2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

I bet they already have them in stock, unless they are getting them from nearby, otherwise it'd probably take longer for them to receive them by mail. I bought ours at Ft Carson a couple of weeks ago (they had them in stock), but they had warned me back in September when I called them, that if they ran out, to allow at least two weeks to get the order back.

I hope they have them in stock as they can't wait 2 weeks. Otherwise, they still have the option of going to the Navy base in Panama City Beach or Shades of Green if they don't have them.

Is it possible he is retired military and you don't know it? I just can't imagine them selling them without asking to see a military ID first!

Well, a DoD civilian has a CAC (Common Access Card) that looks just like an active duty military ID, so there could have been confusion here. :confused3

I have both a DoD civilian CAC and retiree ID, but you are right, the Civ CAC looks just like the active duty military, except for the words on the card identifying them as civilian or active duty. The AD I work with are allowed to wear civilian clothing, so I'm not familiar with the other's AD ID cards, are AD required to wear uniform for their ID cards? I just thought maybe he was retired military, and possibly used that ID card to get the tickets. The people at ITR/MWR definitely need to be more careful...do you think he was intentionally trying to be deceptive? Hopefully the CMs activating the tickets are being diligent in checking the difference between Civ and AD ID cards!!

No, you don't have to be in uniform to get your picture taken for you AD ID CAC. :) I've had both - uniform & civilian and I wear my uniform to work every day. I agree - ITT/MWR should be more careful. I would like to believe he wasn't *trying* to be deceptive. You'd be surprised at the number of people who STILL don't understand this deal - including the active duty people!! :D I'm surprising people all the time with how cheap it is to go to WDW - and it's right down the street from me! :)

The travel office on post where we went to purchase our tickets didn't ask to see my husband's military Id, even though he had it out and ready to show. He did ask for his DL to verify with the CC we were using.

Last year I waited too long to get my first set, as my MWR requires 3 week notice. (We're in Washington State). I called NAS Jacksonville in desparation, and they Fed Ex'ed me my tickets overnight.

I know me too (usually after they say "What, you're going again?") :rotfl: Did you notice the awesome deal they had for the Disney Cruise too?

one of the minor problems I have with this program. My daughter went with friends to WDW in April, and still has a dependent card(21 and in college). It would be nice if she can buy a ticket for herself without my being there.

We'll be there for 8 days next week (at OKW), and may end up buying 2 tickets each (unless it's warmer than the Weather Channel shows) by Saturday and will instead go for the Water Fun upgrade...mid-70's so far (yeah I know, still warmer than here in Buffalo)

My son (20) just got back from WDW with his girlfriend. He was able to get their tickets from the TTC with no problem. I am assuming the CMs don't know the difference between dependent and spouse. They just asking for the sponsor's social and duty station. These were the $138 tickets, not just military discount.

The CM should NOT have sold them to your son, I don't know why your son even still has an ID card at the age of 20. It is very obvious which card is a spouse, at least it is with mine, because it is pink and it says right on it spouse, maybe they didn't look.

The only Military tickets sold at the WDW ticket windows are the Armed Forces Salute tickets, all others are sold only at ITT, MWR, and Shades of Green.

This is getting ridiculous, people are obviously not paying attention when they are selling the tickets!! Even though he was eligible for the tickets through his sponsor, they shouldn't have sold them to him!!

BTW, dependent children are allowed to have ID cards until they are 21 (which I'm grateful for, because my son didn't have medical insurance!!) My oldest son had a dependent ID card, joined the Army and had to turn it over because he got his AD ID card, and then had to be medically discharged at 20, and was able to get another dependent ID card that expired when he turned 21.

Any chance you can pm me the details on the cruises.

Sorry, it was only good until the 27th!! They had it advertised on the Disboard "homepage" (the one that shows scrolling updates) I'll try to find it, but it's probably not there any more.

Here is info on the Disney Cruise military discount. If we weren't doing the Poly in February (with the military discount on that), we'd be doing one of these three or four day cruises:

http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/special-offers/military-rates/

Hurry -- you have to book it by December 4th, and the military person has to go on the cruise, but you can book up to three staterooms. I hope some of you can take advantage of this offer! :cool1:

-- I just checked that link this morning after posting it last night. Last night, it had booking dates from November 28 until December 4, 2011. But today, the page now says November 14 to November 20. <scratching head> I don't know how the date changed -- I didn't even see it originally until November 29th, so I am positive that the date did read until December 4th. Weird!

He SHOULD NOT have been able to buy these tickets!!!

Obviously, they were not paying attention at all.

When I was a dependent child, I was only allowed to have mine until I turned 18, didn't know it had changed.

Yeah, I thought it was 18 too. I was so scared if DS didn't get a job fast enough that he wouldn't have any health insurance. I don't know why/when they changed the age, but I'm ever-so-glad!
