2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

Why on earth did it take them so long to set this policy?

Judy and I were both Federal employees. Prior to our retiring from the government we would often make the following statement:

"Until we started dealing extensively with The Walt Disney Company we thought we worked for the largest bureaucracy in the world."

Trying to figure out how I can make this work:

We purchased 5 Military passes in June. We used 2 Theme park visits and 2 WPF&M visits. We are going again in January and will most likely be purchasing the passes again, this time with the hopping option. Here is my question...will we be able to use the old passes and the new passes during the same week? The Disney statement makes it sound like no more than 6 passes can be used during one week. Also, this time I will need to purchase a pass for my DD, can her pass be upgraded to 6 days to match our tickets?

Thanks!

1. From the way it is worded I'd say "No, you can't use more then 6 tickets in a week..." But with Disney you never truly know until you've tried and tried at least 4-5 times! :rotfl: But I do believe you can add park hopper to your current tickets...

2. No, you can not add days to the Armed Forces Salute tickets.

Any one know what Disney's definition of "any single week" is. Are they using a calendar week or a seven day period from the first day's use of your ticket? :confused3

I think you'll be OK to use both since one set of tickets is already activated and live.

But no, you can't upgrade your daughter's ticket.

It looks like Disney finally updated their website with the new info for the 2011/2012!

that first line says park hopper tickets. but then the second one says you can add park hopping for $27 more.

so is the military members ticket with park hoppers for $138?

thanks in advance.

Disney has not been careful in writing the rules of this program. You noticed an important point. Cheshire Figment explains it best in his sticky, "Everything About WDW Tickets," Post #17, Disney’s Armed Forces Salute. Here is an excerpt:

Tickets and Entitlements
A service member may purchase up to six “4-Day Disney’s Armed Forces Salute Ticket” at any time during the promotion. At the time of purchase the service member must choose between three possibilities. There is no Base ticket available. Each ticket is either a four-day Park Hopper or it is a four day non-hopper with four Water Parks and Fun entries. Either of these tickets is $138. A ticket with both hopping and WPF&M is available for $165. These may be used by dependents or guests. The name of each dependent and/or guest will be recorded in ATS, tied to the service member’s name, and will be printed on the ticket. The price is the same no matter the age of the user. As normal, people under age 3 do not require tickets.

All Tickets will expire Midnight, Sunday, September 30, 2012, even if all entries have not been used. After the tickets are initially issued, it is $27 (plus tax) to add WPF&M to a Hopper or to add Hopping to a ticket with WPF&M. The normal 14 day rules concerning expiration and upgrade do not apply. However, no additional days may be added and the ticket may not have the No Expire option added.

(Note CF's statement has not yet been updated to reflect the availability of buying 12 tickets instead of just 6 tickets.)

Thanks! That is what I am hoping. Maybe they just mean you can't purchase and activate more than 6 tickets during a one week period. It would be pretty crappy if I can't use the remaining two park days on my current tickets in conjunction with purchasing new ones.

I thought I would provide an update/follow-up on the question I raised some time back about exchanging MYW tickets for AFS tickets.

Using CF's advice, I took my KTTW cards to guest services at DTD on the morning we checked in. I was able to exchange the unused 2-day base tickets on the room cards and apply what I paid toward the purchase of AFS tickets. I was prepared to pay the difference (which would have been around $12-15), but the CM did one better. She was able to do a "partial" bridge from what I paid (prior to most recent price increase) up to the exact cost of the AFS tickets and then made the exchange, so I had to pay nothing extra!!! Granted, it was only about $15, but it was still a nice sprinkling of pixie dust.

To make the exchange, they had to remove the tickets from my KTTW cards and issue a "paper" ticket, but the slight inconvenience of carrying tickets that weren't loaded on the KTTW cards was well worth the free upgrade from 2-day base tickets to 4-day PH with WPFM added.

Also, I expressed concern about dining credits getting messed up when the tickets were removed. The CM verified that everything was fine. She acknowledged that this had been a problem in the past but she also told me that they now have a new computer system which is greatly improved and doesn't lead to these issues.

so if i am reading this right: the fd has the requirement to purchase 2 day base tickets. so you are saying that you can then apply those 2 days base tickets to the afs tickets?

i am not sure i am understanding your situation, because you say that you were willing to pay the difference. but in exchanging the 2 day base would be more than the afs tix, so there would be no money due.

any help in that clarification would be appreciated. i wonder if you just got some pixie dust sprinkled. and that we could not count on that happening as policy, since it does say that you can exchange as long as the cost is equal to or lesser than.

You are correct that I had to purchase at least a 2-day ticket for my package with Free DDP. I booked PRIOR to the most recent price increase. So I paid $162/ticket I think it was. The 4-day PH/WPFM AFS tickets cost $165 each. If I had booked AFTER the price increase, then the AFS would cost less than the MYW tickets, but prior to that the MYW tickets were just a little bit less expensive than the AFS tickets. This is why they did a "partial" bridge. Otherwise, the MYW tickets would have had a higher value.

I'm not 100% certain, but I'm afraid if you book AFTER the price increase, then MYW tickets already have a higher value than the AFS and I'm not sure they will allow you to exchange them. If they allow you to "accept the loss" of the slight price difference, it would still be worth it, because you are getting a 4-day PH w/WPFM in place of a 2-day base ticket. But I recall reading that you could only exchange a ticket with a value "equal or lesser to" the AFS ticket.

ah i see. thanks so much for clarifying that for me. that then makes sense.

it would be nice if we could just take the loss of the 2 day base tix and apply to the 4 day afs. i would be willing to take that small loss for free dining.

i did not realize there was that price increase. but again, thank you so much.

So does anyone know for sure - is it possible with current ticket prices to book a Free Dining package including 2 day park tickets to meet the FD minimum requirement and then go to Guest Services and trade those 2 day tickets in for the 4 day Military Salute Tickets (either the $138 or $165 versions)?

If I'm reading the previous poster correctly, it seems to have worked prior to price increase. Wasn't sure if this was just a lucky break for that person or if the scenario would work for all. What do yall think? and Does anyone (Cheshire Figment or others) know for sure?

I researched this pretty extensively prior to my trip. I would say it was not just a lucky break. The policy allows for this.

Unfortunately, where I WAS lucky and I'm afraid from here on out myself and anyone else is UNlucky, is this:

Due to the recent price increase, the 2-day tickets required for a FD package no longer cost $3 LESS than the AFS ticket. They now cost $3 MORE than the AFS ticket. I'm 99% sure that will prevent you from being able to do the exchange. Now, if for some reason, you only have to purchase a ONE-day ticket with your package, then you SHOULD be able to apply that cost toward the AFS because it would be less. But I think they pretty much always require a 2-day ticket with a FD package.

Too bad they can't bridge the price DOWN to the cost of the AFS.

I had been wondering if it would be possible to exchange 2 day MYW FD tickets for 2 AFS tickets per adult, we need the 8 days, but I didn't because I didn't think it would be possible. I am thinking with my math, it would still cost more, than to just get 8 day MYW w/hopper with the FD package.

You know, I really don't mind losing the $3/ticket or $6 total to save $51 on my package and then still have them available to me until Sept 2012 at least for the WPFM option

Hoping someone on the boards can help me with this question. We have the 40% off the room portion of our package and have added the dining. Because we are staying 7 nights I am thinking it is better to just purchase the regular 7 day park hopper tickets since the 4 day hopper will not do us any good. Do these tickets have to purchased separately or can they be added to our package? I apologize if this has already been addressed.
Thanks!

You should be able to get discounted (by about 10%) seven-day hoppers from your local MWR/ITT office, and there will also be no sales tax. Check with them; the tickets may have to be ordered for you. Or you could buy them at SoG.

Or, you could add the WP&M option and give yourself days at BB, TL and DQ as days "off" from the parks and essentially turn that 4 day ticket into an 8 day. Or, you could buy double sets of the 4 day tickets and still save yourself money over buying a 7 day.

So, sorry if this has been answered...

We are going to Disneyworld in March 2012, staying at Shades of Green. We are purchasing the military 4-day passes (they are a hopper version from our base) for $138. Now, we want 5 days at the parks. Is my only option to pay normal one day admission for that 5th day? That will be almost as much as I am paying for the other four day combined! Which is crazy. I am very appreciative of the deal, but I wish there were an option to add a day that wasn't so expensive. Is there any other way to get a 5th day at the parks without paying almost full price? (We are two adults, and one child age 5, my DD is free, still age 2).

Thanks!

Spend $165 on the WP&M tickets and spend one day at a water park. It essentially turns that 4 day ticket into an 8 day if you are willing to spend a day out of the 4 major theme parks and instead do a water park or Disneyquest.
