2010 Mom's Panel Results along with lists of Round 2 & 3 Participants

Oh NO!!! Not cake again!!! Last night I was so hungry reading about chocolate and cake here...Please my diet won't be able to stand it!!

Since the process is (to put it lightly) somewhat less than transparent, you have created an unobtainable standard. Short of obtaining internal memos or the like from Disney, no one can prove that the process is unfair.

Hi SAHDad,

Ah, how about innocent until proven guilty? :)

What do you have that makes you say the process is less than transparent? We were asked to write 100 words on three questions and those answers from up to 20,000 people were read and on some basis, "three brief essays - about his or her family, why he or she is a great Walt Disney World vacation planner and his or her favorite Disney vacationing tip", up to 200 were chosen to move on to Round 2. I have seen nothing to indicate that anything other than that was done.

As to an unobtainable standard, maybe so; but right now, things are being moved into the realm of being factual without any standard other than repetition, even from previous years.

But - do you really think that there will ever be a time when Disney Dads make up more than 1 slot per year on the panel?

I have no idea, but I have read good points both ways on that. My personal feeling is that it is unlikely; and I was a bit bothered the first year that it was not made clear that us mere males could even apply, though a careful reading of the rules didn't rule it out. I was shocked when I read that first year that there was a Dad on the panel! Arg!!! Why wasn't I told!!! I coulda binna contenda!

Likewise, we don't know whether or not there are hidden standards.

So why assume that there are? Or assume 'facts' with no evidence? Do you not realize how many thousands of fully qualified people applied?

If current panelists (who are active on Disboards, facebook, etc) are reading most of the applications, then there is going to be a natural tendency for them to select people with whom they may feel a natural affinity. (This is not meant to impugn them - people have a natural bias toward the comfortable and familiar - if you're on the Disboards, but not Intercot or MouseJunkies, then someone who is an active poster on Disboards is more attractive than someone who is equally as active on Intercot or MouseJunkies.)

That could be true, but as pointed out in another response, the current panelists had nothing to do with it. So, another assumption being presented as fact and opps! Nothing there. This is what I am speaking of on this matter.

They may have wanted more people this year who use facebook or blog, and while they did not set a de facto quota, screeners were told to look for applicants with those experiences.

They were??? Where did you get that??? They did specifically ask about blogging in question three so what's the problem? And that idea that that was a deciding factor has been shot down by several of the 2nd Rounders who responded recently regarding that.

I don't know of anyone who is saying that the Round 2 people aren't qualified. There is just a feeling that some buzzwords are worth more than others, and yes, not knowing what to try and shoehorn into 100 words in order to get noticed is annoying. Maybe I should have mentioned my blogging, instead of my Small World dance. :confused3

There's that 'buzzwords' idea, again a 'fact' picked out of previous years' discussions of the panel hopefuls and not based on any evidence. See how it becomes 'fact'? Next year everyone will 'know' that it was because people twittered; and networked with somebody on the panel; and used the right buzzwords, because someone will pick up on those posts on this thread and not read the whole thread (how could anyone??? Egads!) and not see that these were simply suppositions that were unsupported by any facts- and actually contradicted by several 2nd Rounders.

Is there a vid of this 'Small World dance'? URL? :)

I have no problem with expressing disappointment. I am disappointed- much more so than I expected to be. My only issue is with granting and presenting supposition as 'fact' (News background); and with the posts that have suggested Laura and Leanna of acting with less than honor in their job: a reputation is easily destroyed and very near impossible to retrieve once done.

That applies equally to the whole process.

I had my own theory- post count- first broken by the low posts count of many, and then the massive post count of another!

I think it simply comes down to the fact that there are just too many knowledgeable and skilled communicators who love Disney! I think everyone who didn't make round two should be required to go to Universal and Sea World from now on to thin out the field a bit for next year!

:)

musicbuff, your point is well taken but this is not the place for it. Maybe start your own thread about the process and why you think it's unfair. The intention of this thread is to cheer on the R2 guys and gals and help ease their wait time.

Now on with the show....:goodvibes

Just wondering if anyone knows or could shed light on the final round telephone interview? What sort of questions are asked? Is it a one on one interview or a bunch of people talking to you?

I would never be so smug to assume I'm headed to round 3, but just in case, I'd love to hear about it! It helps cut down on my anxiety and keepsmy mind off this health news.

I have no answer to your question - but wanted to send hugs your way as you "play" the waiting game.

Hang in there!

Thank you!! I am a bit more nervous than I thought I would be about this--I guess because I never thought I'd make it past Round 1. Either way it goes is OK with me :)

Thanks to all of you for the support and kind words. It really means a lot to have so many good people cheering us on!

And about that cake someone mentioned......:goodvibes

SAHDad, I just want to say again. That I think some of your assumptions are off. As DisneyJo said your chances as a man maybe be higher. Think about the fact that I bet more than 80% of those who applied may have been women. Who may have seen it on Disney.com and not on a discussion board. There are men who applied, but I am sure that the woman outnumbered the men. That means we have more competition.

I do not for an instant doubt that the majority of the applicants are women. But, consider this - historically, the dads are all trying for 1 slot in 12, or 1 in 16 (or possibly 1 in 10 this year). If dads are less than 8.5%, 6.25% or 10% (respectively), then yes, dads have an easier time. If dads are a greater percentage of the applicant pool, then no, they don't. At the end of the day, it's a guess. You certainly have more competition, but you are trying for a greater number of slots.

And sure, I might be cynical - it's called the moms panel, after all, and there are plenty of "mommy and me" classes, playgroups, etc that really do not allow dads. Some days, I just get tired of banging my head against a wall, and telling people "No, I am not Mr. Mom, nor am I babysitting my children" hasn't been helping.

Jud, I LOVE that idea! Everybody stay OUT OF DISNEY for one year, so us try-and-try-againers can make AT LEAST R2 next year!

IN TOTAL AGREEMENT. Please either use the other MP thread or a new one to discuss the, "Whys?" and "What-are-they-looking-for?" questions. This thread is aptly named for a reason.

Thanks Donna! :thumbsup2

Ok , lets just make believe here. You and I both know that no way did more men apply than women. Let's just say that there were 20K applicants and 10% were men. So about 2K. Let's say that Disney has decided to open 2 slots to the men. That is a 2K to 1 shot. That is huge odds. Now the the women are even worse they have an 18K other contenders to 8 slots that is a 2.25K to 1 shot. I am not convinced there were 2K men as most would not enter something called the Moms Panel just because the name would put them off before they red into it.

I am sorry people are insensitive to your situation, and it is a shame that people just do not get it. I for one think very highly of any parent who takes care of their child. Parenting is NOT something that should just be a female role, and you are a trendsetter. Believe it or not many women have felt very much like you when their being SAHM is underestimated and negated as not a job. I wish I was able to have been in your shoes as I never was able to stay home with any of my kids for financial reasons.

Look, I am no one, but take that energy and turn it into something good. Do not let this be one more thing to feel frustrated about. If this is something you really want then get into it and work on it for next year. I know I will if I get knocked out. Good luck and don't feel this is something else you have been rejected on. You have a wonderful child, believe me it will be fulfilling at the end. One of mine is 18 now and in college and it seems like yesterday I was a new parent scared out of my wits. Good luck and do not give up...

Oh and thank goodness no more cake talk :)

Doh! Don't have any in the house. Oh well - I have to return a package of diapers tomorrow (still fuzzy from WDW trip, and didn't check to make sure that the box I grabbed was shelved in the right place, so I got the wrong size :headache:), so I'll see what the store has. Most likely a vanilla, though I could see a coffee-flavored ice cream, brownie and hot fudge concoction being pretty tasty.

It just means I have to run extra tomorrow, right? :thumbsup2

LOL...you run...I'll say I did....LOL Me and running to do NOT go together! Though walking is good...running means face flat on the floor all the time for me :)

BTW SAHDad...

"Current running streak - 413 days in a row. Yearly mileage to date: 1224. Last update: 10/06/09."

Ahhh... what is that? Are you talking about running as in like high speed jogging? or like as opposed to walking?

:)
