Welcome aboard.....

Well it is Friday and the holiday weekend is here, I want to wish you all a great 4th, and let us not forget the meaning of this great day.

Happy Friday everyone. It is going to be a really busy weekend for us. Probably won't be checking back until Tuesday.

Everyone have a fun, safe, and glorious 4th of July!

Linda

I'll chime in too with a Happy 4th, giving thanks to be blessed to live in this wonderful country!

I just got a confirmation for the shipment of my PC map which was posted about a while back. I thought you'd all get a kick out of the note I received from the one confirming my order:

Hi,

I am shipping your Panama Canal map today. We have had quite a run on these over the last couple of weeks, and I am curious what led you to our site for this particular item. Any information you can offer would be much appreciated!

Thanks, and have a great trip.

Isn't that something!!! The DISers are making a run on the map industry!!! I did answer him with an explannation!:goodvibes

Just got a reply back...

Great, thanks for the information. We used to sell a book (Lonely Planet, I think) on traveling the Canal but it's been out of print for a while. If I come across anything I will let you know.

Scott

Hi Scott, Fellow Cruisers:
Speaking of books, etc., I ordered, and received, the book Scott was getting (Path between the seas) and also ordered one called Panama Canal by Cruise Ship. I read the second one and liked its synopsis of Panama Canal history...The Path between the seas is really detailed!) I also liked the fact that it covered the Mexican Riviera ports of call as well as those of the Caribbean and West Coast U.S. so I'll be able to get mileage out of it after the PC cruise is over.....It also goes into some basics of cruise ships...
As for Path between the seas...I'm about halfway through it and could see it as a reference for Panama Canal trivia in preparation for a Millionaire game show. It covers EVERYTHING!.....

picture is probably to big thought i would try it..

As far as books go I have made it through Cruising the PC and the Lonely Planet guide. I am drafting a very short paper on the Canal and the transit of the canal. Have not started Path Between the Seas. Continued my pirate research by reading Pirates, Terror on the High Seas and Under the Black Flag. Good to see us all doing our homework for this trip.

Interesting about the map orders.

Hope to get a DSL line installed this morning and XM system put in the truck and camper this morning. Dentist trip this afternoon, prep for an implant. Jen are those a pain? Then off to camp at a balloon festival for tomorrow morning. The pups should enjoy that experience. Then home for the parade. Will take just the puppy to the parade for socialization.

Enjoy the weekend,

Scott I have one !!!
tell them u want an imediate load one ..
u will will walk out with temp crown and u just have to be careful for a bit the when the determine that the implant has taken u may go see the dentist and have permanant crown installed....

Happy 4th of July everyone! :grouphug:

Hope all of you have a **GREAT** day and something special planned! We're going to San Clemente to watch the fireworks off the pier fading into the Pacific!

Also, a lil prayer for all the puppies/dogs out there that are scared of the noise. Our beagle will be tranquilized tonight :faint:

Hello All...I am fairly new to the DIS boards, but I'm totally hooked...it only took about 2 weeks for that to happen...just wanted to let you all know that there will be 5 more New Yorkers on board. We are from upstate. Right in the middle of the state..Syraucse. My husband (43 at sailing) and myself (38) have 3 beautiful children who will be coming with us...ages 5,3 and 1. Griffin, Jennah and Bennett. This vacation will be the honeymoon we never took. We are planning on staying on in CA for an additonal week to take in some of the sites. We've been to WDW about 10 times, but never where it all started and we can't wait to get there! Any tips you all could pass on would be great...I have no idea what kind of clothes the kids or the adults will need. We have the late dining which has pluses and minuses. Okay...that's it for now...kids are crying!!

Welcome aboard CM387. Peter posted the web site for our ever growing list. This is keeping Jeff busy keeping up.

Hope all had a great weekend.

We planned a sailing trip to the Bahamas for Feb of 05.

Canal and Pirate research got sidetracked with a very good National Geographic book on the Hubbel Telescope.

Time for coffee. Hope to get DSL set up here at home today.

Peter thanks for the info on the implant, not to baad, insurance will not cover it all but a good chunk.

You are SOOOOO bad, Scott!! Wish it was me.....hopefully, we'll be offering it in my neighborhood next year. Heard tell, we're done for the year, so if an area doesn't have it now, it won't til at least next year. I'm tired of paying $55 for my cable modem, just for a door to the internet!!

Are you having a tech install it? No need, really, its VERY easy as long as everything goes right!! Let me know if anything's wrong, and maybe I can talk you through it!

Say Hi to the tech for me, but I think most of the people I know have left or retired from up there. Let me know what you think of the product, too, k?

Kelli

Kelli,

Will do. The instal looks easy, just waiting for Qwest to turn the service on. Can you pull any strings????

Just guessing, since I've not done any physical work up there, but you'll probably need a tech to make the connection at the junction box for your area. Around here, that's done anywhere from 815am, to 8 at night, but its supposed to be done by 5pm.

You really don't have to wait until 5 to put things together. To get things done asap, you can plug the modem into power and the phone line, and wait til they are both solid. The DSL light won't be solid if the connection up the road isn't made. You can check back periodically throughout the day to see if its solid, then do the install.

I wouldn't put the disk in until the DSL light is solid. Just to keep people from getting frustrated, the directions tell you to wait til 5pm. But its not necessary, just a blanket statement to keep people from calling the helpdesk when the line isn't connected yet.

Good luck, Kelli
