2009 Marathon Weekend dates?

When do these typically come out? Far enough ahead (11 -7 months out) so we can book at one of our DVC homes?

What are people's resort preference for the Marathon Weekend (half) at either DVC or any of the Disney resorts?

Does Anthony Travel typically offer good rates and usually at what resort? How far out do they start booking?

Thanks!

No worries about your booking window... the dates are published at least a year out. Usually next year's dates are published in the current year's marathon program (which will be out in about a month or so).

Since all the resorts offer the same amenities with respect to getting to the race venues, choice of resorts is pretty much personal preference.

Hope this helps!

Hello,
I needed to know this also! Here's my previous post:

I emailed WDW to get the dates for the 2009 Marathon weekend (I need to know which date to activate my AP in January so it'll cover both weekends! ) and it's January 8-11, 2009.

Happy training for BOTH years!!

Registration opens the Monday after the marathon. If doing Goofy, better sign up ASAP as it filled in 28 days:eek:

Thanks so much! So if we book at BCV they should have bus transportation to and from the half? Wow, I guess we'll be planning this farther out than I had thought!

We won't have APs for that trip as we'll have to go down for just a few nights w/o our girls (School will have just gone back on the 6th!). Do they offer any deals on tickets when you register?

When did the half fill?

Do you not get a chip? You have to buy one?

And I'm correct in that we don't have to send in pace times from another race at registration? It can be done later? Even if I'm slow is it better to send it in rather than be corralled in the very back?

Bumping to see if anyone knows the answers to my two previous posts above this one?

Thanks!

The Half filled in May or June. Before the Full this year. I expected the Full to sell out for 2008's race with the anniversary medal.

You get a chip for the race at packet (bib) pick up and upon crossing the finish line there will be people who will cut it off for you, they give you a little plastic tie to keep it on your shoe. They are great. They had a crate to balance your foot on and I know this past year there was someone wonderful (volunteer) who let me place a hand on their shoulder to balance or I would have fallen over LOL I don't recall in my other 2 finishs but they are really great about working with tired finishers :thumbsup2

They have had special chips you can purchase. Here is a link to the 2008 chip... http://interchange.doitsports.com/cgi-bin/championchip/00003.html (they have one for Disneyland too and Goofy has had a special one of it's own for the last 2 years).

quoting from the 2007 registration form (had it at hand, should be in my scrapbook LOL) ....

"proof required since July 1, 2004 for sub:500 marathon or sub-2:15 half marathon. (next was an address to mail it to) If no proof is provided you will be placed in the last Start corral"

now that date they list might have changed for the 2008 and 2009 but I don't have my 2008 papers handy. but it gives you an idea of the wording.

I think the back corrals are the luck of the draw.

The really nice thing that makes those corrals a little less scary. This group. Regardless of which corral you find yourself in you will probably find another WISH member standing next to. Try not to worry too much over the corrals, though I know it's hard not to :)

Happy training!!!! Remember the Castle awaits and the corrals will be a long long way behind you by then :cool1:

We have had others who stay at the Epcot resorts and I seem to recall that if you want to walk back AFTER finishing you will need your park pass. They should have buses from those resorts because the park is completely closed at that hour plus they will be setting up for the race (half goes thru the front and the full thru both) so I can't see them allowing anyone thru prior to the race therefore there has to be buses running for those resorts too.

Thanks Diane!

So if you buy the special chip will it work for other races, too?

DH has run a sub 2:15 half before. Does it have to be within a certain time period for it to be usable for the Disney half?

And if my pace is slower than that I don't send in anything, just get put in the back?

I don't know why this is all so confusing to me! :lmao:

Does anyone know the answer to this question?

So the half's start and finish is at Epcot? Will they have buses back to BCV after the finish? We won't have APs then... We usually walk into the back entrance when staying at BCV so I'm not sure they even have buses to BCV from Epcot?

Thanks so much!

I always stay at BWV. There is NO way to walk to the start through EPCOT so you must take a bus. I always get down to the bus stop at 3:30 am so I make sure I get a bus. I don't want to wait for the last one at 4:00am.

We always walk through EPCOT back to our room after both races. It does take a ticket to get in(we have AP's) The park doesn't open until 9:00 am. They have busses to take you back to BC.

BTW, the chips are good at any chip timed race.

Sending from a rainy WDW:( I rainy day at WDW is better than a day at work:)

Added: The 1/2 filled on 6/1 for the 08 race. The reason why it took longer for the marathon was they increased the capacity by 4000 runners. Otherwise it would have filled sooner.

I KNEW Robert would have the answers on those :thumbsup2

Sorry your stuck indoors while at WDW Robert hope the sun comes out soon for ya :)

Thanks Robert. :goodvibes

So did they offer tickets with registration like they did at Race for the Taste?
