2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

It seems while I was scanning all the posts regarding this subject, I remember people asking about using some of the tickets now and then coming back say in the late summer to use the rest. If that is okay then what would be the difference in back to back? Maybe Cheshire could give us more insight? Please?

The only thing that easily shows up in ATS when we go to activate Armed Forces Salute Tickets is the name, DoB, Base, and number of tickets which have already been activated during the current year. (In 2009 it indicated if the free service member ticket had been issed and the number of Companion tickets issued.)

So as long as the total number of tickets, including the ones being activated, does not exceed six there is no problem. There is nothing in the official procedures that says that alll the tickets must be used by different people.

The reason for the demographics on all the people is if one of the tickets gets lost and the service member is not available a replacement ticket can be issued.

And, when I use the <COPY> function on the demographics screen, if I do not change any of the information it will only generate a warning that all the data is the same, and asks if I want to continue; this gives me the choice to issue a second ticket to the same person or to correct a duplication error.

So is there a way for me to bring information on my niece and nephew and have a ticket activated for them since they won't be with me tomorrow when I go activate our tickets at DTD? I have their birthdates, but my niece doesn't even have a drivers license. Should I have my nephew scan his drivers license and send it to me? Do I need their SS#s? (In the past, as I recall, we just had to really show my husband's military ID card, and they told us that all the rest of the tkts were tied to that. I made a copy of the backs of the cards just in case)

Cheshire Figment, thank you so much. This was one of my last To Do's on my list before our trip - to fully understand these tickets. I can go now and not worry that I may have blown several hundred dollars just because I didn't understand. I hope special Magic comes your way today!

To the person who asked about them asking for my ID to put my name on the tickets: The CM asked us while we were standing there to sign the tickets and she clearly had assigned two to his name and two to mine. As Cheshire said, it would make it easier to replace them if one had gotten lost or something. Last year, it did seem to indicate that they wanted everyone present when tickets were activated, but I'm not sure if that's the case this year. Maybe you can just give them your nephew and niece's names and they can put that in the computer and your nephew and niece can sign them when they get them?

To the person who asked about the water park tickets: It is all just one plastic card that will be labeled something like "Four day park hopper with water park, fun and more" on it. They don't issue you two separate ones, one for the regular parks and then one for the water parks.

The information we ask for from everyone is name, address, DoB, and phone number. The only one who has to show ID is the service member (or Spouse if sm not present).

And as far as people not there, all it takes is mentioning they are not there yet. It isyour responsibility to get the tickets to people who are not yet there.

Thanks, Cheshire. Our experience last year was really disconcerting, espcially since the ticketing CM acted as if we were trying to pull a fast one! She wrote our names on each ticket in magic marker and sighed. I felt like a criminal lol.

Quick question that I think I already know the answer to, but doesn't hurt to ask: I know that you can add days to a regular MYW ticket after purchase, but it doesn't appear that you can do the same with the 4-day military tickets. Is that correct? If so, why wouldn't Disney want to give me the ability to add days so that I will spend more time and money in the parks?

When do the promotions "roll over"? I'm looking to get March 2012 tickets so when would they be available for purchase?

This may be completely incorrect, but I think Disney wants to appear to do something nice for the military without impacting ticket sales too much. Many people go for longer than 4 days and so have to buy two military tickets or just buy regular tickets because it's most cost effective. Disney gets to look like good guys but also gets its money's worth on the tickets. Just my opinion and quite possibly incorrect!

Probably for the same reason that they don't sell more than a 10-day ticket. They have to draw a line somewhere, and that's where they decided to draw it. So, if you were to buy a 10-day MYW ticket, you couldn't add more days to it, either.

Disney has decided this year to give us a slightly more affordable 4-day park hopper (or water park fun and more) ticket as a nice thing to do for military folks. But if you want more days, you might be better off buying the Stars and Stripes ticket offered regularly at Shades of Green, or even a regular MYW ticket, depending on what works best for you.

Depending on the number of days you are going, it might be worthwhile for three people to use two of the Armed Forces Salute tickets each, and other people in the party buying tickets for the number of days on the trip. When Disney feels ready to implement their next promotion they will do so. If other recent promotions have been any indication, for about the first month nobody will really understand it and the Marketing people will not have thought out all the ramifications.

Trust me, any answer you get will be pure speculation. They won't have any idea of what is to be offered until next fall, at the absolute earliest. Until Disney makes a decision and shares it with them.

Dh (AD military), I, our two boys, and fil are heading down to the World next weekend. We'll be using five of the tickets.

I just found out that I have a conference in Orlando in Apr. It looks like I can purchase and use the sixth ticket during my conference, right? I'm the spouse (and the conference/lodging is at the Swan) ...

This will not work, without the service member being present the limit is five tickets being activated. However, when you go down next weekend you can buy and activate all six tickets and then save one for the business trip.

I don't understand, my husband (the member) will be with us next week. So, that's him and four others. I can't buy the fifth non-member ticket on my own (as the spouse)?
