In honor of our 6 week mark I think it is time for another round of GTKYKFC SSMC06 edition:

This years theme is Celebrating Magical Milestones so tell us about your first time at each of the following that apply (including how old you were, who you were with, where you stayed and best memory of that trip).

1. Disneyland
I think I was around 2 1/2 years old for the family vacation that took us out west, so it must have been around 1966. I have no idea where we stayed. I don't really remember much about the trip, but I'm sure we drove out. One of the few things I do remember is the teacup ride. And I think there was a storybook garden we went through. Of course I could be mixing that up with some other destination on the trip, or even making it up. :confused3

2. Walt Disney World
1982, the summer after I graduated from high school. I was visiting a friend in New Orleans and she convinced me to go with her and her parents on their family vacation. The most memorable part about that trip was the nicknames my friend's father gave us - and we both hated them! We're both Robin so he decided to call one of us "red" and the other one... Her parents also got suckered into buy a time share somewhere. As for Disney specific, I remember her family bought some special tickets to Epcot that was opening a few months later. The biggest lesson I learned on that trip - don't go on family vacations with friends, especially when they dont' get along with their parents!

3. Disney Vacation Club (first stay as a member)
October 2000, Old Key West. We were scheduled to arrive in Orlando around 9pm, but "the airline screwed up our tickets and put us on an am flight instead." Actually David cleverly arranged for our tickets to be changed without my knowlege. He wanted us to be there in time for the fireworks at MK. Why, you ask? Well he had a whole lot of plans for us that I had no idea of. First we arrived at OKW and were given a letter, supposedly from OKW management inviting us to be guests of honor on the Grand One for a special viewing of Fantasy in the Sky. They were "thanking us for giving them another chance" since we were quite disappointed the time we'd stayed there on cash. After checking in and going to get annual passes we headed back to the room and David said he wouldn't mind skipping the fireworks after dinner cuz he was tired. I, on the otherhand, said I'd rather skip dinner and see the fireworks. Boy did I fall for that one. We ate at the Contemporary then headed out to the docks. There were lots of people hanging around and I wondered how many of them were going to join us. I was quite surprised when we were the only ones that boarded. We spent about an hour cruising around Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon, admiring the full moon. I was in charge of video taping the fireworks while David had the other camera. We "parked" in front of the MK and just as the first firework shot off David took my hand, slipped a ring on my finger, and asked me to marry him. Mind you, I'm video taping the fireworks and getting his speech on tape. I was so shocked that I said nothing for several minutes, but I only missed a couple of the fireworks the whole show. The rest of the evening is kind of a blur, but needless to say I eventually said "yes".

4. Disney Cruise Line
February 2000, Presidents weekend. David and I didn't have much time for a trip. And since neither of us had been on a cruise before we figured a 3-day on the Wonder was a great way to check it out. Boy what a tease those 3-day cruises are. You just barely get settled and it's time to go home.

5. Tokyo Disneyland
N/A at this time.

6. Disneyland Paris
N/A at this time.

7. Hong Kong Disneyland
N/A at this time.

We were also at Member Homecoming! (this was when I was still shy and didn't post much on this board) We were with the same couple we went on SSMC03 with, only this time, we had baby Emma with us (8 months old) and I was quite pregnant with Julia. So if you were sitting on a bench by Mission Space the night at Epcot, chances are you sat by me at some point! :rotfl2: Or if you waited in line for the Artists drawings near Ariel's Grotto, you were probably near me too! That was a great opportunity for gigantic me to get off my feet and watch those guys draw--I could do that for hours.

I'll be in chat tonight---I have some Teas that need drinking. :drinking1
We, too, were at MH. I was disappointed with the Epcot event, basically because the only rides open were M:S and TT. I couldn't go on either of them because I was pregnant with Ian at the time. I remember sitting in the waiting/play area for kids with another woman and her daughter while David rode M:S with the husband.

Ok, I'm back!!! I have almost 50 pages to read, so you guys are going to have to bear with me while I catch up!

I had a GREAT time in Phoenix, and have tons of scrapping projects to show you guys!! My body is still used to Phoenix time, so I'm going to try to get through some of these tonight!

So all you who came to Member Homecoming - did any of you come to the DIS meet at the Land? I know Gail & John, Cheryl & Todd, and Mary and Karen did. Anyone else?
David and I were there. We showed up late because we took the bus from DD to the wrong resort and had to wait quite a while for the next one to Epcot.

Not a problem!!! And you can order anything you want!

Well we have Nick's bookback all ready to go. I'm just nervous about him taking the bus because he hasn't really riddena school bus. He did for a little bit when he was in k-2 but my parents lived literally live about 200 yards from the elementary school that he went to so he walked to school rain, sleet or snow, so today could be interesting.
I just hope he remembers his bus route number and where to get off. He has so many new things to remember in the next couple of days. New homeroom number, locker number and combination, pin number for the lunchroom, and bus route number! :faint:

I'm just glad we don't live in Western NY right now. When the kids go to school they will be in lockdown because of the fugitive the State Police are looking for
Wow, that's a lot for a little kid to remember!! I hope that his first day went well!!

So where do we sign up? :lmao:
Ok, so I've been reading all about the CJs. They are SO much fun, and are good for even beginning scrapbookers!! Anyone in SSMC06 can join. We'll probably do sign-ups after SSMC06, and we'll start after the holidays.

It was funny to see the stall in posts. Julie was around for last years cruise where we would post up to the major milestone and then wait for someone else to "snag" the winning post.

I wouldn't know anything about running up post counts. You'd never catch me doing anything like that. :rolleyes1
Ooohh, I would NEVER do that!!!;)

Wow! I leave for a little while and I miss everything!!

Congrats on page 1000 and post 15000!! Major milestone day here!!

The teacher visit went as well as can be expected. Well, first she showed up a half hour early. :faint: Luckily, I had my clothes on! :lmao: So then I was scrambling and I hadn't locked the dog up, so when she realized someone was here she barked the entire time. :furious: Now because she's deaf, if I lock her up, she doesn't know anyone is there. Or usually when she barks like that I give her a kick and push her on her way (not hard just a little tap), but I didn't want to seem like and animal abuser, so the dog barked the whole time....I couldn't get her to stop. :furious: I put Julia in the other room with a box of crayons and a coloring book and that went well---until she had enough and wanted back in and decided to steal the crayons the teacher brought Emma. THAT didn't go well. She was nice and Emma liked her alot, I think school is going to go well.
Well, it sounds like the meeting went pretty well, considering that little kids don't sit still for long!!!

We're slipping if we want to get to 20,000. 43 days left and 5000 posts to go means we need 217 posts per day. :teeth:

Edited to add - never mind. I was using Gails countdown which I didn't realize has WDW days in it. We have 46 days so we need 109 posts per day!
Ok, ok, I'm working on it!!! ;)

We'll be on the "party bus" party: So I'd like stop "lurking" :lmao: and introduce ourselves to the group.
We’re originally from the Chicago area; lived in Glenview, IL until 1997 when we moved to Pinckney, MI outside of Ann Arbor. AKA: the gateway to Hell (MI) as featured in a Jeep commercial a few years back. Anyway, we're now in St. Louis, moved here in 2002 and very diehard Cub and Bear fans  (thus cubbybear1)
We have 2 grown sons and two granddaughters ages 9 & 4. We’ll all be returning home this spring for a week at OKW. It seems we’re always planning our next vacation even before we take the current one.
Our dream is to retire to Florida and work at WDW. Doesn't everyone!!

that's it in a nutshell.
Mic (see you real soon)key Mouse.... :mickeyjum

:thanks:
Welcome to the group, cubbybear!! I'm originally from Chicago too!! I've been in Phoenix since last Wednesday, so sorry for the late welcome!!!

Nap time? What's nap time? I CANNOT get Ian to take a nap in his bed during the day. He'll just scream and scream and scream, for an hour or more if I let him. So we take lots of afternoon rides in the car, or at least go out to the car and get ready to leave. Often Ian will be "out" before we even get out of the driveway so I'll just sit there with the A/C running while he sleeps. Yesterday I did bring a laptop out and DIS'd in the driveway. But no way can I get any housework or crafting done during that time. Too bad too, but oh well.
Ok, I hate giving advice, because I don't want someone to think that I think that I know more than they do, but I have experience with this. Madison had some problems napping in her bed for a while. She would scream and scream, but I didn't back down. Kids are smart and they know that if we give in, then they can do it again and again. I know that it hurts to hear him scream, but you might try it for a couple of days while he naps. Eventually, he will get tired of screaming and he'll fall asleep (I'm assuming that he goes to sleep at night). But, after a few days, he'll know that you won't "rescue" him and he'll go to nap on his own. It took almost a week of this with Madison, but now she naps without a problem. Now, some days she won't fall asleep right away, and I hear her talking to herself, but she doesn't scream anymore.
