Kim,

If a liquor store is where you get it, there are a lot of them here. I've never bought liquor, so I don't have a clue, but if I ever have the guts to go get some, it would be to make this maple glazes salmon. It's so good it makes me want to weep!

Celeste,

Brandy???? That's what makes it taste so good? Uh... where can you get cooking brandy in really small bottles? Is there a brandy extract that can be used?

Same question for that heavenly bourbon glazed pork tenderloin an pecan pie... I've never cooked with the stuff, and don't have a clue!

Renae

Well Renae- I don't think it is the brandy. I wouldn't use brandy extract- as it will have more alcohol than the brandy would. Also- it wouldn't give the same flavor. There are two schools of thought here: with the flambe it will burn off most (contrary to popular belief some would be left after the flambe) and then the remaining alcohol would be burned off with the baking. This will keep the flavoring. There would not be any alcohol in the final product- but some people object to the idea of cooking with the flavor of alcohol.

The second thought is if you want to omit the brandy completely and have a similar taste but not have the alcohol- I would suggest substituting an equal amount of orange juice- but do not flambe that (not that it would anyways). You could also try water...but I think the OJ would work better.

I like you, do not drink. I will however cook with alcohol for flavor. I do use red wine to deglaze pans after cooking beef- but usually end up taking roughly a cup of wine down to a few tablespoons- after cooking and spoon this over the meat. I will also make chicken marsala. I do not cook these types of food when I have friends over for dinner who might object to alcohol being used for flavor. I think I've mentioned that my parents used to own a restaurant, so I grew up around this type of food.

To answer your other question- you can buy small bottles of liquor at most grocery and/or liquor stores. For the pork chops and pecan pie- I believe most people use Jack Daniels- but I haven't done this.

I hope this answers your questions.

Bob and Lee,

Our thoughts are with you :grouphug: I'm sure Tippy needs a hug too, and will be spending time wondering what has happened. Animal "siblings" miss each other too. I hope that with time, the emptiness you feel will give birth to a wealth of happy thoughts and memories. What a beautiful picture. Furval had a wonderful life with you. :cloud9:

Thanks to everyone who posted on Furval. Thanks also to those who sent e-mails or pm's. They meant a lot to us. Shows what nice friends that we made on the board and on the Magic. Really appreciated.

To anyone interrested, Furval was 16+ years at his passing. He had beat the odds since he was always such a small cat. His biggest weight was about 9 lbs.
Scott, his name was a mistake. When we got him at the shelter, he was such a little thing that Leora said that he looked like that character in the movie American Tail. However, that character ( a mouse) was named Fieval(sp?) and we thought it was Furval. That is the origin of his name.
I posted some pics and some thoughts on a web page for some of our friends and family. Hey, you're friends too, so if you are so inclined.>http://members.aol.com/FurvalJ

Hi Bob and Lee

That was a very nice tribute to Furval. With three cats of our own, I know how animals become part of the family. I'm sure he will be missed.

Ken

Bob and Lee, thanks for sharing the site with us. I for one really appreciated your relating about how he dispelled the stress and always there. Aren't pets great, they give us so much. He sure did beat the odds. I feel that is part of what made him special. Please let us know if you find a new friend to fill his paws.

Kay,

Nothing was destroyed except his internet connection. He bought a replacement part today and fixed it, I guess he didn't want to share...lol

Renae

Celeste,

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I don't have a problem with eating stuff that used alcohol for flavor, but I've never actually cooked with it. My cooking has been way to basic for that fancy stuff, lol... Might have to try it sometime, get brave in my old age!

Jenn:

I started a Blog thru Kodak (Ofoto) and can't figure out how to make corrections each day. It was crazy. Thought it would have been nice to go in and make remarks each day and then go back from time to time and check what I did.

I think there might be several sites for Blogs and you just have to find the right one??

MSN? I don't have MSN as an e-mail - Is that a paid site??

Yesterday it was Too Hot here to go for a dog walk. It was 87 at 9:00 PM last night. That is HOT HOT for us mountain folks here in WY.

Yes, but its a DRY heat, Scott!!!! ;) Today its overcast, so its "only" 85 at 7pm...it was 85 at 830p and 830a in the last 24 hours.....and tooooo dry. Hope the Colorado wildfires get some moisture and they don't start up here!!!

I'm finding out I went back to work too early....way too much work per person lately, plus the TYPE A work personality kicks in when I walk through the door....my knee is swollen today, and I feel like I did before surgery....now my Doc says to stay home tomorrow, and wants me to work half days for a week........yeah, right....that creates SO many other problems....my boss is NOT thrilled....and really, neither am I, but we haven't found out what "light duty" is for us techs....it's always moremoremore, whatever you've done today, do more tomorrow.....

Maybe I can find a nice lounge chair and a tall cool one tomorrow and reminisce about a better day...put Jimmy on the stereo...and that Castaway Cay CD....yeah, I can do this......

Kay- you are right. We did travel with a special group. Robb and I have both voiced concerns that we will feel let down with future cruises....we will all have to try to cruise again.

It also makes me sad that there aren't more people posting. I am tempted to go back to the older pages and start PMing everyone and tell them to come back!!!

Celeste, I'm here! I usually am reading on the run. My life has been a bit crazy since I got back and have been reeling so much that I can't stay focused.

I booked the October cruise with the other's! How about you guys? :goodvibes

As supporters of the marathon team, I am trying to plan our trip to WDW in January. Andy is thinking that he might like to to the Richard Petty race thing. :moped: I wanted to know if anyone has done it? Was it worth the money? Any thoughts about this would be apprecaite.

Thanks - Charlene

Kelli,

I understand about bosses wanting more out of you, but you only have one body, so take care of your knee as long as you can. It's no fun when it takes so long to get better. Your idea of the music and remembering wonderful days is a great one!

Renae

Thank goodness it it Friday!!! I may be sending some equipment to Texas in preparation of Emily. We shall see where she goes!

I did see that some of the outer bands may have brushed by Curacao. Hope all is well there.
