2010 Mom's Panel Results along with lists of Round 2 & 3 Participants

I hope you all managed to get your applications in in time :)

Here's hoping some of you make it to the final telephone round, that's the bit I found the scariest especially as there was a slight time delay as I'm in England I didn't know when to talk and when to listen :rotfl:

Jo... apparently, you did!

:)

WOW! There certainly have been many emotions floating around on here. Hopefully things are settling down for those of you who didn't make it to round 2. I told myself that it was a contest and that the chances of moving forward were slight at best. But because it was a Disney contest, it ramped up the stakes and that's why so many wanted to move on. For those of you who moved on, I wish you the best and truly hope that magic follows you to the next round. Stay positive and be encouraged. :wizard:

OT...
Just wanted to let you know that my 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with H1N1 two days ago. I'm going nuts waiting for her to turn the corner and be fever free. We took her to an urgent care because she has asthma and they refused to give her Tamiflu. The doctor said that she seems healthy enough to fight it on her own. She is holding her own, but it is really making me anxious. If I could ask that you send thoughts her way, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.:lovestruc

Hey Stitchnut!

Nice to see you again! Best wishes to you and your DD8!

:)

I had a similar problem, I typed my essays and when I went to attach my picture it wiped out my answers! So then I added the picture first, then re-typed the answers. I did get a message & email that it was successfully submitted.

Ahhhhhhh!!!! In IE8, right? I had that problem the other day when sending an email! Maybe it was in Chrome? Just reformatted and now running XP SP3, and figured while I was clean I would try Chrome. Can't really remember, but I do remember having written a long mail, then going to attach and it wiping out my writing!!!! So, I would say it is the browser not the D site!

Wish I could remember if it was Chrome or IE8...

:)

I'm still trying to add everyone into my Facebook and Twitter accounts. Unfortunately I can only do a few a day so bear with me.

I'm so glad I have so many "new friends"

So Michelle, I tell you to plan that Segway tour as soon as possible. :yay: I also have heard that the one at Fort Wilderness is great too but I would save that one for your second Segway tour!

I'm a huge fan of the Segway Tours, too. I will be trying the new Nature-Inspired Design Tour in December and I can't wait. :cool1:

Is anyone here married to a non-Disney freak? I didn't tell my wife that I'd entered till I got to round #2 and when I did, she said, "what is the point of it?" :rotfl2:

She doesn't mind Disney, but says it definitely isn't the happiest place on Earth for her and doesn't really get what all the hype is about.:scared1:

Sorry we are all freaks here! :lmao:

We have to restrain each other from booking that next vacation. We are going again in December and are already looking to book our next trips. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the segway feedback Kim! We are lucky my parents always go with us, so we have a babysitter if we want to do something that DD is too young for.

The other thing I have planned for DH is taking DD to the ranch for a pony ride on the day we arrive. She is totally into horses right now and still young enough for a pony ride. He loves to take her to the horse farm up the street from our houe but normally she doesn't get to ride!

Congrats on expecting a grandbaby Kim! My father's favorite place is the fountain in Epcot (he could sit there for hours) and I will never forget seeing him hold my DD when she was only 9 weeks old in front of it for the first time. You could totally tell he was in his 'happy place'! :cloud9:

I just wanted to say to the R2's...GOOD LUCK!

I just wanted to say to the SOUR GRAPES, it's a contest and in contests everyone can't win. This year wasn't your year and maybe next year will be, but again might not be. What are we teaching our children when we as adults can't handle rejection. I know it hard, but we can't teach our children that when we loose something, it's acceptable to throw an adult tantrum and pick apart the process or say it was fixed or tainted. In life some win and some loose.

This was my second year applying and didn't make it past round 1 both times. I consider my family as a "Disney Family" and I think I know a ton about Disney but in reality (no personal attacks here) there is more to life then Disney. I love the Mouse and we try to go every year but I have a very rewarding life outside the World.

Just my two cents and again good luck everyone, I will be here to cheer you on to the next round!

I think the the "Sour Grapes" seem most concerned that it is a fair contest. Is it based on your essays entirely? Or are there demographics that will always count you out of the running? Just let me know so that I can avoid the disappointment. It's Disney's contest, make the rules as specific as you really want.......just let me know. Don't make it out to seem one thing when it really is another.

I didn't even share with my kids that I was entering, enough disappointment for one, I really doubt that most of the Moms and Dads on this forum are teaching their children to throw a fit adult style. People deal with disappointment differently and I for one am happy to let them get it out of their system here! PM me if you need to rant! It's been less than a week and it was a huge disappointment, because everyone one of us here on the DIS thought we would at least get to round 2. Real life intruded onto our Disney dreams!

Just more 2 cents.

That's my feelings. Look, I'm a stay-at-home dad - I know my odds of getting onto something named "The Moms Panel" range from slim to none. But I do want the contest to give me a fair chance, not leave me feeling that I should establish a blog in my wife's name, and enter under her name next year, just to give me some chance.

For the record, I don't think anyone should be called "Sour Grapes" in such a derogatory way. Nor should assumptions about temper tantrums be made.

I think just about everyone who has raised questions about the process has been very thoughtful to continue to say with just about every post that they wish the R2 members good luck. I don't think anyone has specifically said to any R2 member that they think they aren't deserving of their place.

Just wondering if anyone knows or could shed light on the final round telephone interview? What sort of questions are asked? Is it a one on one interview or a bunch of people talking to you?

I would never be so smug to assume I'm headed to round 3, but just in case, I'd love to hear about it! It helps cut down on my anxiety and keepsmy mind off this health news.

My counter-point would be what actual evidence do you have other than some speculative meanderings written by other 201'ers that that had anything to do with it? You had a chance: I had a chance; up to 19,800 others had a chance. None of them knew any more than any other. To impugn the process without event he slightest hint of evidence is of no benefit to anyone. Several 2nd Rounders have already made it clear that the alleged 'hidden standards' were not factors, not that there was ever any real evidence that there was.

Disappointment is one thing: throwing stones is another. Anyone wants to present some actual evidence of something out of line, please do so. But repeating speculative concepts as if they are facts is what is is.

Since the process is (to put it lightly) somewhat less than transparent, you have created an unobtainable standard. Short of obtaining internal memos or the like from Disney, no one can prove that the process is unfair. But - do you really think that there will ever be a time when Disney Dads make up more than 1 slot per year on the panel?

(If nothing else, I have history here - the Moms Panel has yet to have more than one dad on it at a time. Granted, there haven't been many panels yet, but I do not imagine even for a second that, of the new crop of 10, more than one will be a dad. I know my odds are slim, thankyouverymuch. But sometimes it feels more like impossible than merely slim.)

Likewise, we don't know whether or not there are hidden standards. If current panelists (who are active on Disboards, facebook, etc) are reading most of the applications, then there is going to be a natural tendency for them to select people with whom they may feel a natural affinity. (This is not meant to impugn them - people have a natural bias toward the comfortable and familiar - if you're on the Disboards, but not Intercot or MouseJunkies, then someone who is an active poster on Disboards is more attractive than someone who is equally as active on Intercot or MouseJunkies.) They may have wanted more people this year who use facebook or blog, and while they did not set a de facto quota, screeners were told to look for applicants with those experiences.

I don't know of anyone who is saying that the Round 2 people aren't qualified. There is just a feeling that some buzzwords are worth more than others, and yes, not knowing what to try and shoehorn into 100 words in order to get noticed is annoying. Maybe I should have mentioned my blogging, instead of my Small World dance. :confused3

Hi, as a current panellist I just wanted to let you know that we don't have any input at all or get to see any of the applications for the new panellists. I think we'd all like too as we're, OK it may only be me, are nosey :rotfl2: But honestly we don't have any input at all. As for thinking you have less of a chance I think, and it's just my opinion not fact, that you probably have a greater chance of getting through. Like me (from the UK) we're in the minority, there will be far less UK and Dad applicants than US Moms and even if we only make up 1 new member of the panel, with less of us applying it must give us a bigger chance of getting selected. So please don't think you'll never get chosen, try again next year and keep your fingers crossed :thumbsup2

Ah, see - I was thinking that the current panelists had some say in the matter. I still believe that the Round 2 (in addition to being qualified) also fit certain criteria (which, frankly, Disney has every right to do), but that DIsney doesn't want (for example) UK residents to occupy 45 slots of the Round 2, when they will probably only have 1 slot in the panel - so they start ignoring UK applications after they have 10 or 20 that will be advancing to round 2.

I could be wrong, and sure, fourth time could be the charm. And I would love to be wrong, and see three dads on the panel next year.

Anyway, we are getting well off-topic, when this thread really should be about wishing all the round 2 people lots of pixie dust.

Stitchnut -- so sorry to hear about your daughter. My DS has reactive airway asthma. He has 2 episodes of high fever in the past month but the docs keep saying it's just viral -- not the flu. But, now he is coughing (with no fever) and he had to start breathing treatments... I just hope he doesn't come down with the flu now. Sending prayers and good thoughts your way!

Keeping busy by PLANNING my upcoming trip to FW. We're heading over on Nov 4th for DS 6th birthday and staying until Sunday!!
Plus, planning for a Clone Wars birthday party on the 31st for all his local friends.

On top of that, helping one of my friends plan a trip as well!!

Can't seem to get Disney off the brain!! I think is as it should be!!

OH- and there will be LOTS of cake eaten in the next couple of weeks!! AND ICE CREAM too if I don't make it to round 3!! :rotfl2:

What's everyone doing to pass the time???

Beckie - I have to say that I take great exception to the reference to "the SOUR GRAPES".

Perhaps you don't have any concerns with the application process this year. However, a number of us do. We are entitled to express our opinions, and I think we have done so in a respectful manner. Certainly until now, no one has engaged in any name calling.

I can assure you that I have not had any "temper tantrums" over the Panel selection process, and my concerns have nothing to do with my application being rejected. I've been down this road more than once ;) and had no problems or issues with the process in years 1 or 2.

What I do hope to teach my children as they get older, is to not be afraid to voice their opinions and to express their views, even when voicing opinions which are unpopular or when being chastised for doing so.

As previously mentioned, I have no problem if the Panel sees a value in promoting people with blogging, FB or twitter backgrounds. There are obvious advantages to that for Disney.

My problem with the process this year is with the errors which were made in the notification of successful Round 2 applicants.

What happened with Zanna is cause for significant concern. It shows that Disney did not exercise due diligence this year in ensuring that each and every person who was supposed to advance to Round 2 was properly notified. Fortunately for Zanna the error was picked up 2 days later, perhaps due to her online postings about her rejection email. But maybe others weren't as lucky.

For me, this casts some question on the legitimacy of the selection and/or notification process and, no matter how great my opinion of Leanne and Laura, it creates at least a perception of unfairness.

We all know this thread is read and watched by the Moms Panel Cast Members, and I truly hope that they hear these concerns and take steps to ensure that the errors and problems which occurred this year don't happen again.

That said, while there may have been a few errors in some applicants this year not being properly advised that they had advanced on to Round 2 (all of which may or may not have been corrected by now), it certainly seems like there is a great batch of Round 2 applicants this year to choose from, and I wish all the 2nd rounders the best of luck in advancing to round 3!:)

Stitchnut how is your DD doing today? Hope she is feeling a little more comfort. jaysbabe, I hope your DS is ok. My oldest DD18 was sent home from college because the school thought she had H1N1 we tested her and nothing. She did have a very nasty viral thing that really did her in. She does not have asthma, but it sounded like it and she said her chest hurt. Well, I can vouch for what she said because I have it now and it is down right nasty. Lots of fluids and rest for him.

SAHDad, I just want to say again. That I think some of your assumptions are off. As DisneyJo said your chances as a man maybe be higher. Think about the fact that I bet more than 80% of those who applied may have been women. Who may have seen it on Disney.com and not on a discussion board. There are men who applied, but I am sure that the woman outnumbered the men. That means we have more competition. I have over 21K posts here on the DIS, but if you want to go research it. Most of those posts came years ago when I was a moderator here. I have maybe 200 posts in the last 5 years. No one here but some old-timers know me at all. I love the DIS and use it often, but when I started there were less people and when someone asked a question not as many people jumped to answer it. I have a blog I put up for my family from when I went to the All-Star game at Yankees Stadium. Haven't updated in over a year and no posts on it for just as long. I am on Facebook, because I keep in touch with friends and family on there and I love playing Farmville and Mafia wars...yup, not Disney related. Oh, and BTW I still do not know who Leanne and Laura are. Have not friended them on FB and do not know what they actually have to do with this process. Maybe I am a fluke, but if I am then I made it through the first round on my merits...not because I tweeted (or whatever you call it) with anyone, or had Facebook with tons of Disney peope on it, or knew someone. Hopefully it was just me :) scary huh?

I live in Massachusetts and the only answer I think I had it easy on was the one about feeling comfortable using a computer and the internet, because I am a computer teacher.

I am honestly shocked to be moving on because I really can't think of what would have made me stand out at all. I sent in my answers to the second round and made the mistake of not sending a head shot but a family photo. I read the first page where it said photo and somehow missed the head shot one. I am going into this with the attitude that if it was meant to be it will happen. There are to many things in life that really are worth getting upset about. This one no matter how much we want it, is not something that we need to live and be happy. I may be sitting right next too you watching the finalist go on to the phone interview in a few weeks, and if that is the case I will be rooting for them, and standing behind our DIS MOM's!!!

What I do hope to teach my children as they get older, is to not be afraid to voice their opinions and to express their views, even when voicing opinions which are unpopular or when being chastised for doing so.

I do believe that that is something we are slowly losing in this country. Our right to voice our opinion even if it is unpopular, or to stand up for what we believe is right. Musicbuff I do so agree with you on this statement. I am not sure if you will ever get an answer to anything from Disney, but I hope you keep trying, you have spunk.

Ok, my dh's birthday cake is in the oven and the smell is just driving me crazy!! I love being in my pj's, listening to the rain, smelling cake in the oven! Crazy admission time--I bought 2 cake mixes in case something "happens" to this one--like, what if I didn't prep the pan well enough and part of it sticks...wouldn't that be a tragedy???? http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/rotfl.gif
