2008 ToT 13K(No 6.5K Option)

Believe me ultramm - I know it is about the money.

But I wonder.....and I have absolutely NO idea - just one of those thoughts....are people who are there just to run going to bring in the large $$$ for the "party only" tickets versus families that are there supporting each other? I am certainly NOT implying that the 13K runners didn't have support, but when you take away the factor of 11 year olds down, you take out a whole segment of "family" that would potentially be buying those tickets.

I can tell you even if I decided I could handle the 13K, I would NOT pay all that money for the after party tickets when we have annual passes and can go some other time. It is one thing for me to pay for being in the race. It would have been something else totally different to pay for tickets for my family to be spectators.

Here is my viewpoint on this - I personally thought the party was a little lame (since I only ended up doing one time on RnR and then we decided to leave) and I was upset that I spent the $ for my DH to be at the party. Then I talked with him about the party and he totally thought it was worth it. He ended up getting to ride his favorite ride RnR 7 times while I was running (he still is bragging about it - and how he got to stay on one time and went again without getting off.) He also was able to see me at the finish line which was a big encouragement for me as I was running. He is at every one of my races and he is ALWAYS there at the finish line and if he wasn't there it wouldn't have been as special.

I for one was a little upset that the medal was the same for the 6.5 and the 13k.

So bottom line - I am glad I spent the $ for my DH to be at the party and at the finish line. He had something to keep him busy for the 1 hour and 36 minutes I was out there. I would definately do it again.

Well money aside.

If Disney could NOT come up with a better course then I agree the 6.5K had to go and I ran it!

I was truly amazed at what I saw on the end of the course.... THe runners were "mixed" WAY TOO EARLY! So your good 13K runners were having to dodge the families, packs of women, packs of teen girls etc who were clogging the ENTIRE path. Disney made no effort to explain race etiqutte to them creating a hazard for both the 13K folks and those of trying to "play by the rules" and stay out of thier way. That was impossible because they were having to play "dodge the tourists" so slow runners to the right didn't help! I was run over by a good 13K guy and I was as FAR right as I could get. Of course the family of 10 taking photos had the majority of the road blocked!!!!:scared1: (And cursed out a runner who told them to get out of the way LOL!)

The party part was "rip off" since Disney dramatically cut the time you had for the "party" if you ran. Plus $5 for a coke!!!! Come on guys!

I don't think I will try 2008, MAYBE if they show they have figured things out 2009?

I agree that the party was a complete waste. We didn't even stay long after that because I didn't feel like riding any of the open rides, my oldest doesn't like them, my youngest is to young and hubby can't do rides like that.

So I spent $$ for 3 party tickets, just so they could see me all of 30 seconds when I ran by. Other than that, we got out of dodge and went back to the room. It was just after 1130 when we left. Not much for us to do.

The entertainment - the band - I don't remember but hubby said it was horrible.

Now it is sad for the 6.5K to go because that was my first race ever and gave me a taste of it. I found out I enjoyed it and it helped that I didn't have the pressure of pacing requirements - even though I would have been fine. It is because of that, that I have signed up for 2 more races (Minnie 15K and half marathon) as well as that new EE one I will do.

We actually had a GREAT time at the after party. Met wtpclc and rode Rock N Rollercoaster with her. (had to pull her out of a huge sea of WISH shirts :) ), did Tower of Terror for the 1st time with one of my boys. Rode Start Tours (bleeck - mommy no do so good on this ride - but they begged) and made sure to even hit the Great Movie Ride.

We left after 1 am as we got onto the Great Movie Ride right at 1 a.m. For a 5 and 7 year old, just getting to stay up that late, wearing medals I didn't tell them they would get was AMAZING.

I think this is part of why I am sad to see the shorter race go.

Having run the 13k last year and witnessing the dangerous situations caused by merging with the 6.5, I'm glad Disney eliminated the shorter distance. As I merged with the 6.5 racers, I had a number of close calls with running over children. Then there were the non-runners who clogged up the running lanes as they strolled in packs. This is all Disney's fault for putting a race and fun run together on the same course.

Overall, Disney did an exceptionally poor job on the planning and execution of this race. There is no excuse for it considering they have been putting on a marathon and 1/2 marathon for the past 15 years. Lastly, I found it odd that the company that likes to promote princesses was showing really raunchy videos that had women wearing minimal clothing and moving their bodies in a very suggestive way while we waited for the start of the race. Is that the image Disney wanted to show to the children who were present???

As an adult, I was embarassed by the videos that were being shown. I might have expected something like that from Universal, but Disney... No! Not when they advertized this event as one for families. Due to the delayed start of the race, we were subjected to way too many of these types of videos.

I also thought the runners were merging dangerously close to each other. I admit, this was my first event. Nothing of racing standards were printed anywhere, but we always stayed to the right to let faster runners pass. I will miss the 6.5 K + the extended time limit. :wizard:
