We are OKW and BCV owners, and we love them both. Staying at OKW after the cruise for three nights, but we're on the waiting list for SSR. We'd like to try it out.

Mary, we plan to see Illuminations on the 28th too. Wonder if we can find a spot together? We're doing the first CP show, then eating dinner at Garden Grille. Alicia and I found the best spot last August for watching, right on the water at Japan, but I'm sure it will be packed that night! We had it to ourselves the second week in August. Anyone else?

How many people are planning on attending the wine party? I think we need to get a head count. Stacey's veranda might be too small, we might want to consider using the back area on Deck 7. Should I offer to coordinate this? People could PM me that they're coming, no biggie. You don't even have to tell me what you're planning to bring. I think people will need to bring their own wine glasses, along with their wine and cheese!

Jim (Scuba Diver) just called and wanted me to let everyone (especially Tinksdad) know that he had an excellent dive trip in California. The dry suit worked great and after his adventure he said he now has some new ideas for his next dive trip. He said he would post what his idea was when he returned (I shudder to think where next he will think he needs to travel). I thought his next dive trip was on the cruise, so. . . . I am curious to find out what he is thinking.

Sharon, I think we should start a pool on this. I'll take Alaska.

Ok, I'm in. I'll say Ohio!

DIS MEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone out there with dogs ever use one of those training collars? You know the ones that give them a static shock....

opinions?

Edited to clarify:
Maggie is up on EVERYTHING. She thinks she's two legged. Up on the counters, on the table, on the gates, on people. We have tried everything that has been suggested (all the "nice" ways) like ignoring her when she's up and only petting or praising when she's down--squirting her with water (she LOVES that)--telling her "off"--putting the knee up so she hits that--pushing her down--keeping a leash attached and pulling down on that--shaking a can of pennies by her--using upside down pot lids on the table so they clatter to the floor when she hits them--you name it, we've tried it. Spoke to the trainer who said 99% of the time she looks for other options but, knowing Maggie, this is an option. We bought one, it has a 30 day refund policy. Put it on today and let her wear it for awhile to let her get used to the feel of it. Later, when she was jumping up on the gate, I zinged her (for lack of a better term) She didn't feel it....no response. So I went up one level and zinged her again and her head went back and she jumped down. Figuring that was too much of a response I went back down on the level. After that I've given her the tone/zing and she's gotten right down. Then when she got up, I just did the tone and she associated that with zing so she got down, but then she was acting weird. Shy. Quiet. Weird. Wouldn't come anywhere near the gate. We had to go in and give her lots and lots and lots of love to get her to warm up again. Since then she has just been so quiet and veged out. I did take her for a long walk, and she acted fine, but came home and is taking a nap. Now I don't know if I should keep this up (it's on the lowest level which they say is like a static shock you get from rubbing your feet on the carpet) or give it up. But honestly, I cannot stand a dog cruising the counters while I'm trying to cook or prepare food.

Is this just the reaction I'm getting as she gets used to it. I HAVE noticed this afternoon that she's jumping up less. Or 1/2 jumping up and then going back down as she thinks better of it.

Ideas? Am I a terrible mom? I've made mistakes with my kids as I've raised them that haunt me in a "bad mom" kinda way, but when you don't know any better and aren't sure where to go, it's frustrating. Since I've tried everything with this dog, I'm not sure of any other choice that will work for independant, dominant pup.
(sigh)

I'm in - I'll say Australia :fish: :fish: :fish:

Hi everyone,

Never used a training collar on any of our dogs.

Tell me how I did. I just ordered 5 tickets to MVMCP for Friday the 17th. I also booked a room (through a TA)at the polynesian. I asked for something closest to the park entrance, and this is what she suggested. Did I do the right thing? I've never been there before.

Judy

Sounds like you did fine! That's what we're doing. We had ressies at the Polynesian in 2001 but just two weeks before our scheduled trip we bought into DVC. There was an opening at OKW for a two bedroom (more comfortable for 5 ppl) and we switched. Our kids have been begging us to stay at the Polynesian since then. We figured this would be a good time to stay b/c it's on the monorail line and will be easy to get to from MVMCP. Since MVMCP is over at midnight and my kids will not want to leave a second earlier, we'll save precious time by taking the monorail.

What the kids don't realize is that we're staying at the Polynesian but it will be for about 8 hours!! We'll be out first thing in the morning to get to the port!

Thanks, that makes me feel better that someone likes it. I haven't been to WDW since 1988 and then we stayed outside the park. When the TA told me about the monorail, I thought that it would be quick and easy trip back to the room. She had me at Port Orleans Resort at first but said we would have to take a bus that stops at the other hotels and it would take longer. After driving all day, we wanted something close. Let me know if there is anything else that I need to know about the resort or MVMCP.

Judy

Mary you beat me to the punch.

Australia----I'm in. That's worth going to get certified for!!!!
The closest I've come to certifying is taking a beginning class in the swimming pool in Hawaii. It was fun, but I was a little nervous.

DH is certified, and DD (12) did the pool thing and then went with the instructor and DH and did a beginning dive off the shore over in Maui at one of the reefs. She loved it and wants to certify. I've been putting her off.

Just popped in for lunch!

Judy....you will LOVE the Polynesian. Right on the monorail, and I love the ambience.

Dive trip??? Arizona! Bartlett Lake is just up the road from me....

Ohminnie, we used the collars on the two Aussie pups. Didn't seem to faze "Mr. Big" at all...but worked well on the female. We used it to curtail Molly's incessant barking also. But I just said the other night, I need to put it back on her. She has fallen back on her old "bark at everything that moves" tricks. I probably will not even turn it on...I think just putting it on her will work.
We tested them on ourselves, because I would never want to hurt the dogs....they aren't that bad. It really is just a gentle reminder, and it did get their attention.

Diana may very well have a good point about the wine party. Is there a way to get a head count? I got to thinking about it after I read what she wrote.....I do have a surprise or two, but I can still work my surprises in a different location, if we think we are going to need more room.

Back to work......

Thanks for the advice on the collar.

I'm in for a wine party, but I have a stupid question....how can we bring our own wine glass??

Heads Up....

Sears' Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) Sale will include 50% off 1-3' artificial trees. I'l try to get down there the week before and scope out what they have and let you know.

I've heard bad things about the shock collars (not flaming). I've read that the citronella ones are much better and more humane. Instead of shocking the dog they send a blast of citronella up their nose and I guess dogs don't like the smell. You might consider trying one of those. Have you talked to a trainer (or the breeder you got her from)? They may give you some kind of idea.

I've never actually tried any of the collars myself. I have a chihuahua who weighs 7 pounds, so even on his hind legs he can't get into much.

Urgent Dining!

I just got off the phone with Debbie and she can't do anything for us unless our reservation numbers are linked directely at DCL. So if you are in first seating dining and wanted to have tables near each other I need to have your reservation number.

If you had wanted a table for 4 and just be near us I think it would be easier if I gave you our number and you can link that way.

Linda - for your family I think it would be easier if you called it in yourself so you all get near each other, but I can give you ours to be in the same area.

LeiLani - this doesn't effect Palo this is only for the dinner rotation so Diana and Mary Ann I think this might effect you too.

Sorry guys - this is the first I'm hearing about this.

Need to get to work - more later!

edited to add - does anyone have some time to take over early dining? I'm swamped at work, no where caught up at home and just don't know if I can pull this off. Let me know if anyone can help. Thanks :D

signed - going crazy in Chicago

OM, did you try Bitter Apple? It worked wonders for me for both dogs, and it's humane. Also, because we crate trained both of them (and I know you're not supposed to use the crate as punishment), the couple of times when I didn't have the Bitter Apple handy and the lunatic pup cruised the table I put her in her crate right away. The combination seems to work.
