2010 news from the Magic

Isnt Cunard to New York?

With fuel costs and Castaway Cay I cannot see anythnig less, but they did arrive and depart Barcelona with an extra overnight stay in port in 2007,

Yes, Cunard is NY, but I was thinking DCL could do it in 8 days with a stop in Castaway Cay and one of the Canary Islands or Madeira before the UK. Not sure if that last part could be done in a day or not though, i'm not nautical.

Yeah, Estonia could be what gets cut. And the current Constellation itineraries are different. I was looking for cruises that used an Oslo/Copenhagen/Warnemunde route and found this older one from 2007.

It'll be interesting to see if they go with St. Petersburg and, if so, whether or not they'll make it two days. I hope they keep at least 3 sea days, maybe more. The Med was great, but it was very tiring.

We'll be at 63 nights in May '09. No cruises on the Wonder yet. We'll probably wait until she gets moved to a new location. Not interested in 3/4-night cruises or longer ones in hurricane season. We had a 7-night scheduled for December this year, but had to cancel it :(

I have understood for some time Russia is part of it, and that will be St Petersburg.

Our cat.2 was $14K, I think, for a 10-day Med. We didn't end up going so I don't have the paperwork to look up.

Not sure how a "Baltic" cruise will go over with the family... but I've had a fax request in for 2 1/2 years so if I get a call, we can decide then.

Thanks - that is a lot better price than what we were quoted for Cat. 1 for WB repo ($24k). That was 15 nights though, so longer, also for 6 people (I imagine the $14k was for 4). So maybe they are closer than on initial glance...

I think Russia might be a big hit for kids...such a unique stop. Lots to tell classmates and friends!

OK so I am excited that DCL is in Northern Europe but also about to cry too. DH teaches and in 2010 school ends on Thursday 22nd July - AFTER the last port date shown for Oslo...

I know he would say yes to a Baltic itinerary but I am not sure what else would be on offer - surely they wouldn't repo back to US as early as end of July??

Anyone got any ideas... Andrew you got any thoughts?

Yes this is my concern as well, they do seem to leave OSLO quickly well before the end of our school term and before our school holidays.

They well might be out of the Baltic by then.

I think, my guess is there is something else 'in-between' last time in 2007 it was

Transatlantic repo
10/11 Night Med
Then back Transatlantic repo.

I might be wrong but everything has been said in plural, special cruises, so I think

  • Transatlantic repo and / or via Bermuda or New York?
  • Special cruise Med>Southampton? Portugal? Madeira?
  • Baltic cruises.
  • Special cruise Southampton>Med Portugal? Madeira?
Transatlantic back.

Reasons:-

  • Again everythnig said has been plural, cruises
  • They usually leave and come back from PC first week May and back just before USA Labour day holiday.
  • There is fewer Oslo slots than can accomodate this schdule.
  • Oslo is further to go than the Med.
  • Cruisers can buy in bite size chuncks, and add on extra ports.
  • The transatlantics didnt sell well last time there was some discounting, so they need to 'beef' these up
.

So we might not get a Baltic at Summer holidays but a specail cruise to the Med?? I think they will return from Europe Mid August.

ok I did not know that school is late out that year. surely DCL wont come all the way over here and not accomodate our European holidays:confused:

I can't wait till Oct 7th so I know for sure

It's great that we'll know DCL's summer 2010 plans very soon. Unfortunately - other cruiselines won't release their Europe 2010 schedules for several months for comparison. I am excited about the prospects of a DCL Baltic cruise, and I'll probably book it (and subsequently cancel it) - as I always do! Just not sure I want to cruise in Europe with all those kids! :teeth:

I've planned to do a Baltic cruise in 2010 - and if I can do it w/ DCL all the better! I'll probably do the same as you - book it and then cancel it if I find something better.

Is it October 7th yet???

Only 1 month to go!

I know...I'll look at that port list and figure out where every OTHER cruise ship is going in 2010! :teeth:

We will book as well but since it will be such a port intensive cruise, I will also look at other cruiselines. We love the Magic but I can't see paying a premium if I'm going to be off of the ship on tours most of the time. So it will depend on the pricing as well. This cruise will be all about the ports!

Agree, in the Med the Magic was a 'base' not a destination.
Yeah, but then the issue will be: new itinerary or new ship?

Yes an option from most likely February 2011, one new ship maybe at PC, say doing the 7 night Caribbean cruises, the Wonder still doing its 3/4 nights, and the Magic off to LA Via Panama and San Francisco to Alaska, choices!

Txs for Sharing

Thanks for clarifying that. I was thinking This F***ing Sucks. :lmao:
Couldn't understand why you'd log on to say that.

Yeah, but then the issue will be: new itinerary or new ship?
yes, I thought this too. I'd love to do the WB-TA. We love sea days and wouldn't care if they offered cruises to nowhere. :cloud9: But doing a big cruise right before the new ships come out may be too much for us.
I don't need to be on the maiden voyage; I'd be just as happy to have them work all the kinks out first but I'm guessing the new ships will be big bucks.

Looking at the port of Copenhagen and checking itineraries for 2009 Europe cruises, the other port listed is the one visited BEFORE Copenhagen. So for DCL in 2010 - it will go to Oslo before Copenhagen. That makes sense, because our Baltic cruise on Jewel of the Seas started in Harwich, had a sea day, then went to Oslo and Copenhagen - no sea day in between.

Anyone know where the possible stops for a transatlantic cruise would be? Also what would be closest airport to oslo so I can start looking at plave ticket prices? How long of a flight is that and exactly where is Oslo located?

The closest airport to Oslo would be...Oslo! It's the capital of Norway. I doubt the cruise will start in Oslo, but in the UK.
