For Leslie and anyone else who is just starting, we are all happy to help, but a real class or two is imensly helpful to get you started right. The most important thing is to remember that scrapping is supposed to be about your photos and the story behind them, not how fancy you make your pages. I love the art of it as much as many people, and it's a great chance to be creative, but when you're just getting started, stick with the basics, then branch out and see what you like out of all the stuff that is available. That's what I teach in my beginners classes, and I think it's good advice. If you have any questions, email or pm me and I'll do all I can to help!

Renae

Hi Renae

I didn't know you taught classes...see what you can learn on the "boards"

I decided to name my photos before I put them up on Tony's site...I've been at it now for 5 hours and I'm still not done. Maybe I should have stuck with the generic numbers!!!!

I don't know how close Ft. Lauderdale is to you- but I have taken some of the EK SDU classes- and they are amazing. Some are VERY basic and boring- like the color class- but it does give you some great ideas. Yes, I bought the color wheel....

Just a suggestion.

Actually... that one is not too far away... I will have to get Joe to take me there so I can hobble around and look. So decode it for me.. what the heck isi EK SDU class??
Right now aside from the ones we did with Linda... my pages are just kind of photos stuck on a page ...maybe with a little frame or some decorative junk. I do want to learn how to make pretty ones though!!! I have 29 years of photos to catch up with....but I decided I'm not going to go backwards until I get the current trip done!! Is there a DIS board for beginning scrapbookers??

This should give you an idea of what it is. I liked the punches and embellishments classes best.

I don't know about a DIS board?

I was thinking it sounded like one of those "This many people died after eating carrots in 1805" papers Celeste had to write!!!

Leslie...there is a thread for scrapbooking....it's for all levels.

Here's the description of SDU from my local scrapbook store

What is SDU?

Scrapbook Design and You (SDU) teaches beginner through advanced scrapbookers the essential scrapbook theories and principles of design. SDU will dramatically alter the skills of any scrapbooker and make a huge difference in your ability to create dynamic scrapbook pages. We are happy to announce that we have recently returned from New York, where we became Certified SDU Teachers and are now one of the only stores in Ontario to offer our customers this exciting program!!

Enroll in SDU and at each class, you will receive the course materials to be organized in your own SDU binder! This book will become your complete guide to scrapbooking with all the tools and project ideas needed to create any and every scrapbook page.

How long does it take to graduate from SDU?

SDU is a series of 10 classes. We now offer the entire SDU program over the course of 2 full Saturdays or one full weekend. Upon completion of SDU you will receive a personalized SDU Bachelor of Scrapbooking Degree at your graduation ceremony!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Kelli STOP... you're making my butt hurt!!

Ohhhh Elaine send me a link to the scrapbook thread... I'll lurk a bit. Of course then I'll have to come back here and ask you to decode what they are saying...:rotfl2: I googled beginning scrapbooking and read a bit on some of the sites I found but I have no idea what they were saying. It was all in code and like a foreign language to me. I need a glossary! Is there a scrapbooking show on HGTV that I can watch? So are these SDU classes worth it... I'm guessing they are NOT free. What am I getting myself into?? Will it be less $$ than the pins?? If so, I'm sure I can justify it!:rotfl2:

by the way Elaine.. I forgot to say THANK YOU for the list of scrapbook stores in my area!!! Is there a scrapbooking magazine that you recommend? I 'm getting too excited about this. I see an obsession forming. :crazy2:

Stop it Kelly! No fair...stop picking on the graduate student! It was either the "carrots" or some other dumb topic....

Actually it was all about Alaska, the people and their culture (and how that impacts their health)....I considered it research for a future vacation- and I even told my professor so.

You are welcome...you owe me one...or just an email address (wink wink nudge nudge) :rolleyes1

I got all the addresses from Creating Keepsakes....us scrappers just call it CK (teaching you the lingo). This is my favourite scrapbook magazine but, Simple Scrapbooks and Memory makers are good also.

I don't know how to send you a link but if you go to the main DISboard Menu, under "Just for Fun" near the bottom of the list is "Cooking, Crafting and Scrapping". Check it out...

:rotfl2: As I was going down the stairs to get a drink, I was thinking, I needed to say something about Alaska!!! Ya beat me to it!!!! :goodvibes

Soooooo Celeste... when you take that Alaska cruise you can write it off as a research expense huh??? :rotfl: sounds like a plan to me!!

Elaine....I would love to give you an email address... but Rick doesn't have one. He's even more old fashioned than my DH. I think he has a computer but isn't on the internet. :confused3 at least that I know of anyway. I'll have to speak to him about that...LOL Hmmmm he DID mention wanting to take a cruise sometime.... we'll have to keep that in mind too..... ;)
I'll go and hunt for the thread. And I'll have to check out those magazines tomorrow at Barnes & Noble. I like the idea of the SIMPLE one....:rotfl:

Leslie, It sounds like you are in the same place I am in reference to scrapbooking, I am following your posts and the answers closely. If you get any good info, pass it on to me, OK?

Hi Everyone,

I am getting all set to start my adventure in Scrapbooking. Yesterday I subscribed to a photo print Co. 1000 photos for $ 99.00. I ordered all our cruise photos and then went shopping.

If any one has a Jo-Ann fabrics near them, all clearance items are an additional 50% off. We bought a ton of scrapbook supplies for less than 25% retail cost.

Hopefully next weekend I will start scrapping ??? I hope one of you scrapbook veterans are available for an S.O.S. call if needed...

Happy fathers day to all the dads,

Bye, Kim
