Sorry if this has already been posted (if it was, I missed it!) but for anyone interested, the '06 non-DVC Disney hotel point charts are up on the DVC member website. :)

Anything there you consider surprising?

As far as points for non-DVC

Disneyland California has stayed the same apart from Disneyland Hotel which has gone done.

WDW has gone up one to two points a day.

Disneyland Paris has gone up the most (worse luck for me here in UK) As usual only goes as far as Easter!

Passport Collection has stayed the same

Concierge has gone up one or two points or stayed the same. One or two hotels missing and as announced there are additional californian hotels.

Didn't check out cruise line.

Nothing too surprising.

Although there's nothing we can do about it, I don't think this should be the case. Rates at non-DVC Disney hotels always go up. However, if we don't use our DVC points at a DVC resort, Disney can rent out the rooms, and the rates for those rooms also always go up. Therefore, the point rate for non-DVC Disney hotels shouldn't change.

Actually, the rates going up at the non-DVC resorts is why the point price goes up. DVC has to negotiate the points as a trade into those resorts, and as their price goes up, so does our point price to trade into them.

If the value of points go up as the years pass should not the points themselves stay the same for say a night at Poly? Am I missing something with this theory.

The prices at Disneyland Paris include park tickets and breakfast so I guess these will go up more.

The value of a point stays the same at a DVC resort, but it is only a monetary reservation value at the exchange venues. Point amounts change all the time for the Concierge Collection exchanges too. The only thing that stays static other than DVC points, is exchanges through II.

I see your point (no pun intended), but I would think that as occupancy rates at the WDW resorts continues to rise, their interest in "attracting" DVC owners on points probably diminishes. Or, to put it another way, it's harder for DVC to negotiate favorable point rates since my guess is Disney overall would be happier having resorts full of cash paying guests.

I think that the major reason the non-DVC options go up is the cost of labor - rather than the negotiating that DVC does with other entities..

To me, when we use points to reserve a non-DVC option, it's like hiring a travel agent (albeit a very expensive one) to make the non-DVC arrangements instead of doing it ourselves - using points is a convenience, and it isn't free. After all, we could make our own reservation at the non-DVC option, rent our DVC points, collect the proceeds and then pay for our non-DVC vacation. The "leftover" $$ from doing it ourselves can be considered the cost of convenience or the value of our own time.

Those of us in business know that the cost of labor (especially employee benefits) continues to go up. So those of us who want to use our points to take advantage of the non-DVC resorts have to pay for it. (We're paying for the increase in labor costs associated with DVC resort reservations via our annual dues).

I'm OK with this - I don't think DVC dues should pay for the time/labor it takes to use non-DVC options. In a way, it's like an exchange fee for thsoe who use the option.

JMHO. YMMV.

Best wishes -

what happens is your dvc points to rental a villa or a room at a DVC resort - then they are handed over to CRO to rent out to the general public.

first if you are only going for a night or two - your points might have to go in with others to get a reservation.

secondly, CRO has it costs!!! as Carol pointed out.

third, this is a extra use of your points. It is not guaranteed. Right now the WDW resorts are happy to do it for a price. that price is increasing - their costs are increasing.

four - there is no guaranteed whatso ever that CRO can rent the points. Especially at the prices they have to charge. If they can't rent them DVC just lost money on this exchange that they will have to made up.

the points are higher for several good reasons.

besides check the rates yourself - they were (I haven't seem the new rates) - about $10 a point. If you are valuing your points at $10 a point why can't WDW.

Since people before had say that WDW doesn't value your points at $10 a point

lets see

Polyn
garden view rack rate value season $315 + add taxes - $351.25 guess what the point requirement is 36 points.

again garden view rack rate regular season $404 + add taxes - $411.435 you guessed it 42 points

this is generally the method that WDW is using.

there are a several times when WDW is a point higher than it should - but then there are alot the times when WDW is a point lower.

this doesn't work on fri/sat!!!

they are increase to between 178% to 180%. most of the time 180%. from the points that are based on the current rack rates of WDW prices for Sun-thurs.

In theory you are correct but since all rooms listed for rent are not rented and CRO pulls an amount out that's likely in the 30-40% range to rent them out, you will never keep up unless you can get a great deal on the negotiated up front price. And since the resorts know DVC will include them regardless, this will not happen. If DVC were willing to only offer the ones that gave a good price, things would change. But I don't see members willing to let DVC play hardball with the other Disney resorts by removing some choices.
