2010 news from the Magic

I booked 6 weeks before Med Cruise for parent's in law!! They got very good prices for Cat 12.

I am thinking maybe Magic might stay in Europe in 2010 after Batlic?? Why Disney Cruise's office based in London??

New ship will be ready by 2011 and 2012?? Am I correct?

I wonder if new ship go out by 2010 to USA?

Maybe I am wrong??

Scottishwee35

There is an office in London because of the two new ships being built in Europe. The office opened around the same time as the new ships announcement. Maybe they are using as a place to interview and hire the new staff to fill in the spots they will need for the new ships

On another note I pulled up the schedule for the Copenhagen port again this morning and lo and behold the Magic is no longer listed. Feels like deja vu from when the Magic was found on one of the Med cruise port websites and then magically disappeared

The actual DCL office in Hammersmith London has been there for a long time and WDW used it as well, when the new ships were announced it was enhanced with more staff, I feel that was a bit of coincidence, but said at the time it meant that DCL will come back to Europe.

DCL opened a 'west coast operations' department and appointed a head CEO there just before the first Repos and West coast cruises were announced.

On the second part no surprises on the website update and deletion of the Magic in 2006 for 2007 at Villafrance the Magic appeared and people reported it here and then it disappeared again.

Means DCL didn't want us to know as of yet.

Ah, yes. But we've got the screenshots, courtesy of you Andrew!

Looks like they did it again...

So it appears that Copenhagen website has deleted all references to the Magic in 2010.

The owner of the TA I use wrote to me this morning and said he didn't see any listing for the Magic.

Good thing the agent that works for him printed it out before it was taken off the website.

With so many requests for Hawaii and Alaska the Baltic is "way out of left field". If have never a conversation with any DCL cruiser that mentioned they wanted to go to Baltic.

We have no interest Norway, Finland or Russia - Really? - Not getting it - so we have made alternative plans.

Well Cruisers in feedback have I understand asked mainly for Europe, the Med was so successful in 2007, Alaska and Hawaii.

However DCL has to apply for permits for Alaska and isn't guaranteed in getting them, it is trying, but other cruise lines such as Princess have been there many years and are in pole position.

On Hawaii whilst a number of cruisers request it they then 'bulk' at the idea of so many sea days in a row, the Transatlantic in 2007 didn't sell well, as there was six sea days back to back. People like ports and DCL would have to put in a foreign port outside USA on the route, so there are many problems with that,

With four ships in the future Hawaii might well happen with a cruise across to Japan or Hong Kong but i cannot see it for a few years yet.

Baltic will sell out quickly at far higher costs than the 7 night cruises in the Caribbean. It really hasnt been a secret, that DCL will go to the Baltic I have been saying that for months, and Captain Tom said Northern Europe as far back as summer 2007.

The Med would have been cool and I agree the ports are great, but I can't get my family to fly from NY to Barcelona, just too long a flight.

Although I would love to go to Hawaii I just don't see that happening until the children are a little older.

I think the target market for the Baltic is cleary not Americans and I can't blame DCL for that since they need to expand their market.

Oh well...there is always 2011 and the new ship. ;)

My first 2 cruises were in the Caribbean, and then I went on a Baltic cruise. After that I wondered how I could ever go on another Caribbean cruise, after going somewhere...important! To me - a beach is a beach is a beach. Europe is full of history, art, culture.

I would agree that DCL are looking to expand there client base and there will be a higher percentage of European cruisers on these Baltic cruises, but they will also appeal to many USA Cruisers, many joined the Med trips in 2007, and also when I travel in Europe and see cruise ships in the Med and in Europe, they always have a high percentage of customers from USA.

In view of the dates I have seen and some rumors of Bermuda, I think there is still the odd surprise to come out either side of the main event Baltic cruises.

I totally agree...and sorry to say we have no interest in history, art, or culture.

We like warm sunny days near a beach or pool, but to each their own. :thumbsup2

I hope you are right, we would do the Bermuda ports, but not if it was part of a transatlantic.

. . . which is why I find a destination cruise tricky. I felt that on the Med trip, having only 1 day in port just wasn't nearly enough time. I think if you really want to experience a new culture, get immersed in it, see the art, etc., you have MUCH more time to do that on a land trip. On a cruise, with only 1 day in port, you have to zip in and zip out quickly - only seeing the highlights.

For us, we like the Dis cruise for the cruise experience - doesn't have to be important - its the fun, lazy days at the pool, the shows, the service, yada yada yada. If its history, art, culture that I want, I don't do a cruise.

Just a different way of looking at things I guess.

I have to agree that the Baltic is not that appealing to me. I was so excited to hear the new itineraries like Hawaii/Alaska/Europe but Baltic was not really what I was thinking for Europe. Don't get me wrong, if someone wanted to pay my way, I would be on that ship. I even like the idea of TA repo-what an adventure. But in my case I have little kids, one has never cruised before, so that long of a cruise is daunting. Also airfare is big bad and ugly.

I get vacation once or twice a year and I live in a place that is cold-a lot of cold-it is cold right now.:headache: I really want it to be warm and bright on my vacation. I would rather have 100 degrees and humidity than 50 and overcast.

This is just my opinion and I'm sure the ports will be beautiful and interesting but I think I will save my money on this one.

I would love that, if they did a transatlantic and bermuda or somewhere near there was a port. I'd love to do a transatlantic cruise and go to bermuda. A little history and a little beach is great for me :lmao:

I agree with you it's fun, lazy days at pools and everything elses you leasted that I like on a cruise also, but I did actually learn a little bit about a different place when I got off the boat on the cruise. Although I did love the lazy days at the pool more:goodvibes

I think a little of both is good too, but the children would be bored to tears.

We were on the EB repo and did the walking historical tour of Acapulco (in the rain). I can say without a doubt it was far down on the list of "fun" things that we did during the 15 day cruise and I won't make that mistake again.

OTOH...the Puerto Vallarta Paradise Resort Beach Break was big fun swimming in the resort pool and the Pacific Ocean

Interesting thought but why would Oslo also be noted on the Copenhagen site as being one of the ports the Magic is coming from or going to?

Any cruise line that put in a request for the permit for 2010-2019 will not know until mid to end of 2009 if it was approved.

DCL could also just be announcing Jan-May in October for the 2010 dates and announce the rest of the year later as they have done at times in the past. I hope they do announce the whole year together but that is a possibility

Permitees should be notified a little sooner than that. "Dave Nemeth, chief of concessions management for Glacier Bay National Park, said the National Park Service hopes to allocate the permits by year’s end." It is the gov't however, so you could be right! :rotfl2:

They have done different times before but 8am Eastern, 21st is the best guess but it has also been 1pm, Eastern to tie in with Disneyland CL, If there is a press event it would open up just after that. The Med and first Panamas had a press event.

I do not think they would be ready for sea trials then. And if so why go to Oslo? A ship left that DCL shipyard this week to go into service in November and have sea trials.

Celebrity Solstice didn't quite leave the Meyer Werft yard yet. It 'undocked' on August 10. It will begin sea trials after it's passage of the River Ems scheduled for Sept. 29 on it's way to a November delivery date.

I only bring this up to note that the ship is being berthed at the pier for a considerable amount of time after undocking from the big shed. This ship is pretty comparable, in size, to the new Disney ships. There is quite a bit of work left to be done because if it's size (They even had to wait to put the funnels on after it was out of the shed).

I'm still trying to figure out how Meyer Werft is delivering 3 ships in 2011 & 2012 where they have only been delivering 2 cruise ships per year for the previous 5+ years. They did just announce an expansion to their Dock II (Hall 6). That is available for use in late 2008 or early 2009. If they were able to build the new ships in two pieces like they did the first ships (approx 120m in Dock I and 190m in Dock II), perhaps they could achieve an early delivery. But, it would REALLY be pushing it to get the ship in Fla by summer 2010. Construction would have to begin VERY soon. You can check my very long winded post in the !!!!!!!!!!!!!! DCL Fleet Expansion in 2011 & 2012 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thread for more (mostly useless) information.

And likely a penalty to be paid to Disney for violating a confidentiality agreement. Great sleuthing, though :thumbsup2

Alaska they are trying, but posters here gave some impression it would be sooner rather than later, Cruises, take years of planning and applications, DCL is trying to secure Alaska slots for the future.

Hawaii, when most cruisers understand it would involve many days at sea all in a row to and from Hawaii they are often put off. USA rules mean cruise ships must call at least once in a Non USA port that makes a cruise around or to/from Hawaii for DCL registered in the Bahamas difficult.
