost, mostly because I would pair it with a Disney Trip. Now if it were over xmas I would pick kids out of school since I'll be there at Xmas time anyway!

We're talking at the very least a 50% increase in price.

For example - a category 11 stateroom for 2 people on a 'cheaper' cruise would be about $1000 - for the summer cruises it would be at least $1500..on up. The spread gets larger for highter category staterooms.

Also, for 2010 Disney Cruise Line is not selling category 12 staterooms - so the cheapest would be a cat 11.

I don't think I will be able to afford it anyway, being a student and all. If you have it in June, I could come for the before and after parties!

I just wanted to post and say I feel for you having to make this decision. I am having a hard time trying to decided what to vote for on the poll.:rotfl:

I don't know that I would have a problem taking my Kindergartener out of school....the problem is that DW is a teacher and I can't take HER out of school. :rotfl:

The prices weren't too bad for the last week of August but I know this date won't be popular as many school districts have already started classes and those that havn't will probably start the following week.

I just hope that if the majority vote is for when the kids are out of school that the folks who vote for this put there money where their vote is and book the cruise. It would stink if they voted for kids not in school and then decided that the cruise was too expensive. The cost of a 4 night cruise during summer of 2010 for a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children) is currently pricing at $4447.68 for a cat 11 smaller inside and $5787.68 for a cat 6 balcony. If this is what works best for your family than yes, place your vote accordingly. But be aware that this is about how much the cruise, without airlfare, will cost.

Edited to add that these prices are for dates in July.

I agree with everything you said.
I voted for price. I will end up spending a few days before and after the cruise at WDW.

Sorry everyone who teaches... But money is so tight if we are going to make this cruise it has to be cheap

Well, chances of being able to go are slim, but if we did - sorry, love ya, but you are staying at home. (That's me talking to my kids)
