Peter, Interesting perspective on the Lion King, I would have some pretty high expectations.

Two and a half weeks till we get to leave for WDW, ready for a break. Might be a busy week or two.

Did you guys see the Pirate Theme Menu, sounds pretty good to us. Hope it is still around when we sail.

Leslie, New Orleans at Halloween sounds like a lot of fun!!!! I'd love to that someday!

Congrats on your BINGO winnings!!! :Pinkbounc

Jen, I have always heard that WDW does really cool things with Villians. Is it true that there is or was a Villians restaurant???

New Orleans is a blast at Halloween. We started going there originally for Anne Rice's Halloween parties They were incredible. Halloween has alwas been my favourite time of year so it was a great way to celebrate.
We just love the city though - the food, the history, the atmosphere...
It's not for everyone, but it's fun for us.

Thx for the congrats on the Bingo thing...we've been playing forever and never had won a cent until a few weeks ago when we won two weeks in a row. The DCL Gods must have known we were going to need some help! :D

Leslie, hubby Jeff use to run the NOLA web site, actually just all the cameras, he's responsible for brining kareoke to the internet from Cat's Meow....

Ah, the nolalive.com cams! I know them well. It's my fix when I am really missing the city. I have a feeling I'll be watching them a lot this Halloween since we can't be there.

Karaoke at the Cat's Meow is a blast to watch...the later it gets and the drunker the crowd gets, it really is funny.

We love the cams, thank Jeff for me for keeping them up and running!

Halloween is my favorite too, TikiGirl! It's tough to really celebrate though, by doing something really incredible since it usually lands on a weekday :( and DD has school and I have work. I wish we were all granted at least a day off for Halloween!!! (At least this year it's on a Sunday).

We had the pleasure to meet Bob and Lee, today. They were driving through our area and stopped by. Hey Peter, they got to see the map.. Had a good visit. Wish them a great trip and safe journey. Walked the dogs today and got caught in a down pour of biblical proportion. Cold rain burrr....

Hi everyone!

We just returned from a weekend trip to Big Bear Lake. We stayed in a 3 bedroom house, about a block from the lake.

Can I just tell you HOW much I can't WAIT for May? This trip was the clencher if there was already one! :p

I quickly found out I am not a roughing it type of gal! We had to bring our own sheets and towels. No big deal there, the big deal was when I had to peel off some NASTY sheets off of the beds and remove a pile of dirty wet towels the previous occupants had left next to the kitchen sink. The fridge did NOT work, the heater did NOT work, the screen door was falling off, no tv or cell phone reception at all... I wouldn't allow the kids to walk on the carpet barefoot it was sooo filthy, was picking up broken glass out of the back yard, etc, etc, etc!

We came home a day early! I will never once complain if the room steward takes too long in our room, or if our ice bucket isn't filled to the brim.

C'mon May! :teeth:

Hey Scott,

Could you direct me to the pirate menu post? I saw the one about the pirate sailaway party, but could not find the menu.

Thanks!
Robin

I can't believe that you made those beautiful pups go out in the rain!:) It was horrible.
Wished I had taken a picture of the map. It was really neat.
We enjoyed the all too short visit and really appreciated all the hints and help. BUBBA's was really good.

Did you have the ribs, or better yet, the chicken and ribs? YUMmy!!! :) Only wish they'd pad their seats...I'm a wimp!!!

Good morning everyone! Wisconsin is very comfortable this month! The weather feels exactly like June when we usually come, and everyone is saying how cool the temps are. Great weather for the dogs. My 7 month old thinks she's on vacation! She goes from the minute she wakes til she passes out at night! My mil and sil's dogs are NOT too happy! I figure the last day or two they'll come around....

On the cruise front, I finished "The Path Between the Seas". The Americans built the canal at Panama after all!! Under budget and months early, when's the last time THAT happened? What amazes me is the loss of life...incredible! Or should I say incredibly SAD!

Now I'm in search of an update, since it was written in 1977. That's the year I graduated (with Julie, Scott!) so there's a few things I'd like to get caught up on. Maybe I can find a technical journal that speaks english.....what do you think my chances are? ;)

I finally remembered to look for, and found a 2005 calendar for Keith's Mom so she can see exactly what we're talking about for the cruise. I say something and she looks at the calendar and studies it for a minute, then says OK. (I like her!) ;)

We've been chatting about the hotel in FL. We're looking at GF or Wilderness Lodge, since I know I wouldn't get either of them at AKL, or Keith at GF "normally". When we finally decide on one, they'll probably be full! ;)

We're heading straight to Redlands when we get off in CA, so that hotel is whenever her brother tells us is closest to his house and decent. I'm guessing we'll be ready for a "real world" break by the time we get there and again, I'm just NOT up for sharing DL with Memorial Day weekend crowds.

Anyway, I've been checking in a bit, and not near as disappointed in dialup as I expected. The only real problems I've had were viewing pics a friend sent from FL after Charley. The download for large files sucks, but the "normal" things really aren't too bad. Maybe I'll remember after I get home, and be more appreciative of my high speed.

Well, keep chatting everyone, and I'm interested in seeing the pirate menu, also, Scott. Give Lynn a big kiss! Everyone else, give each other a big kiss! See you all real soon! Kelli and Keith, and Etta

I am toying with the idea of taking a red-eye out out of California Thursday, May 12th which would have me arriving at MCO on the AM of Friday, May 13th. That way I don't have to stress about missing the boat on Saturday.

If I can somehow manage this, I'd like to use that day to either visit MGM or Islands of Adventure. (DD isn't tall enough for a few of the rides at IOA :( - so we might have to pass on that anyway).

Here are my questions regarding MGM:
Is one day enough for MGM? (All I want to do is eat at the Sci Fi Theater and Ride Rockin' Roller Coaster and TOT. Anything else is icing.)

Should I stay on property Friday night, or head out to Cape Canaveral after our day at MGM? If I stay on property, which is the most economical place to stay at?

If I purchase transfers from DCL, do they pick me up at the WDW resort, or do I need to get back to the airport?

Me questions regarding IOA:
Is one day enough to ride the major thrill rides?

Should I stay at Universal or leave and head to the port once we're finished?

Thanks in advance!
-jindy

My thoughts on two of your questions:

Is one day enough for MGM?
- Yes, but it could be a long day if you stay for the show in the evening.

Should I stay on property Friday night, or head out to Cape Canaveral after our day at MGM?
- If you stay at the Swan, Dolphin, Boardwalk, Beach Club, or Yacht Club, then you can take the Disney boat to MGM, easily go back to your hotel mid-day or late afternoon and then return to MGM, AND take advantage of the events on the Boardwalk. However, it will not be the least expensive.

DCL told me that they would do transfers from the Beach Club to the port. As you get closer to the actual event, you may find that there are people from this thread who would be staying on property at one of the above resorts who would have a rental car and might have room for the two of you.

Gee, jindy, is that all you want to know? ;)

Let's see.....IoA or MGM.....

IoA has Spiderman, which is awesome and I'm sure you'd both enjoy it. They also have Suess landing which is fun, but not awesome at all. You could find lots of other things to do that would fill the time, depending on your interests. I enjoy the Comic Strip Island and even the Super Hero Island, but not enough to stay all day. Jurassic Park has a couple things to do, and the Lost Continent Island is OK too. The themes tell you about most of the island.

MGMdoes have SciFi, RnRC and ToT, and tons of other things that would fill the time. MGM is mostly shows, rather than rides, (except the rids you've named, there aren't many).

My opinion only, if your daughter isn't tall enough for the thrill rides, you could do either in a day, easy.

Staying on site is SO much a personal choice. We plan to, because we wanna get the most of our stay each time with Keith's Mom. Her health isn't the best, so we don't go traipsing around too much. Pick a few things and do them and others close by.

DCL transfers are also a personal choice. When Keith's Mom, Etta, and I did the Pink Ribbon Cruise, we took the transfers, and enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your personal preference, we only had 8 people onboard, so it was pretty dead. I'm guessing its a hopping bus when you get it full.

Pop Century and All Stars are the most economical, and therefore fill up the fastest. $60-70 a night should do it. I, personally, think the hotels out by the Port are overrated, but we've never stayed at RonJon's, or driven our own car to need parking. We've either done a rental car we could return out there, or taken the DCL shuttle.

DCL picks up at several hotels, but as far as I know NOT the value resorts. They will pick up at AK, but if you aren't planning on a 2nd day at the parks, that wouldn't work for you.

We're planning on a rental car and planning to leave to get out to the Port decent time. Of course, if Disney does something completely wacky and allows us to book Palo and the spa early, we could plan on going later. The DCL busses only pick up starting at noon, again as far as I know, so if you want to get out to the Port earlier to look around and stand in line (not a bad thing!) other arrangements probably should be made.

I'm not sure how much room we'd have luggage wise, but carpooling is always an option. We can start chatting about carpools or shuttles if you'd like. We'll probably be staying on the monorail route just for convenience for Etta and her wheelchair, but they could pick up at other hotels.

Something else to think about!!

OK, I've had my internet time today....I'll let someone else share for a while!! :D This is WAY longer than I expected!!! TTFN!

Jindy, one day is more than enough time to do MGM especially during the week in a "slower" time of year. Abuse fastpass and you could easily do it. And if you do decide to stay onsite, you could take a nap mid day and go back to MGM in order to do Fantasmic that night.
I know for the 3/4 night cruise Disney doesn't pick up at the values, but not sure for the 14, I would email/ call Disney about this. Or we can try to carpool.
You can do the majority of the thrill rides at IOA in a day, but it's harder to determine at IOA how busy it will be. I have gone on Saturdays and it's been dead, and I've gone on Wednesdays and it's been mobbed.
There is no cheap place to stay at IOA. I would rent a cheapie car at MCO and drie over to the port (Ron John's would be my choice) What's nice about Ron John's is the pool area. DCL tribute has a nice write up about it.
My pick would be for MGM. DD would have alot more to, and you can make a day out of it. The other thing to consider is doing a water park when you get here, WDW water park's are the coolest!
Hope this helps Jindy!

Thanks, you guys for your input! After checking IOA's website, I've decided if we can get in a day early, we'd go to MGM instead. I don't think she'll be tall enough for Hulk or Dueling Dragon's.

It just seems like such a hassle in terms of luggage. My original plan was to use the DCL transfers and stay at the MCO hotel (hyatt, I think?) - so I'd be luggage free until I reached the cabin on the ship! :) But if I do a day at MGM, I think it would entail me having to drag 14-days of luggage to the resort - which isn't easy when you are also dragging a 7-year old behind you ;)

I will call DCL though and find out if there are some other alternatives since this cruise is unusual when it comes down to all the little details....

Are the all star resorts close to MGM?

-jindy

All Stars isn't close, Pop Century is a bit closer and would be my pick to stay at. The DCL transfers to WDW and then to the Port should keep you from having to haul to much luggage....

Thanks, Jen! I will keep that in mind as I call DCL from home tonight or email them during the day today....
