2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

Please note the following comments which are in Post #17 of the Everything About WDW Tickets sticky:

Please be aware that there are some self-imposed restrictions at some military locations and information sites. The information posted above are Disney's rules. And since tickets have to be activated at WDW by Disney Cast Members, these rules do apply.

For example, at some military locations they will only sell tickets once; rather than buying three tickets once time and three later. Also some military locations will sell six tickets to a spouse, but at WDW six tickets will be activated only if the service member is physically present.

My coworker, who Is a DOD civilian and hence not eligible said he purchased the salute tickets for his trip next week. What is going to happen when he goes to activate them? Will he just have to buy tix there on the spot? Will they at least credit for the salute price he already paid? Or do some ticket agents just turn a blind eye?

If he came to my window I would probably discuss it with a supervisor and the probable result is we would credit him with the amount Disney actually sold it for toward the purchase of a ticket for which he would be eligible to purchase. This amount may be less than what he paid.

Sorry but you are wrong on this. I have activated the tickets without everyone being there one every trip but the one 2 weeks ago. I actually had everyone there as we were going for MNSSHP and activated them then.

My mother-in-law went to two different ticket booths today and spoke to a supervisor. They would NOT activate the tickets without us being present to sign the backs of the tickets. So while you *may* be able to get away with activating without everyone being there, it is not a given. Depends on the CM. They gave her a definitive NO.

It would have made her life easier to do it today without us there.

Huh. That's weird. I have been able to activate tickets three times in the last year on three different visits without everyone being present.

They asked me for my drivers license when my DH activated our tickets last week.

I have a question. DSIL is active AF and is buying 6 tickets for our December trip - 2 for him and DW (my DD) and 4 for my other DD and her DH and 2 kids. DD and DSIL (military) is checking in 2 days before my other DD and family. I understand that only the active military member has to be there to activate from reading Cheshire Figment's post, but after reading some of these posts, it sounds like some CMs won't activate the tickets unless everyone is there. Cheshire Figment, is this true? If so, this won't work for them since my other DSIL can't get off from work until 2 days later after the military member gets there and activates the tickets.

Also DSIL (military member) and DD want to add on WPF&M to their tickets, but my other DD only wants the 4 day PH. They will purchase the tickets at the AF base where they are stationed. Does anyone know if they can buy 2 tickets with WPF&M and 4 tickets just PHs or do they all have to be the same?

TIA

#1- I think the "official" word is that all members of the party must be present, but truly it all depends on the CM you get. We have had CMs that have had to watch each person sign the back of the tickets and then we've had them just hand them to us without signing them. :confused3 Will your DSIL not be there while your other DD is there? It sounds like they are just arriving 2 days earlier, and they can be activated at different times.

#2- They can buy any combo of tickets they choose. We have purchased 4 WPM and 2 PH at the same time with now issues. I would just have them double and triple check everything while they are at the ITT/MWR office, since they are shipped to their house and not immediately available.

Yes, DSIL (military member) will be there when my other DD gets there, so he can activate the ticket then. I thought that all the tickets had to be activated at the same time. I'm glad to hear that they can get any combo of tickets they choose too. This is good news for them!

I didn't know they were shipped to their house. How long does that usually take? They are leaving on 12/13, so they need to get them soon if they ship them.

Our MWR says to allow 10-14 days, so they might want to do it soon. They can always get some from Shades of Green, if they don't have time.

Just talked to DD and she said her MWR says they need 3 days. She is going to go there today (if they're open) and order them. If they're not open today, she'll get them on Monday.

Thanks for all your help!

every MWR is different. I've gone to Ft. Jackson and gotten them on the spot, no mailing to the house.

They're at Tyndall AFB, so I hope the person she talked to is correct.

They probably are. I called Shaw AFB first, since I'm retired AF, then called Ft. Jackson when Shaw said they don't always keep them in stock and might have to mail them. Jackson always seems to keep them in stock for some reason.

Tell her that if Tyndall doesn't have them, she can go to the Navy base on Panama City Beach. They have them. My husband bought 2 there just a couple of weeks ago. They were $135 each (slight discount from the $138 face value).

I will definitely tell her this. Thanks for the tip!

Is it possible he is retired military and you don't know it? I just can't imagine them selling them without asking to see a military ID first!

I bet they already have them in stock, unless they are getting them from nearby, otherwise it'd probably take longer for them to receive them by mail. I bought ours at Ft Carson a couple of weeks ago (they had them in stock), but they had warned me back in September when I called them, that if they ran out, to allow at least two weeks to get the order back.
