Which is more important to you for the 2010 Podcast Cruise?

  • Price (keep price as low as possible)

  • Kids are out of school (price doesn't matter)

  • Doesn't matter what date you pick - I will go on either!!

Besides being extremely thrifty (or cheap, if you're gonna be mean), the time when school is out for summer is the busiest time of year at work for me. The first cruise in May is even teetering on the edge of too close to the busy season to go on vacation.

Since kids are not an issue for me, price matters.

While we have more disposable income now that the kids are gone we still watch the bottom line.

Make my dollar go farther, please try to keep the costs down.

Just remember hurricane season starts June 1 and goes to November 30th
even during the months that hurricanes don't happen nasty weather can impact a cruise.

However, the cruise lines will always consider safety first :worship:and will change their itinerary and go to another port if need be or go out of the area completely for your cruising enjoyment :thumbsup2

I hear you Todd. Timing for me revolves around what month during the quarter it is on my work calendar. Month 1 is generally wide open. November, February, May, August. Early May is our favorite time. :) You start talking month 3 and that is generally right out.

I know in our case, it was just a matter of the time of year for taking kids out of school for the 2009 cruise. We are willing to take them out, but May is hard with the end of year close and lots of special things going on. Especially this year, we have an 8th grader and so we've got class trip, graduation, etc.

So I voted price, because we are willing to take the kids out of school. May just didn't work out.

I wouldn't mind a universal/rccl either :thumbsup2 probably be cheaper too??
Agreed!

I would probably be willing to do either but since price and "will do either so long as I am on the podcast cruise" is not an option, I went with price. The world will still turn even if DD15 misses a week of school. If you are in doubt, we'll check back after this first podcast cruise :cutie:

Speaking as a teacher, I voted for "kids out of school" Although, unless it's mid-June to late July, the crew won't be able to make everyone happy there.
Spring breaks are all at different times of the spring, start and end dates vary greatly all over the country.

Another perspective: I'd be ok with a school-year cruise with Sept, Oct, Nov, and Feb being the best months. I can finagle the time off then but time off in May? Forget it!

I voted for price, mostly because it's more than likely I'd be travelling solo, and the single supplement....I'd have to bite the bullet. I don't know who'd share the double occupancy rate with me.

The only other thing that kept me on the first cruise was Mother's Day. I'd be the worst child in the world if I went on a cruise instead of being with Mom. She wouldn't have wanted to go on the cruise.

It would have been the perfect week for me to go otherwise, because my work schedule is pretty much vacation prohibitive. I'm restricted to middle weeks of any month. Since there are only the two of us in my dept, I can't take off the last week of any month into the first 5-7 work days of the new month. Those are our busiest times and would put a burden on the other person to handle solo.

I'm crossing my fingers that they pick a "mid-month" cruise date. If not, I guess I'm not going...again.

I would have voted for doesn't matter, however my accountant (dh) would have something to say about that! So I went with price as well.

Must say the RCCL thing has peaked my interest!

Yeah, in all honesty we were hoping for a 7 night, as well.
It'll be interesting to see how the rates turn out, as I think we will be rebooking when we are on the podcast cruise either way.

just chiming in
We will probably do a RCL cruise/Universal trip next time
We are HP fans and want to do that next.
I know...I said it on a Disney site...sorry

Michelle

i just voted, but i want to change...
i voted for any time, but truth is, price is very important..

i just hope i'll really be able to join you next time...
missing out this time is killing me :sad1:

I wouldn't mind a 7 day cruise either, but price will be a big factor for me! I will start saving from the moment it is announced. I have a short trip to WDW planned for October, but I already have that paid for, except for food and souveniers. That way, I can save save save til then and since I already lost my job, I won't have to worry about that befalling me again.

DH and I were saying this as well, a 7 night cruise would have been great!!

Those that can go when the kids are in school can also go when the kids are not in school. So PLEASE, when the kids are out of school!!!!!! As for the price, I think the demand for this cruise will be price inelastic. We will find a way to go, regardless of the price. LOL.

Speaking as an educator and Disney enthusiast , it is just killing me that I can't go on this trip so I would love July but i understand others needs. <sigh> ah well.......
