20050511-Epcot DIS Meet-May 11, 4pm, Canada!

I always bring those cheap, folded, rain ponchos. They are very small, wallet size. And then I can just use it the rest of the day or throw it away. I'll probably just use the disposable poncho to cover my scooter if I get caught out in the rain, if I can't find cover.

Speaking of cover, there isn't much in the Canada area, unless you walk up the stairs into the stores, or walk around to the Le Cellier restaruant side and the cover of the movie exit or entrance.

On the other side, Britian pavilion has the Rose and Crown Pub or the shops across from them.

If they still have those sun umbrellas near the seats, you could stand there until the rain stops. That is why I park behind the last row, sometimes.

Walmart, Target, K-Mart all sell those $1.00 or less disposable ponchos that are folded up into a wallet size that can fit into your pocket or waist pack. Look on the package for the poncho that has the thickest plastic listed in milimeters (ml). if they have more than one brand. Some are slightly thicker than others, and the thicker the better even though they look like the same size.

Otherwise, I think that it is a good question to think about.

I will still be there. Probably on the right side, behind the last bench, under one of the patio umbrellas if they are open.

No rain would be great though.

Hmmm, rain, good question. I suppose we could decide on an alternate location in case of that. But, I know we all have different ideas of "rain" as far as how heavy and all...I don't want to end up with some people going to the Canada stage and others the alternate location. KWIM?

We could always meet there regardless of rain or shine, then decide together if we need to get indoors, then walk to another predecided location. Maybe inside Innoventions or something...where there is a decent amount of open space indoors?? That way, those of us who are there right at 4pm, will all walk over there together. And if you show up later than that and no one is there, you'll know where we went.

I don't know, just brainstorming here...I am all ears to any thoughts you guys might have! :earsgirl:

Hey, does anyone know if Off Kilter still plays when it's raining?

I think you're right, Liz...it could get awfully confusing if we start making alternative rain plans, so the simplest thing would be to keep the meet at the time and place we've set, then we can always move to drier ground if we think we need to.

And yes, Off Kilter does play in the rain. I've watched a couple of their shows while standing under my Mickey umbrella! :umbrella: I'm sure they'd have to cancel if the rain got too bad, but with no rain predicted that week, I'd be surprised if it rained hard enough to stop the show.

Ray, it was very nice of you to offer to take individual pictures. I think I will take you up on that...I'd love to have a picture with the Off Kilter guys. :)

This is going to be a lot of fun. I can tell already that we've got some really nice people that'll be showing up. I can't wait to meet you all! :goodvibes

Looking forward to this meet! Just had a great DIS meet in Boston the other night, so I'm looking forward to hanging out with others!

I have yet to meet a DISer I didn't like :)

Hi, twinsmom&dad.
I'll be going to MK earlier in the morning to try and see if there is a standby line in the Regis and Kelly TV show. I wanted to wear the DIS lime green t-shirt and see if anyone sees me on TV. I'll be in a scooter.

Then I was going to go to Epcot for the DIS meet. I'll probably get there early around 3:00 P.M., rain or shine.

About being shy. I think that more than 50% of all DISers are shy to meet up for the first time, and that is O.K.. DISers have been known to lurk on the DISboards and at DIS meets, too, because of shyness.

There is nothing wrong with that. I was shy for my first couple of DISmeets, too. Afterall, I was meeting with people that I have never met before in person.

And here I was going to a DISmeet of complete strangers.

But there is a small difference.

We all love everything Disney.

We all lurk and read and post on the DISboards to learn about Disney stuff.

So we have those things in common and talk about Disney when we meet. About where we were that day at Disney. Where we ate at Disney. What we did that morning at Disney. Just everything Disney.

And I have found that most DIS meets consist a lot of laughter and smiles and talking all at the same time.

And this all from a bunch of strangers that have never met each other before.

So, if you aren't to sure about participating in the DIS meet, you can always hang back a distance and scope us out and see if we are a safe bunch to meet up with...lol.

I would love to meet you and say hello.

There was a thread a couple of years ago when we were all going to the first DIS CONvention about being shy. Almost everyone going said that they were shy. I'll see if I can do a search for that thread.

I hope to see everyone, rain or shine.

Sincerely, Ray

Strangest thing happend today. I had my Off Kilter up so loud it was shaking the windows. pirate: When my parents say were going out to dinner. They had been out shopping early and told me they had a surprise for me. I get in the car and in the back is a shopping bag. I look in and what do I see? Three lime green t-shirts. :teeth: I have to be the only 17 year old who gets excited over lime green t-shirts that I know. :hyper:

Hi guys! I'm so happy to see more of you will be joining us! And I hope those of you not sure will be able to make it. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I will definitely have atleast a couple of us wearing lime green. I know my dh and my 5 yr old both have solid lime green t-shirts, so I'll have them wear those. I have to check my closet and see if I have any lime green tops. I will have lime green bandanas wrapped around each of our stroller handles too.

We will be there at 3:30 to watch Off Kilter, so come sit with us if you see us. Here's the Off Kilter website in case anyone doesn't know who they are: http://www.offkilter.net
If you get there before the show ends...just follow the sound of the bagpipes... :hyper: :rockband: :hyper:

11 days till our meet!! :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1:

Thanks for the link! I just pm'd you back. DH loves music, and I'll let him look at the site. We weren't familiar with the band. Maybe then he will be interested in rearranging our plans so we can meet and listen!!!! ;)

DH & I will be at WDW from May 7 - 12th. Staying at the Wilderness Cabins. We have not stayed in the cabins yet but needed a cheaper alternative for my Nephew & his SO. Hope to see some of you on the 11th.
Penny

8 days till our meet!! :flower: :sunny: :flower:

Kaycee-Do you think we should set up an alternate location now though, just in case we end up going there and then if someone comes late they'll know where we went? What are your thoughts?

twinsmom&dad-Most of us have never been to a DIS Meet before, I sure haven't, so we'll all be new to this together! :grouphug:

poohkie-LOL Yep, I think that makes it pretty clear...you are a true blue (or lime green I should say) DISer!!! ::yes:: :teeth:

fanofdisney-Maybe you can switch things around... :teeth:

chaoscent-Hope to see you there!! :wizard:

I like your new picture Liznboys :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

I'm hoping to get a good family one taken while we are there so I post that to my signature.

How about if we say to check in Canada first regardless of the weather, and if you don't see us then go to...whatever alternate location we decide. I don't spend a lot of time in Innoventions, so I'm not sure where the more open spaces are. Does anyone know?

What about the ground level of the Land on the side near the Garden Grill for an alternative meeting place in case of rain? It would be a lot easier to find each other than Innoventions. It's relatively close to Canada.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. :)

We spent time in Innoventions in Feb., and there seems to be lots of space, plenty for a group our size to meet. But does anyone know of any other indoor (or atleast covered) areas, maybe near Canada that we could go to?

If we decide on Innoventions, this is what I'm thinking... Innoventions WEST has a firetruck on display near one of the doors (someone correct me if I'm wrong!). We could go there if it rains.

But yes, we will meet at the stage in Canada FIRST, regardless of the weather, then proceed to the alternate location if it's rainy.

hey Karen, I didn't see your reply before I posted. :)

That would be fine with me! I am fine with going anywhere. Easy is good!! I haven't been in the Land since it reopened, as long as it's easy to find!

Obviously, we probably won't need to go inside as it's going to be sunny for us that day anyway!! :sunny: :wizard:

Hey, Karen! That was exactly my thought! BTW: It's NOT going to rain, but *just in case*!!! ;)

Laura

Excellent idea, Karen! So...the ground level of The Land pavilion, just in case. Not that we're going to need it...we should have tons of sunshine for a great DIS meet! :sunny:

So, the Land it is in case of rain. As long as everyone walks in the doors and goes to the left, they'll be fine. Just don't go down the escalators until everyone is there :)
