Oh I love sauerkaraut and Sausage. :drive: I'm on my way!

I loved the video Steve!!!
I love, love, love chili!!! We might need to make a road trip some time and stop by for dinner!!:rotfl2:

Guess I know what I'll be buying when I go food shopping this weekend.

Due to the tremendous number of requests for the recipe of my chili, I will attempt to post it. Remember though that this will feed a large number of hungry firefighters (about 8 or so) For those of you with smaller families you may be able to halve it.

3 lbs ground chuck
3 large yellow onions, diced
4 15oz cans of chili hot beans
8 large ripe tomatoes peeled and seeded OR
2 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes
2 each of Jalapeno, Poblano, Yellow banana,
Cubanelle, and Red Bell peppers.... finely diced
1/2 cup chili powder
1 tbs seasoned salt
1 tbs cumin
Hot sauce to taste ( I prefer a Lousiana style hot sauce like Franks instead of Tobasco)

Brown ground chuck and drain off some of the grease if needed. Add about 2 of the onions and the seasoned salt. Cook 5 min or so then add the tomatoes and beans. Cook till the tomatoes start to break down then add the peppers, chili powder and cumin. Bring up to a boil then lower heat and simmer about 1 hour stirring often. Add hot sauce and adjust seasoning. Serve with grated Mexican style cheese, sour cream, diced onion and crackers.

I suggest wearing some cheap rubber gloves while chopping the peppers.

Yummy chili! Thanks Squid for the recipe - I'm going to make it when it's not 100 degrees :lmao: .

Ok all we need some prayers for those in Dean's path - specifically Kevin's (my brother in law) parents. They live in Kingston, Jamaica and are in the direct path of the storm. They have survived hurricanes and are prepared (although no generator, but they didn't get one before either) and will survive this one.

I'll get Gary making that chili soon!

Definately, Julie! How scary that must be for all of them. pixiedust:

A very scary storm! I can't believe how fast this storm has grown in such a short amount of time.

Our thoughts and prayers to Kevin's parents as they endure this storm.

Prayers and pixie dust for them!! We honeymooned in Jamaica, and we have a friend from there, so as soon as I heard that it was going to hit head on, I was praying for their safety.

I'm always happy when we're not in their path, but that just means that they're in someone else's path! :sad2:

John and I honeymooned in Jamaica too, at a Sandal's resort in Ocho Rios.

Thanks for the prayers everyone!

I've been to Sandals Negril as well :rolleyes1 and now we vacation at Couples Swept Away Negril with my family often - in fact we're set to go back the first week of October and I cannot wait - go away storms!

Kevin spoke to his parents a bit earlier this afternoon and they are now without power, have a tree down and it's clearly raining. Phone service was spotty but he was able to get through. We hope to have another update tonight if the phone holds on.

I remember seeing a picture! ;)

I hope everyone in the path of the hurricane is safe. pixiedust: They are scary to see on TV, I can't imagine living through one.

Julie,

Kevin's parents are in my prayers. We have friends who help to sponsor and orphanage in Jamaica and we've been praying for them too. Please keep us updated.

You weren't suppose to remember :rotfl:

I have the most terrible memory. Just ask my kids.

Cameron "tested" me the other night, asking me what my Dad's phone number at work was when I was a kid. Without hesitation, I recited the entire number 219-949-####. Then he looked at me, snicker and said, what did we have for dinner two nights ago? I didn't have a clue.

But....ironically, some things are etched into my mind. :lmao: You two were very cute!

Thanks everyone! Good news is the storm has passed, they survived, the house is good, one tree down, they HAVE phone service and today the clean up begins. We're waiting for more damage assessments.

That's good news Julie. It's amazing the destruction those storms create, glad to hear they were not harmed.
