2008-2009 Cheer Parent Thread!!!!

ohhh Rosemary.. wish I knew you better to jump on the phone with you and offer you a cheer mom's sympathetic ear! I rode home from Disney last year with my daughter's knee across my lap! ouch! she sprained her ACL/MCL walking in Disney.. yes, just walking! try to keep her ankle elevated part of the flight if ya can. it does help. My daughter has a bad ankle and she rolled it Monday night! ugh.. just landing her full beautifully and just landed funny. It's her problem spot. she's on crutches for the next few days hoping to keep it from getting worse like it did last fall. (boot on for 6 weeks due to ligament pull and fluid build up) Hoping she will be back on her feet for Spiritfest next weekend. Will you guys be going there?

Anyway.. just wanted to let ya know I totally understand.. been thinking about your daughter this past week with the new stunt group. I'll be hoping and praying all goes well for you. Hang in there!

Thank you for your support addicted~!! She has been icing so much the swelling is subsiding but the pain is still there. She says she can 'suck it up' for 2.5 minutes times 2!!!!

We won't be at Spiritfest............I am happy now as she needs to regroup/rest!! I am not sure how many of our teams will go. NOt sure about the level 5 as we will just be returning from Dallas.

Good luck next weekend..........it usually is a great comp (too bad it is not at MOhegan this year!!).

All best my and PLEASE send pixie dust!!!

Oh Rosemary! I don't believe it!!! You guys have had a bad couple weeks!!! I'm so sorry!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys this weekend!!!

Thanks Brenda. I am trying to be optimistic as I sit in this hotelroom now with Stephanie sleeping and icing at the same time. Maybe all the bad things that have happened this week will yield great results!!

I will update tonight!!! Pixie dust PLEASE!!

THANKS!!! That made me smile!

Our youth 5 team is about to hit the floor and I hate being in this hotel room..............so close to the action but yet so far.

NCA.varsity.com is updating the results fairly quickly.

Sorry I have not posted to keep you up to date.

Steph's team finished 8th. Some were disappointed but not me. Sure I would have loved her team to finish top 5 or better but given the week from hell they had and her injury, they did great. Day 1 had some issues with touch outs and stunts. Day 2 was much better.

Steph did well. She did not tumble or jump but performed the rest like she had no problem. I was impressed given the fact that her foot was super huge when we arrived!! I figured there was no way in earth she could even take the mat. Determination for sure.

Her team is on Varsity.com She is under Celebrity Senior Limited Coed 5. You can see her in the beginning. Blond hair, hands on hips, two black ankle braces on. She stunts on the left in the back and left in the pyramid. She dances in front on the left................

I saw some fantastic teams. Cheer Central Suns were great. I think I saw one of your senior teams!! i was impressed!!

I was upset about Brandon Allstars Sm Limited Coed. They have been one of my favorites all year, so solid and consistent, they had a bad day 2 and finished 2nd.

East Elite Senior 5 (Steph's old team) was in first day 1 (but with raw score 4th). They looked good, with no deductions but it was a different team on the mat day 2. They finished 9th. I felt bad. Don't know if the pressure got to them or they were over confident. The arena fell quiet when they were announced 9th.

Well, we are stuck in Dallas for another day. Can't do too much walking around as her ankle is still swollen and hurts. Her armpits are sore from the crutches as well.....................

Next stop for us..........WSF in Springfield MA April 4 &5 then Worlds.

Ahhhhhhh...Rosemary....I saw that they ended up 8th and actually thought....not too bad given everything you've said they've been through the last few weeks!!!!

I haven't watched the vids yet but did see that EE had dropped from 1st and wondered what had happened.

We had a good weekend...we did a local comp...Mardis Gras Spirit Nationals and it was a TON of fun! Well run and they did a ton of really fun things for the kids...it was very laid back...just an all around great time! If you have the opportunity to attend one of these comps I say go for it!

The gym as a whole did great...With every team except one finishing first and grabbing level 1, 2, 3 and 4 grand champs! Ry's team won Grands for level 2  They've been working really hard so I was happy for them! Looks like we've got some good competition this weekend at Spiritfest so keep your fingers crossed for us!!

Rosemary.. I agree too.. good job for all you went through.. My dd's ankle is still sore but thankfully we had no practice tonight due to the weather.
Brenrn, what gym are you with again and what age division is your daughter? We, (Comet All stars) will be at spirtfest too.. we are bringing, small mini1, large youth 2, jr coed 3, small jr 4, sr open 4, (my dd's team) and small sr 5. Can't wait, this comp was nice last year but I hope the change in venue is good. It's 45 minutes or so further north for us now but should still be a lot of fun.. Have you ever heard of a gym call Cheer works Academy? we are against them but I have never heard of them..
Rosemary, safe travels home tomorrow! Bernrn, hope to see you this weekend! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Dana

Hi Dana,

My CP cheers for Sparks All Stars on Small Youth 2. I'm really bummed about the change in venue...it's definitely not a good thing :sad2: The convention center is nowhere near as nice as Mohegan's arena! I love Mohegan...the arena seating is great! I hate sitting on convention center floors...blah!!! It's still a well run comp so hopefully it will still be fun!!!

Cheerworks Academy is a new merger this year....Cheerworks merged with 5 Star Academy and now they are Cheerworks Academy. I've only seen a handful of their teams this year but I know their mini 1 is very strong and they senior 4 is strong as well.

Hopefully, we'll run into each other!!!!

Congrats! I agree, with all the stuff your team went through the past couple of weeks, 8th place is great.

I kept refreshing the videos, waiting for them to post our teams and yours. It wasn't hard to figure out which one was Stephanie. I picked out the two ankle braces right away. What an incredible trooper! She went out there and performed like she wasn't the least bit injured! Never a grimace or a flinch. The consummate, professional athlete.

Thanks on behalf of the Suns. We are really proud of them. Many of the kids on the Sr. C5 team are also junior coaches on the Special Needs team. They put in so much extra work between both teams. And they are just some of the best young men and women I have ever met!

So, you could easily post the poster child for the hazards of allstar cheering by the two ankle braces!! LOL!! The left one is the newly injured ankle and that air cast was lower than the original one the hospital gave her. She said it was a little less restricting but still combersome.

Bren and Dana.............I wish we were going to Spirit Fest. Good luck to both your teams.

We did not have practice Wednesday as some were just getting home from Dallas due to cancellations. Good for us, just gives more time to heal.

The difference in score between 1st place (Stingrays) and 8th (us, Celebrity) was .542 (or .561 I forget).

East Elite Sm Sr 5, I thought they pretty much had it as SOT and Stingrays orange had a few little bobbles on day 2, but EE had difficulty. The far left stunt group went down (which I have seen a few times this season happen) and then the front left flyer had a major bobble, in the same stunt sequence. They had touchdowns in tumbling too. This division is jammed packed and should be exciting in Worlds. I think Orange will maintain the title though. They are so beautiful to watch. Such a clean, sharp team and those jumps..............OMG!! Amazing to say the least.

Good luck to those going to UCA...............keep us updated!!

Dana...................I just replied to a thread you wrote on the fierce boards about orthodics.

My youngest, who plays soccer has flat feet and achilles issues (due to flat feet). I use a website and order her inner soles.

www.hapad.com

They are for pediatrics so I don't know if it will help your DD out. They are fairly cheap and hold up pretty well.

For Stephanie, i use the website

www.collinssports.com

They have so many braces and such for every part of the body and for every sport. Steph wears and ASO black stabilizing brace on her right ankle and once she can take off the air cast she has not, I will get her another ASO for this newly injured ankle!!!

Check out the websites.............the ASO ankle braces are really durable. She has had her's for over a year and wears it at least 2 times per week. I have also thrown it in the wash quite a few times.

Hope this helps some.

Kids (and adults) can get hurt no matter what they are doing. I ripped my ACL and meniscus twisting wrong hanging Christmas lights a few years ago. :goodvibes

Stephanie looked wonderful, as did the whole team. Wished I could have seen it in person.

Enjoy the short practice break and GOOD LUCK in Worlds. I know it is still a bit away, but keep us posted on the team's progress.

Our gym only has IALC in LA and Worlds left. I can't believe how quickly this season went!

We only have WSF in Springfield MA and Worlds left. We are off from competing until April 4!!! I have a funny feeling the routine will have some changes in it when they return to practice on Sunday!!! LOL!!

Good luck at SpiritFest Brenda and Dana!! And anyone else going....

Wow! I haven't had alot of time to catch up on this thread, but those two quotes caught my attention. I feel like this season has lasted forever...and we still have 3 comps in a row before Worlds. I'm going to need a vacation when this is over!

Thanks for the websites!

We have nationals in Cincinatti April 4/5 and then all-levels in Columbus, OH in May. DD is back, stunted for the first time Thursday since she broke her arm in October.:scared1: Her arm muscles were really sore the next day but she did great and is soooooooo happy to be back.:cloud9:

Dana....Just wanted to say that Comets looked AMAZING this weekend! I was so impressed with all of the teams!!!! Very cute choreography and solid, solid, solid!!!!

Ry's team did FANTASTIC today! They were flat yesterday...just no energy...they suffer from that sometimes and it drives me nuts! They have such a great routine and are solid but just forget to "bring it" sometimes LOL! Anyway, they were in 2nd yesterday by just a little bit and man oh man did they bring it today...those little ladies worked it out and ended up with 1st and got best dance! To say they were thrilled was an understatement!!

Rosemary.. thanks so much for the info on the orthotics! I am actually going to take her to a podiatrist in the next week or two. We found one that is a foot/ankle guy who is really into sports medicine so hopefully he will offer some solutions that will help Jenna with her ankle. :goodvibes

Brenda, Thanks so much for the kind words about the Comets teams! Wow Sparks! you guys have some awesome teams, you were really cleaning up at all the awards ceremonies! Jenna taped up that ankle and performed great both days. Her team, (sr open 4) did a great job both days. We were a bit bummed out with the final result. Bottom line is they were in 2nd on day 1 by .2 The first place team hit clean and perfect and we had .5 in deductions and the judges loved us based on the score sheets.. we maxed it all out. The deduction we got was a flyer just basically had a "duh" moment and went to single down instead of doing a smush.. to reload up to the scorpion/scale. easy to fix for sure. Well, our girls worked it out on day 2 again.. best performance of the year for sure, they are a very solid team as it is.. but man they were hot!  The first place team didn't make any mistakes but were not as tight as they were on day one and had no energy. Well, based on the score sheets from day one we figured we did it. Hey, we fixed our mistake and worked it! Well, that was not the case, we stayed in 2nd. :confused3 :confused3 :sad1: I felt so bad for the girls because they really deserved it. oh well.. on to the next one!~

Brenda did you stay at the Sheraton about a mile from the convention center? a bunch of sparks were there and I met a few that were very nice. For the life of me I couldn't remember your first name or what team your daughter was on to ask for you! ugh.. my mind sometimes... :rolleyes1

Dana and Brenda..............glad to hear your girls did well this weekend. Dana..........how was the girl that got hurt on sr 5? I read about it on the fierce boards and thought OH NO!! I knew you were hoping for that partial bid for them. I hope she is alright.

I'd be interested (if you don't mind sharing) what your dr. says about Jenna's foot problems. Kristen (my soccer player wanna turn to cheering next year!) has so many pains in her feet/ankle/achilees and she will not even 11 yet!!

Steph's team has some more new kids!! UGH!! She is still not tumbling but I figure she should take another week anyways. It is getting better and no way near as serious as last year's injury.

Will Sparks and Comets be at WSF in Springfield?? That would be great if you were.........we will have to meet up!!!
