Don't let them rain on your parade. I am also going with a group, and I intend on leaving their you know whats at the resort if they don't fall into line.

Lol, too funny! At least this is always an option!

First off, thank you to everyone for the "welcomes"

My nephew lives with us (has since he was little) so his mother (my sister) wants to go along as well, which I think is a good thing. She decided since she was going along that she wanted her daughter (my niece) & my niece's two kids to go along. I was really excited about all of us going until I found out that my niece's hubby is coming along as well - he grew up in California right next to Disney Land - he keeps trying to get us to go there instead of Florida. When he realized that we weren't going to change our plans, then he told us that he would "just come along, bring his negative attitude with him, and make everyone miserable." He compared Disney World to walking in the park feeding the ducks - he said that you could see each park in 5 minutes. So at first, this was a big bump in the road for me. Please note that my sister & I are splitting the cost down the middle ..... so my niece and her family will be going for free. Why gripe if something is free??? But that is all that they have been doing.

However, I'm not going to worry about it. I've decided to just plan out what we want to do - have them all look over it, and let them pick which ADR's that they would like to do with us. Maybe this will give everyone a bit of freedom to split up at times.

It's good to hear other people talking about their Family Gatherings being a fun time ...... maybe I am just worrying for no reason. I really am glad to have my sister coming along - she just isn't used to being around kids - so she finds vacations with our family to be very "tiring" lol.

Our family used to always get season passes to Astroworld here in Houston, we really miss it since it has closed down (that is where I met my hubby when I was 17, lol). Now we go to San Antonio every summer to Fiesta Texas & Sea World. So Disney World will be AWESOME! I would also love to take the kids back to Disney for Christmas of 2010 ..... I hear that the decorations are beautiful ...... guess I only need to plan one vacation at a time, huh???

Well, I don't drink ...... BUT you never know, this vacation might drive me to it, lol

We bought a clear bin from Walmart and then decorated it with Disney stickers to make it "official"

I have my Disney box started and it is full!!! Need a bigger box. My dh has really gotten into making his own t-shirts for this trip. I have our POP century luggage tags in there, leftover ponchos from last trip, my high dollar socks (only buy these for Disney since there is a lot of walking), backpacks, etc. I just slowly buy stuff all year that way I won't have to spend the money all at once and it helps keep me excited for the trip.

Yep, that just means that you need a bigger box! I agree, if you buy things thoughout the year then you will have most of what you need. That way it doesn't hit your pocketbook so hard right before vacation. The only thing that I am waiting on is shorts for everyone ..... the kids are always changing sizes it seems. It does help keep you excited for the trip.

I must ask ..... what special socks? I have heard people on this board talk about the Nike dry ones ..... is this the ones you use?

We are also making shirts for the trip ..... waiting to spring that on the "extended family" lol. I got one of the DISigners to make us Mickey heads with our names in it. I would love to see your shirts when you are finished making them. Going to check out your pre-trip report now.

AngelBabyJana you should have a great time! If by chance some of your family becomes, shall we say 'difficult' during your trip, just let them do what they want and you go do what you want. On one of our trips to WDW, other members of my family went with us and I found that a little time away from them doing our own thing made things alot easier. Have a great time!!

Ahhh..... big family trips. I have done it twice now. Always sounds like a good plan before we go.... don't get me wrong we have had plenty of wonderful and magical moments but the meltdowns seem to pop in my head more than the magical ones meltdowns mostly coming from my nearly 60yr old father and 30 yr old brother
to be fair....we go in the blistering heat of July so that alone kind of breeds meltdowns.
After the first day of meltdowns and people arguing over where to eat lunch....I had to adapt the laid back additude while with them - and my usual commando style when it was just my little family

Thanks! I think that is the secret ..... knowing that it is okay to split up and do different things.

feeding the ducks...what the heck does that mean??

Guess I should have explained better, lol. Here in Houston we have a big park (located next to the zoo) - the park has a pond in the middle full of ducks (yes, real ducks) ..... everytime we go to the zoo it is a must to take a walk through the park to feed the ducks (the kids love it). He was comparing Disney to that. Saying that each park would take about 5 minutes and then we would all be bored & ready to go. Obviously he doesn't know us very well .... I'm already trying to decide how I'm going to fit everything into the 8 days that we will be there. Jason just needs some pixie-dust sprinkled on him. Maybe seeing Disney through the eyes of his children will give him a new perspective on things (his DS will be almost 5 and his DD 2 1/2 when we go).

Others are right when they tell you to just let your brother know what your plans are and tell him he can join you if he wants. DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO! It's YOUR family vacation. We have vacationed several times with DH's brother and his family and have decided that we just can't vacation with them. They like to SLEEP on their vacations and we like to get up and make the most of our day. We like to tip, they DON'T tip, so then we end up paying the whole tip. It's just different ideas of what vacations are. We are going to spend a week in Mexico at DH's sister's condo with her children. So, there will be 11 of us in a 3 bdrm, but she is like us on vacation. It'll be all good. 'Cept I hear it's butt hot down there in July. Not looking forward to that.
Your vacation will work out as long as you don't let the fuddy duddy regulate the attitude and the things that you do. You go sister!

AND, after looking into flight options, we saw it was cheaper to fly down on a Sat instead of a Sunday, and with 5 tickets, it was almost the difference of an extra night - so we are going from Saturday 3/14 - Saturday 3/21 instead of Sunday the 15th!! 7 whole nights!

The CM I just spoke to said she thought the end of July...but from what read on here, everyone gets a different response depending on the CM!

AND, after looking into flight options, we saw it was cheaper to fly down on a Sat instead of a Sunday, and with 5 tickets, it was almost the difference of an extra night - so we are going from Saturday 3/14 - Saturday 3/21 instead of Sunday the 15th!! 7 whole nights!

SO EXCITED!!!

Yay!!! It just makes it seem more "official" doesn't it? That is great that you found a way to add an extra night on!

AngelBabyJana - I have travelled a lot over the years with other people, both family and friends and combined.

The secret is to only plan to do some things together but not too much.

We planned three sit down meals on different days - that would lead to us spending the days together but the rest of the days, nothing was planned as a group.

It allowed everyone to plan on being together for those activities, but plan on doing there own thing the rest of the time. Otherwise it is way to much pressure.

I always started by telling everyone what I planned to do the next day and then they would be able to decide if they wanted to come with me or not.

It has usually worked out pretty well. But I can no longer tolerate going with my friends husband along...he drives me NUTS

Welcome! We are also going in Sept. 2009 and staying for 10 nights. We are wanting to do the halloween party twice if the schedule works out (yes, that is how much we loved the party the last time). I use a TA and this time around I am going to give Dreams Unlimited a try. I just don't have the time to watch for all codes and stuff so it is easier for me to go that route.

Well, the past few years, at the end of August and begining of September there has been a Free Dining promotion. That would be nice financially. And especially if you planned and already make your ADR's, you would have a great advantage.

My advice would be to buy the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World and keep up with their crowd calendar. The new addition will be coming out in August...just about the same time the new packages will be

With a TA, they will keep track of any promotions for you and also make all your ADRs as well. It might be great for you to do.
