Cindy - Boy Cameron looks like he has grown about 2 or 3 inches since the last cruise!!

At least. It's so strange now for me to look up to my child. :sad1: He is one of the few in his class who has already hit that stage. To see the different range of 5th grade boys is really amazing. I attribute it to all those wicked fertility drugs I took when I was trying to get pregnant. I have no idea if there is any truth to it, but I know that he's ahead of where he should be at 11.

But I still remind him that I have grounding powers. :smooth:

Cameron leaves for Boy Scout camp Sunday morning. As excited as he is and I am for him, I'm going to miss him a lot. I hope he doesn't grow another 2" while he's gone. :( Cameron's only been gone for a sleepover here and there and camping for a weekend, but always with Gary. It's going to a strange for all of us.

We packed him up last night. I talked to the Troop Leader this afternoon because one of my questions was how on earth was Cameron going to carry everything.....two duffle bags, sleeping bag, fishing gear, camp chair, backpack. Good thing they can make 2-3 trips from the car -- it's just a long walk back and forth.

We had Nick's "Moving Up" day at school today with a nice reception afterwords. Tonight we have the Boy Scout Court of Honors BBQ. So it's a go go go day here today!

So, does this mean he's officially a 6th grader now?

Our school does nothing. Is it a NE thing or is it because of the campus (literally) where he goes to school?

Awww Amy,
We just miss each other. I'll be in Phoenix at the Squaw Peak Resort from the 18-21. But we are going a few days early (15th) to do the Sedona/Grand Canyon bit. I've done it before but I love it. I'll be there for a Nutrition and Breastfeeding Conference sponsored by WIC (my employer). BTW, I'm a lactation consultant.
Ok, now that is TOO funny. I'll be at Squaw Peak Resort too!! Too bad that it's a couple weeks different.

Nick doesn't have his week of Scout Camp till the last week of July. Jeff and I will be going with him. They need x number of adults per camper so Jeff and I just decided why the heck not.
Wish me luck, I've never camped that long in one shot!

Yes he is officially a 6th grader now, which means he is goes to the Jr High in September. :sad1:

It might be a NE thing 'cause I know other schoold around here do something similar.

Here are some pictures from today's Moving Up day

Ahhh Scouts. I remember well the days of scouting. I started with being the den mother, graduated to boy scout leader and asst. troop leader, DH too. I was also a GS Leader and 4H Leader. My son made Eagle Scout! Those were great years. The most youth oriented organization IMHO was 4H. It just seemed those involved with that group were most involved for the kids. Some scout leaders seemed to be trying to relive their lost youth and forgot the focus was the kids. Of course that differs from troop to troop.
My DS would say his best experience was with CAP. He got advanced awards in CAP too. I love camping and really enjoyed camping with both boy and girl scouts. It was a lot of work but alot of fun too.

Stacy, that is too funny!!! :rotfl2:

Cameron says it's really ironic that Nick has a teacher and a friend with the same last name. :rotfl:

It's not the camping that would worry me --- it's spending a week with a bunch of pre-teen/teen boys that would do me in. :scared:

Just saw nasty 6-alarm fire on television. It's about 10 miles away so not in any way affecting us, but it's so sad because it's in an historic area. They're saying the whole block is a loss - a theater built in 1929, a couple restaurants, and some stores.

It's pretty hot outside - very sunny and 95 degrees - so the firefighters are having to switch off about every 15 minutes or so. I was feeling bad for the construction workers up on our roof in this heat. But firefighter, boy do I have respect for them!

I can't wait for Big Brother to start. :happytv: We watch almost anything that is reality shows. I hope for evil Dr. Will.

We are going to Disney July 19- 24. We found airfare for 105 RT from Detroit on NWA today and booked everything. I even called and got LeCellier for dinner the first night. I am sooooo excited. :cool1: I talked Tom out of going camping and going to Disney instead. We are staying at SSR. We have never been there. I requested Springs section but I know nothing about it.

Just got off the phone with Gail. She is feeling pretty good. Surgery went well and she was home by about 2pm. She sounds good, just still a bit tired. Don't know if she will get on line tonight, but will probably post sometime tomorrow when she has a bit more energy. She said they have some bad storms heading their way tonight.

Carol

Carol - thanks for the update. Very happy to hear that all went well with the surgery!

Rest up Gail!

We've staying mostly in the Spring Section. It's our favorite as the kids enjoy the theme pool and not the quiet pools. We've stayed directly across from the theme pool, on the side of the bus stop. A quick walk to Artists Palette and the bus stops.

We've had a view of one of the ponds and the soft shelled turtles float up to the top earlier in the day. A cool sight. And, be on the lookout for frogs at night along the paths. The kids loved trying to catch them.
