Yup. I have. I've talked at great length with the trainer (who is awesome and, like I said, wouldn't recommend it unless every other avenue has been exhausted.) I've emailed the breeder, but haven't heard back.

Have you tried the Citronella collar? Our trainer told us "don't waste your money on them." The static collar doesn't electrocute them, by any stretch, just a static shock like from a carpet rub. If I thought in any way it was HURTING her, I wouldn't use it. Many websites talk about them as safe, humane training tools. In fact, I personally, think having an untrained, unruly dog is less humane than a dog who can intreract with the family and follow the rules.

I found this website particularly helpful to alleviate my fears about doing something cruel:

OM, did you try Bitter Apple?

I have bitter apple, but I'm not sure how it would help in this situation. I do use it on the woodwork and the tops of the gates and anything else she's not supposed to chew. This is just jumping up on things and people. So her paws touch the surface, not her mouth. The trainer has told me not to spray it AT her (only use water) b/c if it gets in their eyes it can cause damage and that's ALL I need is an unruly, blind dog!

We have crate trained Maggie, and that's going well. I also have read that you shouldn't use it for punishment and I haven't used it for the jumping, but she gets sassy/growly/bitey at times and comes at me like a wild animal. When it gets to that point (and I am unable to redirect her to APPROPRIATE play) she gets put in her crate. Sort of like a 2 yr old's time out. When she settles and lays down for a rest, I know she's calm enough to come out and I open the door back up.

We just have to get this jumping up under control. She's jumping on the kids and they scream bloody murder. She's over 35 pounds now and is as tall as them on her back legs. At first I was getting on the kids "You can't scream and yell when she jumps on you, she thinks you're playing like a littermate" but I thought about it and if an animal as tall as me (on it's back legs) jumped on me, I would scream too!!!

Mary,

I'll PM our reservation # so we can be linked to others on early dining --- I don't care how large the table is ---- the more the merrier!!!

Stacy -- is a tumbler considered a wine glass --- I know they work for the Boone's Farm! Also, when is the wine party and is it open to all?

I never heard about the eye demage stuff. I always spray it in their mouths when they do something bad. Usually 1 application is enough -- they HATE the taste. I don't see a problem with that.

Yeah, me neither. I'd try it if she'd open her mouth, but she jumps up and just looks at you with a look like "I DARE you to get me down." or she gives you the look of "I'm a person too and I have EVERY right to be here"

I'm being outsmarted by a dog. :earseek:

And I thought I was a softie...I just force open her mouth (gently but firmly) and spray it in.

Karen, when we had a lab, we used his ear as a negative reinforcement. We were training him as a bird dog, and DH was teaching him to not bite down on the item he retrieved. What he did was keep one hand on his ear, and if the dog didn't follow instructions, he pinched the ear. It wasn't hard, and never left a mark, but the dog yipped, and he stopped what he was doing wrong.

As far as the wine party, I'm interested, but it depends on my husband. I don't want him to feel left out, and he won't come to the party. Last time, I popped in for a bit while he and DS were at a movie and DD was getting her hair braided. I still haven't decided if I'm bringing any wine along. I saw a couple of bottles over near us that are actually from our area, so I might pick up a few to bring. So I'm a maybe? and it would just be one.

As far as bringing your glass, I figured I'd either bring a water glass from the room, or ask one of the bartenders for a clean glass. I'm sure they'd give you one.

I guess we need to hear from someone who is familiar with the veranda outside Stacey's suite. It's large, but does it have extra furniture, tables etc? Going to be tough to put much wine on one table. And how many chairs? About how many people would be comfortable out there? 10? 20? I know there's at least that many planning to go. Maybe I should start a list like Garry's and Mary's. Good job on picking a day, Stacey!

OK, here's a start:

You get the idea, and I'm sorry my memory is so lousy. I know more of you have talked about it. Just copy it and add your name. The next person can copy that.

Speaking of which (memory), there are some advantages to having poor short term memory. I have seen the Christmas parade at MK three times, and it has seemed different to me each time. Karen says it's always the same! See? It's more fun when it's "new".

Jim (Scuba Diver) just called and wanted me to let everyone (especially Tinksdad) know that he had an excellent dive trip in California. The dry suit worked great and after his adventure he said he now has some new ideas for his next dive trip. He said he would post what his idea was when he returned (I shudder to think where next he will think he needs to travel). I thought his next dive trip was on the cruise, so. . . . I am curious to find out what he is thinking.
I emailed him this morning asking how things went. Obviously he is not back yet.

I LOVE the colder waters of California. If you have a drysuit or heavy wetsuit, it's not bad at all, plus the sea life, kelp and just everything together is quite magical!

There was mention of the Pacific Northwest......... wonder if that is before or after Saba?

Diana - count us in for the wine party. We don't drink, but Mark and I will come and socialize. :D

Ok - don't mean to sound like a whiner (although I know I already do), but there is no way I can coordinate early dining. So we can all take our chances or someone else can take it on and try and coordinate and I'll be happy to pass the list on. There is just so much going on and I honestly can't take on one more thing. Between the newsleters, buttons and mini naviagator I've pushed myself pretty far. Don't get me wrong I'm more than happy to do those and I'm the one who thought them up.

I just agreed to take over early dining when I thought it was just a matter of updating the list and passing it on.

Sorry but that's it :( I can't tell you how stressed I am about this right now and I just can't take any more stress. So if it means that Mark and I eat with strangers so be it.

Sorry guys I don't know what else to say. I shouldn't even be on here now as I have a full time job but just had to get this off my chest so I could get back to work.

Mary - you've done and are doing so much - you shouldn't worry about this in the least.

We're late dinner - so I can't help......

Here's hoping somebody else steps up and helps out!

Okay, there's something else I hadn't thought of...glasses....
Other than the drinking glass that may or may not be in our rooms...I have no idea....
I wonder what the bartenders would say about 50 wine glasses disappearing all at once??
And imagine what my room steward will think when he/she sees all the empty glasses and bottles!!:earseek: :earseek: ROFLOL

Patty...everyone on this board is most certainly welcome. That's why we are getting a count...to see if there will be enough room on my balcony...??...never been in that room, so I don't know.
We were thinking about the first sea day (Monday) at around 4 pm...kind of an "Open House" type arrangement.
So far, since we don't know what DCL has planned, we're just getting ideas as far as date & time.....nothing etched in stone yet.

Mary.....you are the Queen.....you are doing so much already, no one is going to mind in the least, since this is a huge burden. I'm on the late dining, too.....sorry.
All of the late diners are linked together, by the way. My TA thought that was hysterical that I had so many people linked to my reservation!!!

Ohminnie....did you use the dog collar on yourself yet? We did....it's just a little zzzzzztttt...... I think they are only bad if they are misused....and I agree 100%....an ill-behaved animal is much worse than a week or two of zzzzzttttt.........

Jared's special-order (tall/skinny) tux pants came today. He's not home yet to try them on, but they look perfect!! Hallelujah!!

Ahh...the evening running is about to begin......

I will be back later.

Thanks! Sounds great to me --- Count us in for 2, DH doesn't drink but he'll come along. Is everyone bringing wine? I could bring some local Missouri wine --- believe it or not we have some pretty good wines made here locally.

Stacey--- I'll be running tonight too --- somehow or another I forgot I was supposed to put a deposit down for DD's birthday party! I knew I needed to go over there (pottery place) and pick out the paint they'll use but I forgot all about the money part! Anyway they called today to see if we were still coming --- glad they called before cancelling us or I'd be in deep doodoo:eek:

OM - Maybe we can try them out on KT and Lar!!:o

I have the feeling that by the end of the cruise - we're gonna need something.....

It's large - and has extra tables and chairs.... When we were in 8600 - we couldn've easily fit 10 people on the veranda.... and 8602 is twice as big - it's also right next to the deck 8 overlook - which has lounge chairs, etc....

I'm sure that we can get the wine glasses without too much trouble.....
