2008-2009 Cheer Parent Thread!!!!

Hi,
No we will not be at WSF springfield, we have a local left, Return to Atlantis, Baltimore and the All Level Worlds in Atlantic City.
The girl on Sr 5 is gonna be ok. She just sprained her knee. Luckily! There is a great children's hospital in Hartford and they really looked her over.
Our Sr 5 team won Cheersport so they got their partial paid bid there. Lucky for them they had that under their belt. They had to compete twice on sunday, they judged the routine from the point of the accident on. After the morning performance they were in 2nd place behind East Elite. Their stunts happened on day 1 before the accident so that's why they placed as well as they did. On day 2 they had everything reworked and they looked amazing but only were able to put up 4 stunts. Plus they had some touch downs in running tumbling.. all in all they looked great considering they lost their last pass and a main flyer! We were so proud of them. I will be sure to share any info the ankle dr gives us! :)

So glad to hear she will be fine. I hate when kids get injured doing what they love, but, I guess it goes with the sport.

Return to Atlantis is an awesome competition. I used to love going to that one the best when we were with East Elite. I don't think they go to that one anymore, but not sure. The weather is usually nice and the waterfront is fun for the kids. Steph got her first paid bid there so I guess it will always feel special to her.

Good luck with the end of your season.............:( Can't believe it is our last!!! But, maybe my youngest will get back into it, but she would have to give up club soccer (ouch, she is quite good), because they are both year round commitments!!! (not to mention costly!!)

Rosemary.. thanks so much for the info on the orthotics! I am actually going to take her to a podiatrist in the next week or two. We found one that is a foot/ankle guy who is really into sports medicine so hopefully he will offer some solutions that will help Jenna with her ankle. :goodvibes

Brenda, Thanks so much for the kind words about the Comets teams! Wow Sparks! you guys have some awesome teams, you were really cleaning up at all the awards ceremonies! Jenna taped up that ankle and performed great both days. Her team, (sr open 4) did a great job both days. We were a bit bummed out with the final result. Bottom line is they were in 2nd on day 1 by .2 The first place team hit clean and perfect and we had .5 in deductions and the judges loved us based on the score sheets.. we maxed it all out. The deduction we got was a flyer just basically had a "duh" moment and went to single down instead of doing a smush.. to reload up to the scorpion/scale. easy to fix for sure. Well, our girls worked it out on day 2 again.. best performance of the year for sure, they are a very solid team as it is.. but man they were hot!  The first place team didn't make any mistakes but were not as tight as they were on day one and had no energy. Well, based on the score sheets from day one we figured we did it. Hey, we fixed our mistake and worked it! Well, that was not the case, we stayed in 2nd. :confused3 :confused3 :sad1: I felt so bad for the girls because they really deserved it. oh well.. on to the next one!~

Brenda did you stay at the Sheraton about a mile from the convention center? a bunch of sparks were there and I met a few that were very nice. For the life of me I couldn't remember your first name or what team your daughter was on to ask for you! ugh.. my mind sometimes... :rolleyes1

Who eneded up in 1st for Senior Open 4? I didn't stay to find out.

No...we weren't at the Sheraton...we stayed at thte Marriot. LOL...my daughter is on Youth 2 :)

CNY Storm ended up in 1st. ok, I met some parents from the youth 1 team. It was their first year cheering.

Do you know if there were different sets of judges for each day? Only thing that makes any sense to me! lol..

If you saw my daugher's team she was the one with the knee and ankle brace on! lol. She tumbled a step out, based the center stunt and danced one off the center to the left in the front row.

Oh...that must have been Junior 1...we don't have a Youth 1.

I don't know about the judging...it's disappointing when things work out like that though!!! I'm pretty sure i saw her team but they're all blending together now LOL!!!

This is an amusing news clip.

One of the local news stations came out last Friday to do a report on the fact that we are the only gym in Colorado to get a World bid two years in a row. (I know, not a big deal for many of you guys, but it is huge here in Colorado :goodvibes )

Watch the reporter. It is hysterical in how he is trying to explain all star cheer to a Colorado audience where all star cheer just isn't as well known as in some of the powerhouse states. He is trying to get across to the audience that they don't cheer for a team, they are the team.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-Uz7ePjAKU

Wow that was great.. it had to be great PR for the gym.. if I lived in Colorado I would want to go there for sure!

It certainly didn't hurt :lmao:

Although I think the real news story is that they got 36 teenagers out of bed, dressed, makeup, packed for school, warmed up and ready to cheer for a 6am broadcast.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say that our girls are back from the AmeriCheer International Championship at Walt Disney. The girls did great placing 2nd out of 11 squads in their division. They had a shot at 1st, but both days their routine was not clean. Due to the difficulty, they were able to take 2nd even with the bobbles and falls. It was a great and tiring weekend!

Jamie Christian Photography came to Steph's gym and took team pictures. I have tried to post one but am not having any luck. I did have luck posting one as an Avatar!!

He did a great job!!! I will try to post it better.

Good luck...........anyone competing this weekend? We compete next week at WSF Springfield and then Worlds..........can't believe the season is almost over.

Her ankle is still sore and she is waiting until the last minute to make her college cheer video. She has to tumble on a hard mat!! UGH!! Not good for her ankle so we are holding off until the last moment to see if it feels better!!

Hi all,
Just jumping on to say hi,
I'm a bit bummed out, Jenna's ankle has been giving out all year and we have gone from the boot, to rest, to taping and medicating. Well, she really did herself in this past weekend and really made it bad. In a new type of boot with a soft cast and going for an MRI this week. :( We go back to the dr Thursday so see if she has a post tibial tear and will need surgery or not. Either way I think this will be it with cheer for her for a while.. I don't think she gets that or not right now but I am soooo sad for her. She just loves it so much. There are kids out there, running around, doing drugs, having sex, drinking etc.. my kid just wants to cheer! just makes me sad that it may all end for her at 15. Everyone please think a good thought for her this week as we wait out the test results. Thanks. :)

I am so sad for both Jenna and you!! I totally understand what you are going through with ankle injuries. Hopefully the MRI will be more promising than surgery (it was in Steph's case). Steph uses an ASO lace up ankle strap we got from Collins Medical supply (online orders, google them). It helps. We need to order her another one for the other ankle, which she is still sporting the air cast.

Steph is down to the final week of having to get her cheer video together. She has been putting it off because of her ankle but now has no choice but to get it done. She has to tumble and jump on a hard mat!! No doubt in my mind she can perform the skills but at this time, and on a hard mat is not good. Her video is due April 16, live tryouts are April 18 &19 and the coach will notify them if they make the team by April 27............the weekend of Worlds!! So, that could either be a very happy weekend or very sad!!! I am nervous!!

Steph's team was suppose to compete at WSF today but they pulled out. No competition in their division and they go on late at night. I am happy as I did not want to pay the $30 spectator fee times 3 or possibly 5 to see a 'dress rehearsal'!!!

My thoughts and well wishes will be with Jenna!!! Pixie Dust your way........

I noticed you guys weren't there and wondered why....I was afraid the team had suffered another injury or something! Anyway...just wanted to wish you the best of luck at Worlds!!! Our J5 will be competing but they just had to replace someone last night so who knows what'll happen! They're just hoping for a clean routine!!! Good luck!!!!!

How did Steph's video go? Hopefully no re-injuries to the ankles after the hard mat. Hope she is doing well at the tryouts!

Good luck at Worlds!

Hi, Thanks for asking! I forgot to come on here and post. Well, the results were so-so.. She has a fracture and a ligament tear with a bone chip. She is in a hard cast and will be off it for a couple of months. The good news is the dr does not feel she will need surgery just some intense PT. Hopefully she can return to cheer early July. I already told her that she will NOT start to tumble until after our Disney trip! Lucky for us our gym is wonderful, they know what she can do so we don't have to worry about tryouts. :goodvibes
All in all we're happy.

good luck to everyone going to Worlds next week! How is Steph's ankle rosemary? hope is holding up.
