I worked in a Pediatric ICU. My dh worked in a Pediatric ER. The kids with parents like this always seem like they are supernaturally protected. The bad stuff always seemed to happen to the kids whose parents were RIGHT there and involved when it happened.

Like the kids who used to live across the street. The 18 month old and the 5 yr old spent ALL day outside WITHOUT supervision. By a somewhat busy street, with an inground pool, climbing trees, playing with yard tools....but nothing ever seemed to happen to them. Yet if I gave up my hypervigilance I'm sure something bad would happen!

I must tell you about the rugrats who used to live across the street.

Soon after they moved in, the mom comes over and asks me "how do you keep your kids in your yard?" So I tell her that, since they are young--almost 5 and 2--they don't go outside without me, and they know the boundaries in the yard and if they can't see me, that means I can't see them.

The mom, acting disgusted says "UGH, I moved out to the country so I could have more land and didn't HAVE to be outside with these KIDS all the time!"

This is a woman who would let her kids play in my yard and then bring HER TWO KIDS a popsicle....while my two kids had none!! Ok, if you only have two popsicles, call your kids home and let them have them THERE, NOT in front of my kids.

I could get this thread to #15,000 with stories of them!

Just was looking back at the Flat Coated Retriever Society of America website to refresh myself on WHY in the world I wanted a FCR....

WHY has no one submitted pictures of their dogs next to the cabinets they've chewed up, or near the wainscoating they've dug at?????? Where are the REAL pictures? I feel bamboozled!

Believe me, I stopped laughing over 2 months ago!

I emailed a friend I haven't talked with in awhile and I said this:

On August 6th we picked up Maggie from the breeder.
By August 7th I wanted to take her back.
By August 8th I wanted to kill her!


I NEED this vacation! If I'm trying to dig into the woodwork on the Magic and it appears I don't want to get off on 12/28, chances are good that it's just that I don't want to come home to the beast!

I am a sucker for those big puppy eyes too....I cannot get near a pet store..

I'm off to bed too. I didn't do nearly as much today as the rest of you....but I'm still old and tired.
I have my liability audit in the morning, bright and early. Hoping all goes well and he's in and out in 2 hours.......
