Ok. I know this is heresy given the fashion of the day. I'm a utilitarian type. Example, photo book collection = labelled manila folders in the filing cabinet's bottom drawer. So, forgive if I mash on toes. :worship:
But, can someone please tell me what is this fascination with Scrapbooking?
I'm not completely devoid of understanding various hobby crafts: Quilting, I've done and enjoyed it. Needlework, crewel, needlepoint, lacemaking, candlwicking, beading and jewelry crafting, I understand. Knitting, crocheting, I get. Papermaking and cardmaking, even soap and candlemaking, I understand. But so many of my friends have joined the craze spending oodles and gobs of money on something beyone me. Isn't it paying lots of money for paper and glue and ribbons and multi-colored bits of this and that cut-up by scissors with funny diecut edges or inked with rubber stamps? What makes it so much fun? :magnify:

You know... I've never scrapbooked before, but what I'm looking forward to is being creative. Each one of us has so many gifts inside of us, and we receive JOY in so many ways. That's why it's great that there are so many avenues we can use to express our creativity.

I could never have the patience to make a quilt, or crochet a project, but scrapbooking can be done one page at a time, and be complete!

To play will colors, shapes, designs, and see them on paper, coupled with pictures of special places or loved ones :lovestruc just gives me such release. Yes, it can be investing in paper, and funny scissors... or just tearing newspaper and using what you have on hand. I think it's the joy of capturing a memory and "freezing it" for others to see too that scrapbookers enjoy so much.

I'm glad you asked the question... that way I got to think about it!

CAN'T WAIT 'TIL WE GET TO THE BLINKIE FLIPPIE FLOPPIE PAGES!!!

What about gratuities?
We'll make it easy. It is customary to give gratuities in recognition of service, which you will most likely be treated to in abundance aboard the ship. As a guideline, may we suggest the following:

Per Guest per cruise 3-Night 4-Night 7-Night
Dining Room Server 11.00 14.75 25.75
Dining Room Asst. Server 8.00 10.75 18.75
Dining Room Head Server 2.75 3.75 6.50
Stateroom Host/Hostess 10.75 14.50 25.25
Dining Manager Your Discretion
Room Service Your Discretion

For your convenience, a 15% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine, and deck service tabs. All gratuities can be charged to your room charge.
At the Walt Disney World® Resort, 15% is the customary gratuity at restaurants and bars.

So that would be Double the 7 Day or $152.50

:cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:

Not sure if some has posted this or not (you guys have been a very chatting bunch - it's a good thing they don't let us have the internet at our desk - I'd get no work done!!!) but you are correct, according to our cruise documents the suggested tips for the 14 day cruise are

Dining Room Server 51.50
Dining Room Asst. Server 37.50
Dining Room Head Server 13.00
Stateroom Host/Hostess 50.50
Room Service Your Discretion

Steve posted this question several days ago, but I'm just double-checking. Has anyone heard from DVC Minnie about linking our dining reservations? Steve said he wasn't linked. I just called DCL, and I'm not linked either. I'm going to link up with Steve at a table for 8-10 people in the next day or two if I don't hear anything.

I wanted to dine with ALL the DISers, but if that's not going to happen, I'll be happy to dine with 8-10 DISers. :flower:

Count us in too. I just called DCL and apparently we are not linked up with anyone so if you've got room for 2 more My Mom & would love to join you guys!!!!

Let me know. I'll also send you both a PM.

Oh I could just Hug you!!!! Now that makes sense... Something you can play with and finish in one seating. Yeah, you know, I play with computer graphics that way when I make slideshows. Cool. Now I get it. Thank you Thank you! :goodvibes

I'd like to chime in on scrapbooking too. As one of the few guys that seems to do it (the women working at the scrapbooking stores seem shocked), I like it for a few reasons. First is that it is quality time I can spend with my wife that doesn't involve zoning out in front of the TV. We have a long table setup in one of our rooms so we can work together.

I love getting to re-live our wonderful trips and experiences we've had by looking through all the pictures and organizing fun pages out of them.

It is also a creative outlet. Ever since I got into computers 10+ years ago, I haven't really done anything creative and I feel like I've lost that side of me. Scrapbooking is something that doesn't take a great deal of talent (although the more you have, the more impressive the pages can be) but is still easy to produce something that looks good.

Amy you are a lucky woman!! I cut and pasted Steve's post to show to my DH... this is something we can do together... I think I'm going to bring him to the scrapbooking class!! He is probably more creative than I am as he does powerpoint etc all the time for class presentations etc. Meanwhile.. I have purchased tons of scrapbooking stuff and have done a total of 3 pages in about 4 years..... I love to look at other peoples books though and dream about how nice mine would look if I would just DO IT! :rotfl:

Okay, headed to dance studio to pick up Jamie and take her to rehearsal for a singing thing she is doing Sat. night for United Way down at the Grand America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake (next door to Little America, for those wondering).

I'm wondering if I am going to be sick tomorrow. I just have such a long list of things to do. I need an emotional sick day off to make my list!!

My machine bookmarks by itself. When I refresh it takes me to the last post that I have read. I think my computer guy set it that way. Don't ask me how..... :confused3

BUT - my machine does not show a page number anywhere - either at the top or at the bottom. All I can see if the number post on the far left hand side of my page.

Is there somewhere else I should look for the page number??

We are on main sitting. (Early)

Is there anyone on main that has not been paired up with anyone yet??

A table of 8 or so would be great.

I'll call and try to coordinate, if you want.

I think I would need your reservation number. I think that is how they would put us together.

Let me know

Steve I can't wait to meet you and Amy (and hopefully be dining with you). I LOVE scrapbooking. Half of our rec room is dedicated to scrapbooking. Last year I bought 2 new desks and some cabinets to store all my scrapbook supplies. I just love re-living our vacations. I am even keeping a scrapbook for my office. They all hate that I show up at every event with a camera but love to look at my scrapbook and see how I've captured the moments.

My brother also likes to scrapbook - but he is too much of a perfectionist and is always thinking there will be better sitckers, paper etc. so he gets hardley any pages done.

Now for the wetsuit dilemma... I will try getting it wet and putting it on.... maybe in the shower...:rotfl2: Do they EXPAND when they get wet??

Leslie

Don't try to put it on wet. I was kidding. There is nothing worse in this world then putting on a cold and wet wetsuit.

Excellent reasons, Steve. How lovely that you take the time to share "memory-time" with your beloved. Sounds like youre a keeper!

I got into computer stuff in the mid-80s & I know what you mean about creative side. I worked on a few interesting projects and even got to be a contributing editor on an in-depth Corp Flash presentation. Those opportunities are rare. Tech writing is as dry as toast ... guess that's why I used to draw silly pics on all the whiteboards. LOL

Okay, so I don’t plan my vacation to the detail as most of you, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to be prepared. So I decided the girls would feel like part of the DIS family if they had the official foot wear.

I went to Wal-Mart this afternoon, and I had no idea if I should be looking near swimwear or footwear :confused3. I asked an employee and she directed me to the Shoes Department. Wow! Big Shoe Department and it seemed 75% of it was sandals and flip-flops :eek:. So I asked the shoe department employee lady who (unknown to me) spoke maybe five words of English;

“Where are the blinkie flippie floppie thingies?”..., and I got back a classic deer-in-the-headlights look.

Oookay! “Do you have flip-flops with lights?”, “Yaes, sleppers har with nihtwear”.

Oookay! “Thank-you, I’ll just look around here for awhile”.

So now I’m looking down rows and rows (think warehouse in Indiana Jones) of shoes, flip-flops, and sandals, and none of them are blinking :headache:. I started reading boxes for “Blinkie Flippie Floppie Thingies” :magnify: , but no luck. The sales lady saw me hunting and must have realized we had a communication problem. She took that extra step in positive customer service :sunny: and returned with one of her associates to see if she could assist and soon I was in front of scores of Blinkie Flippie Floppie Thingies (not actually blinking, and completely miss-labeled).

So now we’ll fit in a little more with our friends of the DIS family onboard even though we will not have DIS tattoos or have our bodies painted lime green (which I think is where this group is heading if there was anymore time to plan things before the cruise).

Kay the page number shows up for me at the bottom of the DIS page just below the last post and below the Quick Reply box.

Hi Georgie

I just sent Steve (Airtime247) a PM and hopefully will be linked with Steve & Amy and another couple (sorry - I'm at a loss for the name).

Maybe send Steve a PM.

Oh gee THANKS Ken.... :rotfl: :rotfl: What the heck do I know!!
That's it.... it is going on Ebay. No way I am gonna struggle with this thing. It was only $20 so no big loss. It's a shame though because it's a really nice one as far as I can tell. I guess I can survive without it.. If I show up at Serenity Bay with leggings and a long sleeve T-shirt under my swimsuit you'll know why.... LINDA... KODAK MOMENT!:rotfl::rotfl:

I am subscribed to the thread. When I come to DIS I just click on User CP at the top... click on the little arrow thingy and it goes to right where I last read.

Hope that helps
