We're going tomorrow to the drive in. Only, I haven't watched the first one yet. Bruce put it on for me the other night to watch and I started doing other things. I doubt I'll have time before 8pm tomorrow, how clueless will I be?

Diana - I think you will enjoy POTC2 without seeing #1, but having seen #1 does make it better. If you are going to the drive in can you get there early and maybe take a portable DVD player and watch the first right before the second. pirate:

Good Morning, everyone. :surfweb:

The humidity by us is brutal the last couple of days. The temperature is on the rise. It finally feels like summer in Chicago.

If the weather cooperates, we're suppose to campout tonight with the Boy Scouts. Just a quick over nighter to get the families together. I think we'll all be bummed if we get rained out. No chat for me tonight.

Cindy - I agree about the humidity. Yuck!

Have fun camping - we'll miss you in chat!

Thursday, 26th, fight tooth and nail not to get off ship! Drive back to BCV, take a nap, LTT 4:30 p.m. MNSSHP, weren't we suppose to meet at the Flag Pole?

Did I miss this? Is that our plan?

Now that we have the banana boat booked I was thinking about what else we want to do on CC. I know Mark wants to do the Seahorse Snorkel. I really want to book a morning excursion for that, but my fear is I'll pick the wrong day and will have to miss the photo shoot for the Member Cruise. Just one more reason I wish we'd hear something.

Sooooooo - I sent Member Services an e-mail yesterday using the contact us feature on the Member site. I told them they would most likely want to send it to Marketing. Basically I just asked them very nicely if we could please hear something before our booking day comes up on the 24th.

If anyone else is concerned I suggest you do the same. Maybe if they start hearing from a number of people they will realize they need to at least get us some basics as well.

It would also be great to hear for certain whether or not they are doing something on Saturday night. I'd rather hear they aren't doing anything then to be left wondering.

Good morning fellow cruisers. I spent last night getting all caught up here - been a busy week so little time to DIS. I can't believe we're closing in on the 14 week mark. Seems like not long ago it cruise day was ages away.

Addition to the house is moving along, though slowly now. The framers and roofers worked so fast it put us about a month ahead of schedule. But no one came out last week, and this week things just aren't going as hoped - the water heater was put where the A/C was supposed to go so A/C can't be put in yet, electricians took a couple more days than expected so inspections haven't occurred yet, and that means sheet rock won't be starting today. I hope the delays to add up to more than a month, but oh well if they do. I just want the house sealed up again because the humidity that's seeping in is killing us.

I, too, sent an email to DVC asking them to share a bit of info with us - also included a link to this forum.

My plans so far for my trip in Oct are as follows

drive to Karen's on Wed (Oct 18th) in VA :moped:
leave for WDW on Thurs (Oct 19th) - waitlisted for OKW studio
stay at OKW on Friday and Saturday (Oct 20 & 21)
drive out to Port on Sunday (Oct 22) and board that beautiful ship!
relax and enjoy my time with fellow DVCers/DISers on the cruise and...
then back to OKW on Thurs (Oct 26th) til I head home to Michigan on Sunday. :moped:

We've booked a week long stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Oahu. Going to Hawaii is something we've talked about for years but haven't done. I was there back in 1988 with my mom but Mark has never been. That's why we opted for Oahu. We want to do a lot of the typical tourist things for our first trip including the Arizona, Polynesian Cultural Center, etc.
Mary, your trip to Hawaii sounds wonderful. My family went after my freshman year of college. It's kind of funny how the whole trip came about. My grandfather bought me a car, that I got to choose, for a HS graduation present. The car I chose came with 2 free round-trip tickets on Eastern Airlines - remember them - because it was the previous year model and they wanted to get rid of the car. We were going to use those tickets for a family vacation, but when it came to planning it turned out cheaper to get a package deal for airfare/hotel for all of us than to use the free tickets. So we got a nice family vacation out of the tickets without using them. A few months later my dad and I flew down to Nassau for a weekend for free, right before the tickets expired. So I guess I got 2 trips out of the deal. ;)

Good idea on the link Mary. I know they know we are here but it doesn't hurt to remind them. :) I also know we on the DIS are a small portion of the total DVC population, but I do think we represent a wide demographic and make for a good focus group.

Well, we got the official word today that Chris's surgery is going to be next Wednesday morning. So, hopefully this will end all of his lower back problems.
Lots of pixie dust and prayers headed your way for a safe and successful surgery.

Good Morning! I'm off to work today for the morning. This afternoon I have a focus group I was invited to. It pays $250 for 2 hrs! That's not too shabby,eh?
Can't beat $125/hour. What was the focus group about? I did one about a year ago and walked away with a nice, crisp Benjamin Franklin just for watching mock-ups for car commercials.

I would love to hear how you prepare and pack your things for the scrapbooking weekends. That really seems like something I would like to do and would love to hear more about it. We do them locally at a good friends home when her husband goes on his annual fishing trip and it's so much fun!
I've found that packing for something like CKU, which I've been to 3 times, can be quite different than packing for GASC, which I go to every year. Since I basically go to GASC for the crops, I tend to plan to a certain extent the album I want to work on and grab all the pics, papers, and embellishments I think I might use along with the basics - trimmer, scissors, adhesive, etc. Since I know I'm going for the crop I have hopes that I'll actually get something accomplished. (This year I got tons done for Ian's 1st trip to WDW album.) On the other hand, something like CKU where it's mostly for classes I didn't bother so much planning for pages/albums since I was pretty sure I wouldn't get any of that done. The basics and anything the instructor requested for classes was about all I took. I don't think I even bothered with any photos.

BTW Julie, if you're around and not too busy the weekend of August 19 we're having another local DISMeet, this time in Grapevine. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=13475117#post13475117 Anyone else is welcome to join us, too! ;)

We are having a wonderful time at Disneyland and the California Adventure. We saw the Aladdin stage show tonight and it is
WONDERFUL!!!!! There's nothing to compare to it at WDW.

I will say that the CM are more caring, and kinder and just more fun than the ones here.
Both my husband and I agree there's a definate difference in atmosphere here in CA compared to WDW!

connie

This is because a lot of CM in Florida are retired. They are not in a hurry. They more than likely have Grandkids and are more patient.

The CM in California are College aged kids (majority) and they are in a hurry and don't care that the guests have the most memorable vacation of their lives. IMO

Thanks Robin! I think we are headed home to Iowa that weekend for Dad's birthday - isn't it always the case the one weekend we end up out of town?

Connie - Matt would totally agree with you as we had some not so "disney" experiences with some CMs in California last year. I think too in the summer their parks are much more crowded and there is a lot less space to handle the crowds.

edited to add that I also sent DVC an email using the link on the webpage asking for more data!

GMTA because I also send an email this morning asking whether or not there is going to be an incentive/package for things like the bike rentals/rafts/snorkeling equipment. Being we are going to be at CC twice, I'd certainly like a little break in the cost.

I hope some of us hear back. Heck, I hope all of us hear back and maybe, just maybe, we'll get an update. ::yes::

has anyone heard any new updates about the spa expansion during the Members Cruise? i know they announced WAY ahead of time that it will not be available during this cruise so to avoid disappointment when boarding. but any new news?

is it just the spa that is under construction? will the fitness center be unavailable as well?

Ok I'm a little :furious: right now. I'm usually very much a :cheer2: for DVC and the service they give but this has me a little upset. As noted I wrote to Member Services via the website to ask if we could please hear a little about the cruise. I even stated that they might want to pass the e-mail on to the marketing team handling the cruise. Here is the response I got back:

Hello Mary,

Thank you for contacting Member Services.

Please visit the Member Website to sign up for the S.S. Member Cruise 2006
Cruise News. This may be
found on the Welcome Page of the Member Website once signed in.

Have a Magical Day!!
Needless to say I replied that I had visited the Member Website, I had signed up for the cruise news, but we still haven't heard anything. I'm getting into the worried category as well that this cruise isn't going to be like last years. I know that we will still have a great time and cruising with DIS and DVC friends is what it is all about, but I'm very disappointed in the way they have handled the communication (or should I say lack there of). :confused3
