I haven't read the postings yet. I was in CPR training all day yesterday, then DD had a field trip to the Bowie Baysocks (local AA baseball team). What a day!
The CPR training ended up started a hour late because people kept coming in, and they kept re-starting. It was very frustrating! We finished adult/child CPR after 1:00, then did infant CPR until 3. I had to have First Aid to take the girl scouts on their trip, and I had told the instructors when I got there (on-time) that I had to leave at 3 for DD's trip. They were sure we could finish all but the AED by then, so when this big delay happened, they just let me take the test, and gave me my certificate.
Then we did the field trip. This was a reward for the most improved students. I'm not sure how many kids actually got the award, but about 30 of them came on the trip (6-8 grade). There was one teacher. About 8 of the kids had parents with them. I will NEVER let my child go on one of these without me with them. That teacher didn't have the unaccompanied kids sit together or anything. It was open seating at the game, and from the time the kids got there to the time they left, she didn't keep track of them at all. We didn't get home until 11 at night, and we left in the 7th inning.
And to make things worse, one of the mom's got extremely drunk. She was yelling out on the bus, being very inappropriate. I just can't imagine how her daughter felt. Once her daughter said "Mom, please stop saying that word." The mom proceeded to scream at her that she never wanted her daughter to embarrass her like that again. I went back to the teacher to see if this mom was going to be driving home. She said that she thought that there was a family friend on the trip who would take them home. When we got back to school, the mom yelled for her daughter to get up cause they had to get home. The bus driver asked where she lived, and she said "It's only 4 miles, we'll be fine". When I left, the teacher was trying to stop the mom from getting in her vehicle. It was just an awful experience.
Sorry for being such a bummer this morning, I just had to tell someone about it. My DH just kept saying that's why he doesn't like DD's school. Well, I'm not sure what the school could have done. They didn't spell out any rules, but I wouldn't have dreamed of drinking at a school function. Maybe if the students and parents had all been sitting together, when the lady got her first drink, the teacher could have explained that she shouldn't drink at a school function, and it would have been prevented? Do you all think I should contact the school to see if there are any policies about this?
Thanks guys! Lisa
