I have heard from someone talking to Disney Reps at the marathon weekend and another source, that the ToT will NOT have a 6.5K option. I guess they can fill it with more expensive entry fees from the 13K plus less stress with only 1 race course. I would expect them to change the pace requirements as well.

Wonder what else they will change???

Hopefully a tech shirt for one. I did buy one, but it was 2007 and cotton is out. :lmao:

Not delaying the start would be another thing and maybe moving it up to 9pm. Giving us a little park time. I only got to do TOT and R&R before the party was over.

I ran with a girl at the end that said she was only signed up for the 6.5k and missed the split. I told her where it was and she had a few words to say about how it was all set up. :)

Erica and I will be there for the fun with WISH friends. The race is our movable party so it will be a hoot no mater what the details are.

We had drinks after the race last year at the BWV pool. We will do that again this year if anyone is interested.

Hopefully a LOT!

Starting on time would be a good first step!:rotfl2:

I don't plan to waste my money on this one again so it's no big deal!

It sounded like the traffic issue was out of Disney's control. If they started on time, they would have upset as many people who missed the race as those who had to wait 20 minutes. RD's(me being one that puts on 6-8 races a year) can never make everyone happy all the time. I have tried but....

One course would allow them to focus more on it. I will be back with WWDave for the post race post DHS party at BWV:thumbsup2

You are giving them to much credit... A Disney executive ADMITTED to me that the reason "traffic was out of Disney's control" was that they failed to plan ahead and set things up right....

That is a bummer. So many first-timers did the 6.5 K, because there was virtually no tiem requiremnt. Ugh, I'm goign to have to break the news to dh that he adn his dad will not be doing it together this year. :(

That should help teh start situation immensely, though.

I'm going either way. I thought the race was great with the exception of the traffic. I do wish they would start a bit earlier and give us more time at the park.

Actually already made reservations at the hotel. We will be doing the Universal Horror nights on Friday then the race on Saturday night.

Can't wait!

Yes, if they would have set transportation in place, the impact of the traffic issue would have been small and they could have started the race on time.

They are responsible for that poor planning issue and waffling on yes or no to transporation:sad2:

Barring unforseen bodily breakdowns or the kids' social/athletic events completely taking over (or some big trial not yet scheduled, but which I will try to work around), I hope to be there at poolside with the WISHers this year. I missed my Podietry Panda foot rub last year. Hoping this year to maybe arrive the day before (as opposed to a few minutes before) to help adjust to the heat and humidity as well.

I am VERY sad about this. This 6.5k was DH's FIRST ever event like this. He was Thrilled beyond belief that he was able to participate. He cannot manage the pace requirements for other events and this was a wonderful opportunity while the "racers" were able to do their thing.

As I am sad for my DH, I am also sad that others will not have that opportunity.

I am sad.

I think WWDave was all talk and no rub:confused3

I'm kind of sad about the 6.5 leaving. I did it with DD. There's no way she could complete the longer distance (and there's probably going to be an age limit). The best part of doing the shorter distance was that we did get to go on a bunch of rides (that wasn't my planning, that was just luck!)

Not to re-live it, but the traffic was horrible! It took me something like 2 hours to go about 1 mile from our hotel. For the Goofy, both days I hopped on a waiting bus and was sitting in that parking lot before I knew it!;)

I heard 2 people around mile 5 say is this the 6.5 and we responded of course with no this is the 13. They had taken the turn and already where at mile 5 instead of doing the 4 miles. I don't know what happened from there - if they finished the 3 remaining miles or not. I think it kind of was confusing if you didn't pay attention to the sign.

I for one don't mind that they only will have the 13k - I will be there!!!!

FYI, the age limit for the 13K last year was 11.

Sounds good, we will be staying at BWV's (I hope, I have to wait until 7 months out to finish the reservation, did not have enought BWV points for whole reservation).

From what I heard was they had the traffic patterns set for everyone to be leaving the park (Lights, etc) and with everyone trying to get in it was a mess. Luckily I took the boat from EPCOT and cruised on in without a problem.

As long as I can financially be there I will be. I loved the event, but those things above are my few things I would want to change.

I have mentioned elsewhere that for my family this is a very bad decision. My sons will be 6 and 8 for the next race and wanted to walk it with me again. We did it together (just the 3 of us this past year) and it was truly a GREAT experience for us all.

I didn't realize so many people had a bad time. I was a little disappointed at how long it took to start because I didn't realize why. With a 5 and 7 year old with me, it was just getting later and later.

I know ultramm said it was a done deal as of meetings yesterday, but I sure hope that WDW changes their mind. I think that they will lose a significant number of participants like myself.

The 07 ToT had 3200 13K'ers and 1200 6.5K'ers. The race filled way before race date. Disney can easily convert all those 6.5K'ers to 13K'ers who didn't get in. Disney will make $25 more per 13K runner vs 6.5K runner and have less logistics(one course, one start, etc). I would even expect the race limit to go to 5000 and fees go to $70 for the race(up from $65).

Bottom line is Disney will make more money for less work. Remember Disney is in the business to make money. That's coming from a Disney Fanatic but reality is reality.

Laura- I'm with you. DD will be 8 this year for ToT, so she won't meet the age limit for the 13k. I thought it was fun to do together and she loved getting her medal. Logistically it does make sense to have one race without the chaos of merging and to charge more for each runner, still it's a bummer.
