2010 Mom's Panel Results along with lists of Round 2 & 3 Participants

Hi Agnes!

I did say I liked "crazy sidewalk lights" :).

Wellll... that is sorta a name eh? :)

When I was a kid we had cats, dogs, horses, even some chickens at one time and as an adult we've had lots of cats throughout the years. Right now our feline residents are "Ralf", the biggest cat I have ever seen outside of a circus/zoo and "Kit-Kat" a little tortoise-shell female who never met a meal or snack she didn't like.

hehehehee... cats are good... When I was a kid, my friend had a certifiably insance 25 pound black Siamese!!! If you pointed a finger at it, it would go crazy and if you weren't quick, would plant a claw in it real fast!

:)

Of course there is always my final fall back position: they spray something in the air that makes it all magic!

:)

Hehehe... We always say they must pump 'happy gas' into the place. You can't help but get a big sheepish grin on your face when you walk into the MK!

As for 'Where is Disneyland?", I have had to correct my Dh on more than one occasion when he refers to either Disney World or the Magic Kingdom as 'Disneyland'. Aye! Amatuers!

Gah!!! I was not checking in on this thread all weekend and a quick scan of it tells me I missed a lot!! LOL I love all the nicknames you proposed--very cute! We call them the twinkly lights, but all the names would fit. Some people just have to live a little, huh?! :)

I am thinking fo all of you and know you must have those butterflies flying around inside. I feel for ya!! Hoping you hang in OK till tomorrow and I can't wait to hear all the good news.

I went into the Disney Store the other day and was so happy to see everything. I told a CM that we were heading to Disney very soon (4 weeks from today!!!) and she was all excited. She asked me about the MVMCP I am attending and what it's like--LOL!!!!

Good luck all!!

These are the types of posts that assure me that Disney has picked an incredible group of people to take to the finals. The very positive attitude and grace exemplified here, Kaylene, is awesome. If you go all the way this year, I don't think anyone would doubt that you have earned that position. I'm really proud to know you.

What an incredibly sweet response, thank you. :lovestruc I can only hope that I am given this amazing blessing and the chance of a lifetime. :cloud9:

We received phone calls today that told us "probably tomorrow, but maybe Wednesday". :thumbsup2

:grouphug: to all my fellow finalists as we struggle to keep our minds occupied over the next day(s). :)

Just wanted to let you guys know I am still here cheering you on. Have been reading all the fun questions of the day but haven't had much time to post myself. Wishing all of you good luck in getting that magical phone call tomorrow!:)

Not sure how many here actually follow my blog or anything, but I wanted to be sure you at least read today's entry, because it applies to everyone here. Just wanted to extend my thanks for all the recent support I've received and writing my 'thank you letter' was really all I could do. :lovestruc

I've Got a Friend in You

:grouphug:

Also continued luck to everyone as we await our phone calls! pixiedust:

QOTD:

How do you explain the difference between other amusement parks and Disney World.

I tell people that Disney is not just an amusement park but an experience. A total sensory experience of sight, sound, taste, touch and emotion. Any company can buy a swath of land, stick some rides on it, add some gift shops, charge you an arm & a leg for a ticket and call it a theme park. Disney, on the other hand, has created an total imersive experience. From the moment you walk into the park you are met with wonderful smells. Colorful surroundings. Immaculate and creative gardens. Impeccably clean and well maintained grounds. As you ineract with the Cast Members, you find that they are friendly, helpful and geniunely love what they do. As you enter the queue for an attraction, you see, hear and even smell the elaborate details that have been taken not just for the ride itself, but for your experience while waiting in line, the pre-story to the attraction itself. As you start to pay more attention to your surroundings, you begin to notice that every ride has it's own soundtrack of music and narrative. Every ride and attraction is themed to perfection. Then there is the daily and nighlty entertainment. As you watch any of the parades or fireworks shows, you stand amazed at the quality and again, the total experience of the production. The details of everything around you start to come into clear foucs and as an adult you start wondering 'how did they do that?" or "Wow, they really thought that one through". Then, when you see the characters and interact with them, you are suddenly taken back to your own childhood and those wonderful blissful emotions of 'believing' (as in waiting for Santa Claus) suddenly fill your soul. That's the difference between Disney World and other amusement parks.

Sometimes, my internet searches have taken me to the DISBoards. I have been to Disney a bunch; I couldn't count the times. But still, I don’t know everything. I wanted to say, sitting here on my desk are my little figures of Mickey and Minnie in their astronaut costumes...the original "theme" of characters at EPCOT Center (Yes, they had them then). Figment and Dreamfinder came later, when the Imagination Pavilion opened. Anyway - lately I keep looking at this particular thread. I remember when there was just the Magic Kingdom (which WAS Walt Disney World, so there goes the confusion with the name that some people have. In fact I remember when even the cast members didn’t know if the “Magic Kingdom” was a park or the two-parks, with “Walt Disney World” being what we think of as “MK” today.) EPCOT Center was just that (spelled that way). I was there on opening day of MGM-Studios, which was a mess because it was so crowded, so I waited a week or two to visit Animal Kingdom after grand opening day. I like to think I know the parks. My kids know where all of the bathrooms are and could assist most adults who are lost, even though they are under ten. I know there are a BUNCH of people like me. I am not special. I just love Disney. I also don't want to be mean. Everyone on these boards appear to go out of their way to be "nice". And anything slightly mean might be perceived as villianous, or worse, UnDisney. But sorry - I don't think Walt got so far by letting people walk over him. I'm sure as a businessman, he made some tough decisions and some people got a little miffed. Saying that, when I read that someone in the third round (I've never made to the second in three years), has gone just a handful of times, and only in the past two years, I'm confused. I can't be alone thinking this – although no one is saying it out loud. Yes, the rules state one visit in the past year. But Disney is also touting these panelists. I'm sure most of you consider yourselves experts, yet maybe didn't get past the first round (like me). I think, just maybe, I might know a bit more than someone who has been to Disney a few times, and maybe paid for a few back stage tours or something. I think "Crocs on the ground" should count for something, more than studying books! I do not doubt “passion” expressed for Disney. Because, heck, anyone that goes falls in love with the parks (or they have a heart of stone). But, I’m really questioning things when someone who has visited a handful of times, is seriously being considered –or worse chosen – as a panelist. Yes, you can fall in love on sight. You can be best friends with someone you just met. But to truly know someone (or, parks in this case), you need to spend quality time learning all the ins and outs of what makes them tick. I am NOT doubting someone's love of Disney - I am doubting how much expertise can be gained in such a short time. As someone who has stayed at 15 of the resorts, eaten at probably, most of the restaurants/counter service, I'm just confused.

Hey Guys! Sorry to be MIA yesterday and today - Its been incredibly busy at work, and yesterday I worked off my nerves by cleaning, cooking, and exercising... Trying to keep busy here, and my mind off things! Yea, right, who am I kidding with that!! :lmao:

I'm definitely holding out hope that tomorrow is the big reveal day!! This will be me all day tomorrow :surfweb: Even when I'm in meetings... hey, I may even have to bring a cell phone to yoga. I bet that's frowned upon! :lmao:

I'll try to get back to see the QOTD later tonight, after kiddos are off to bed.

Hope everyone is holding up ok, and is as excited as I am!

Sleepy123,

I'm sorry you feel so hurt and upset by the process. None of really know what the Mom's Panel judges are looking for.

The passion each of us shares for Disney is the common thread, but we're all so different, some of us have been fortunate enough to have experience the magic for many, many years. Others may have found it more recently. Some of us have 2 kids, some 5, some may have more! Others have had to deal with being a single parent or a vegetarian... The great thing about the Mom's panel isn't any one individual. Its the whole group - bringing together all of those varied perspectives and experiences - all tied together with a love for all things Disney. As a collective group, they are able to give personalized advice drawing on many people's many experiences...

I'm not sure if my thoughts help or not.. but, I truly am sorry you are upset. :grouphug:

Ahhh...but that's the thing. I'm not hurt or upset. I'm confused. Yes, the panel is made up of all types. That's not the confusing part. The part that confuses me is the lack of experience. A weak link in a chain? Well - you know what that means.

I don't normally blog or tweet or anything else. It is no biggie that I didn't make it. I might enter but heck, I'm figuring there's always someone out there who knows a lot more than me. Next year, I'll try again. But, I'm in it for the free trip! Yep - I'd love to share my knowledge. I do that all the time with friends and family (and their friends and families). But the idea of getting a "bonus" - a paid trip, well that can't be beat. That's why people play the lottery. They hope to win and figure they never really will deep down inside!

So, I'm not hurt. I'm not upset. Please don't misunderstand. I'm thinking Disney might make a huge mistake here (from a marketing standpoint) because from what I can see (and I've only been watching this thread for a couple of days just since I saw that one post), this frankly puts the whole idea of finding the best of the best in question. They advertise this everywhere. "These "Moms" have been selected to be panelists because they have demonstrated an excellent knowledge of Walt Disney World® Resort. Being familiar with the Parks, Resort hotels, dining and entertainment, shopping, and recreational activities, they can offer the help and tips you need to make your vacation planning a snap."

And, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person out there thinking this.

...But, I’m really questioning things when someone who has visited a handful of times, is seriously being considered –or worse chosen – as a panelist. Yes, you can fall in love on sight. You can be best friends with someone you just met. But to truly know someone (or, parks in this case), you need to spend quality time learning all the ins and outs of what makes them tick. Hey there. It's a coincidence that you brought this topic up because today I was *just* going over this in my head. I did not come to the same conclusions as you did, that someone with years and years of experience should be on the panel, in fact, I had a lightbulb moment as to exactly why Disney might want someone withOUT years of visits under their belt.

This goes back to my comment about a guest asking me where the Castle was, and how as cast members we were trained to treat every guest asking you a question as if it was their first visit to the parks (ie, rolling your eyes and pointing to my left would NOT have been the appropriate response).

Just as you yourself stated above, "Yes, you can fall in love on site. Yes, you can be best friends with someone you just met". Exactly my point. And when you fall in love, when you meet that person who fulfills your dreams and exceeds your expectations, what do you want to do? Shout it from the rooftops! You want to stop everyone you know and say, "you HAVE to meet my new friend!" How is that person's excitement any less valid than someone who comes back from visit number 125 and says, "Oh, you HAVE to see this new attraction!" If anything, the person with less experience is seeing things through new eyes, eager to learn as much as possible and share those discoveries with others. What a GREAT choice that would be to have on the Disney Moms Panel!

The hard part for Disney isn't finding passionate OR knowledgeable people. It's finding whatever it is they are looking for - and quite frankly, we simply do not know what that is. As I've said before, if we did know, this process would be completely different because everyone's application would probably be almost identical. What Disney is looking for (I think) is a whole set of factors that may vary for each application they read. That is why they look for 10 or more people, rather than 1 - each person brings something different to the table. What would be the point of the panel if each person had exactly the same qualifications? Disney is looking for the people *behind* the applications and whatever that ever-changing magical equation is, that's what stands out in some way.

Anyway, that's just how I see it, obviously I have no more knowledge of how Disney picks who moves on than anyone else, but speaking as someone that *does* have a lot of the same expertise you described, I think it'd be a wonderful idea to have someone with new eyes and fresh excitement for a place we ALL love, on a panel where they can share their experiences with others. I hope you are able to see things in a different way, and see how it might not be a bad thing at all. :grouphug:
