Today was a scary day for me.....but everything turned out ok! :cheer2:

I had an appt. to have sclerotherapy on my varicose veins of my right leg. I have terrible veins, and I was really nervous about this proceedure. It's when they inject a chemical into the vein to make it collapse. The injection is guided by an ultrasound. Anyway, it was a breeze! :cool1: Nothing to it! It only took 15 minutes, and then they wrapped the whole leg up in extra wide elastic bandage and off home I went. No restrictions on what I do except no hot tub and no going to the gym ( like I do anyway)! And we never use the hot tub in the summer either.

I have to go back in 2 weeks to have another vein done and then I think I have 1 more. Then I will have the little veins injected, too. We'll see, there's not so much rush on them.

The last time I had work done on my veins was in 1999, and I was in outpatient surgery in the hospital under full anesthesia, and I had 30 incisions on my legs to pull out the bad valves and veins. It was terribly painful!

This was so easy! I just hope it works! ;)

Ok neither sounds nice.
I don't get how they can inject that stuff to make the veins collapse, like aren't they there for a reason.

Like I should talk with crazy stuff that has happened to me

How were you able to add him? we had called and were told that even though our room holds 4 people we could not add anyone else to our room.

Well, I haven't really posted much in the last few days, but the bday party is over and I survived! It got a little scary Saturday morning when all of a sudden, the beatiful day that was forecast all week turned into rain for most of the day. So I had the Weather Channel on all morning and when my Dad got here he was like, watching the Weather Channel isn't gonna do anything, just go with it. So, I had stuff half set up outside and half inside and began to scope out a location in the house to hang the pinata from. :scared1: Well, God and Mother Nature were on my side for a change and while it was pouring at noon, by 1, party time, it was just misting out. By the time the last guest arrived it wasn't raining a bit! :cool1: Still very overcast and cloudy I was able to pull of having 24 adults, 10 3 year olds and 2 babies out in the yard! Some of the kids even went in the pool.

The true highlight of the party was provided by my brother. I don't think I talk about him much. He's a teacher in Buffalo and while he was in school worked as an exotic pet specialist in a reptile store. Over the years he's traveled all over doing educational programs for kids with his animals. He's had every sort of pet under the sun, and quite a few of his pets have been on TV shows like Jay Leno, the Today Show, the Early Show. He's friends with Jeff Corwin and he has used his animals on shows in the past. He's had alligators, an octopus, a couple of dozen snakes, all sorts of lizards. You name it, he's had it--except a dog or cat. He's not into ordinary animals. Anyway--this was the entertainment he brought for Emma's party. They were a huge hit with the kids.

Roxann--the red footed tortoise. Who not only ate most of the broccoli out of my garden....she ate an entire piece of chicken.

And Chewie (Chewbacca) the tarantula. :scared1:

Very Cool!
Nick would have gotten a kick out of seeing the animals

It's funny that you ask that. When Jimmy brought out the tank with the tarantula in it, Bruce says to me, I can't believe he bought them a pet without asking us! :rotfl2: Lucky for us, Roxanne and Chewie went back to Buffalo. Emma got an Ariel doll and an Ariel lunchbox/packpack and Julia got a Cinderella doll and lunchbox/backpack. Rella is Julia's favorite!

Much better choices!!

Even my boys haven't asked for a pet tarantula.....yet. :scared:

Thanks, everybody, for the good wishes. The proceedure is better than the pain and swelling of the veins......I reallly need to lose 50lb right away!

Oh, yeah, I like the turtle, but not the tarantula!

It's been awhile since I posted in the thread. SO busy!

Wow....894 pages!

We are going without the kids.....we were planning on flying my sister down from NJ to watch the kids. She was so excited....we flew her down last October and went to Hilton Head for a couple of nights and she had a great time. It was a mini vacation for her as well.

Well, her work schedule didn't work out and when I was just about to book her flight, she was unsure if she could make it. When she finally said she could, it would have been tight....she would have to be back to work by Friday meaning that we would have to get off the ship, drive 7 hours back to Georgia and rush her to the airport. I was going to use frequent flyer miles for her flight and I couldn't even get the times we need. I was going to have to book the flight cash instead.

We were contemplating cancelling the cruise!! :(

Well.....my parents came to the rescue! They live in Florida...about a 6-7 hour drive (well 8 for them ;) ) I had hesitated to ask them to begin with since they are 75 and I thought that it would be too much to ask of them. I called them and played it off like it wasn't a big deal to cancel our trip, but asked if they were interested in watching the kids. They were EXCITED about it!! They will come up from Florida on Friday morning. We will leave Saturday and stay at the Residence, then go on the cruise. I told them that we would drive back on Thursday.....my Dad said "Well, you are getting off the ship on Thursday morning, right?"......."Why don't you stay an extra day and relax before heading home?"

Wow....no need to rush home after the cruise! We will probably still go home on Thursday since we will miss the kids and want to tell my parents all about the trip and all about the crazy DIS board members we met on board :lmao:

We are now SO looking forward to the trip.

I was really hoping to have a new car to drive down....looking at a Mustang GT convertible, stick shift....but it may not happen now. I was approached by a Corporate VP of my company about a fantastic position at work...would definitely be a promotion and was right in line with my background. The new CTO was putting together an Architecture/Engineering team and they wanted me to be on it for the Unix technolgies. Looked like it would fall into place...then I could get the convertible car I've wanted.....well, they told me today that although most other groups are spread between 4 offices, this group will be in the NY Office and that I couldn't do the job from the Atlanta Office :( I moved from NJ to build their new Data Center, we love it down here and we don't want to move back...even for a better position. Looks like I will just have to wait for that promotion. :furious:

We may still end up with the car....my wife and I are working on the numbers to see if we can swing it without strapping ourselves. Have to wait and see if the dealer can even find one.....the convertible stick shifts are tough to come by....we're looking for a 2006 leftover to get the end of year clearance pricing. If not, then I will wait until the spring, get my bonus, and order a 2007.

I called MS this afternoon and was told they had availability. I added him on, and it moved my DD to child status, and was only $645 more to add him. So it worked out good. Now I dont feel so bad about paying for Krystina as an adult. I thought this was unfair, but oh well! Doesnt matter now.

unixadm way to go on the parents coming through! I bet it's a big relief that you won't have to cancel the cruise. I'm sure your kids will have a great time with their grandparents - that should be a treat for them. Glad you get to cruise with us!

Good Luck on getting the mustang. Hope they can find one with the options you want. Last month when my dh went to get a truck, there were 3 available and the closest one to us was still a 1 1/2 hour drive away. His car dealer had it brought in and ready the next afternoon, so it did work out.

Good morning everyone! Couldn't get on earlier and thought I was going to have to start the day without my DIS fix!

Off to work but it should be a fun one today. It is employee appreciation day which means a party in the parking lot and a chance to wear shorts to the office (with one of Mark's tropical shirts). It is a Luau theme this year.

DIS user name passengers before cruise/after cruise

socks68 3 POFQ/BCV

We are officially up to 38 passengers. At 38 people the round trip motor coach transfer is $18.82 per person. We have 9 unfilled seats so we should have plenty of room to roam.

Thanks Roxann. Janet mailed the check for me this morning from work so you'll actually get it. Mail at my work leaves a lot to be desired.

Also, my sister informed me last night we are at BWV after the cruise not BCV. Why I thought BCV I haven't a clue. I am having senior moments at 38 years. This can't bode well for me.

Unixadm!

How WONDERFUL your parents came through. This will be a special time for them as well as for you! :wizard:

At least from my experience... you'll have a few more when you're 52!!! :rotfl2:
