2010 news from the Magic

On another note I pulled up the schedule for the Copenhagen port again this morning and lo and behold the Magic is no longer listed. Feels like deja vu from when the Magic was found on one of the Med cruise port websites and then magically disappeared
hee hee hee! Tom is probably saying, "Drat (or other 4 letter word) they've done it again!"

Permitees should be notified a little sooner than that. "Dave Nemeth, chief of concessions management for Glacier Bay National Park, said the National Park Service hopes to allocate the permits by year’s end." It is the gov't however, so you could be right! :rotfl2:

Celebrity Solstice didn't quite leave the Meyer Werft yard yet. It 'undocked' on August 10. It will begin sea trials after it's passage of the River Ems scheduled for Sept. 29 on it's way to a November delivery date.
I only bring this up to note that the ship is being berthed at the pier for a considerable amount of time after undocking from the big shed. This ship is pretty comparable, in size, to the new Disney ships. There is quite a bit of work left to be done because if it's size (They even had to wait to put the funnels on after it was out of the shed).

I'm still trying to figure out how Meyer Werft is delivering 3 ships in 2011 & 2012 where they have only been delivering 2 cruise ships per year for the previous 5+ years. They did just announce an expansion to their Dock II (Hall 6). That is available for use in late 2008 or early 2009. If they were able to build the new ships in two pieces like they did the first ships (approx 120m in Dock I and 190m in Dock II), perhaps they could achieve an early delivery. But, it would REALLY be pushing it to get the ship in Fla by summer 2010. Construction would have to begin VERY soon. You can check my very long winded post in the !!!!!!!!!!!!!! DCL Fleet Expansion in 2011 & 2012 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thread for more (mostly useless) information.

And likely a penalty to be paid to Disney for violating a confidentiality agreement. Great sleuthing, though :thumbsup2

Thank you for the clarity you seem to be better informed than our british press, where I read about the Celebrity Solstice

Well he personally has been dropping big hints himself for years, he said 'northern Europe' in Summer 2007. What does he expect in this Internet age, someone will spot something if he tells us where to look.

. . . which is why I find a destination cruise tricky. I felt that on the Med trip, having only 1 day in port just wasn't nearly enough time. I think if you really want to experience a new culture, get immersed in it, see the art, etc., you have MUCH more time to do that on a land trip. On a cruise, with only 1 day in port, you have to zip in and zip out quickly - only seeing the highlights.

For us, we like the Dis cruise for the cruise experience - doesn't have to be important - its the fun, lazy days at the pool, the shows, the service, yada yada yada. If its history, art, culture that I want, I don't do a cruise.

Just a different way of looking at things I guess.

You are right - 1 day in a cruise port isn't enough time to see more than a few things, but it's a great way to get a taste of several different places. Port-intensive cruises also aren't restful vacations!

Land trips are great, and that's how we spent our 3-week family vacation in Europe in 2000: a week in London, 10 days in Germany, and 4 days in Paris. That was also before I had been on my first cruise, and now the idea of cruising to some of these places is very appealing.

I'm trying to decide how best to visit Europe in 2010. With the weak dollar - a European cruise can be a very good value. (Well - maybe not a Disney cruise!!)

A cruise gives you a 'taster' of places when I cruised to Barbados I liked it so much, I booked a two week holiday there, its a good introduction to places you might want to explore more, or decided actually I like the idea I was only there 5 hours and pleased I could move on!

Seriously? Castaway Cay, Bermuda, and then Europe? And no sitting in coach for 10 hours?! Sign me up. Plus, we live in the high desert where it's 100 degrees from May to October, so 50 degrees and humidity sounds like heaven. We loved Alaska this summer and it rained the whole time. It will be two years of torturous waiting. :boat:

You still get 10 hours in coach on the way home. ;)

What when you are told its Scarborough??:rotfl2:

But just think where you can get to from Scarborough.;) York, Whitby, and other places.

Now I would have loved DCL to be doing longer Caribbean cruises and visit Barbados in 2010.

My mistake, I meant 20 hours in coach trying to sleep with my knees in the upright and locked position.
Now, it will only be 10 hours, woohoo! :goodvibes

Having spent 2 weeks in a motorhome in the rain in scarborough this year to save up for next years crusie - I will be gutted if they announce scarborough on Oct 7th:scared1:

Well you know that I am 'never' wrong! He He, ( apart from that time you helped me with the Castaway Club Quiz!!!:worship:
