20040131 ~ Cruising Jan 31 2004 Western Who's with us?

Hey everyone,
I'm off to bed, have to go to work tomorrow to see what CC stuff we have for me to take with me on the cruise!
Have a good one and I'll talk when I get home,
Renae

Dear Esteemed Co-Chairs:

Might I humbly suggest that we meet before the safety drill. That way we will all know each other for the sail away party and can boogie down together as the Magic leaves the port...

I thought we could meet on Deck 4 outside of Studio Sea between 3:00 and 3:30 P.M., before the lifeboat drill. I'm going to try to get a DCL photographer there for a group picture. I'll also hand out the team bucket hats at that time. Anyone who can't make it should look for us wearing our hats and DIS shirts at the Sail-Away party. How does everyone feel about a gathering at either Diversions, Studio Sea or the Rockin' Bar D after 10:00 P.M. that night? That would be after the shows and dinner for both early and late seating.

I think a meet would be nice--but those of us who are sensitive to cigarette smoke typically stay away from Rockin-Bar-D. I find that I can't even play Bingo in there it is so bad from the previous night. Can we find a smoke-free meet area?

-- Jami

Hey you co-chair guys I;m hangin with you, and that goes pretty much for any body wearing Lime Gree or a speedo I hope I don't inadvertantly or mistakenly engage or hang with someone that isn't from our group. Arrrggghhh Eh! pirate: Randy

Jami,
You're the first person besides me who has said they have a problem with the smoke in Rockin' Bar D. I'm glad to hear that it's a problem for others, not because I wish that on anyone, just that it's good to know I'm not alone. On our cruise in May of '02 I did the decades dance parties in there and had to use my athsma inhaler every few minutes until I finally had to give up and stop dancing. That was a real problem for me. This last time in Oct. we did our dancing in the Promenade lounge and really had a good time.
The other place that has been a problem for me was deck 4. I'd love to go there and sit in a deck chair to read or just watch the ocean go by, but it seems like someone was always there smoking. I have nothing against smokers, I just want to enjoy the cruise without being in fear for my health.
The promenade lounge is smoke-free and so is Studio Sea, so they would be great places for our meet, in my humble opinion.
I'm looking forward to meeting you,
Renae:wave2:

Renae,

Frankly, I think there is way too much leeway is given to smoking based on how unhealthly it is for those who don't smoke. Almost all the adult areas permit smoking--even though less than 20% of adults smoke. One smoker makes a mess of a large area for everyone. Even NYC doesn't permit it in most public places. Disney really needs to get on board with this. Some of the Disney executives must be smokers.

Hi Everyone,

Good Morning! It is very early here in Michigan and cold once again! We went skiing yesterday and I'm sore!

The boys and I are heading down to Dearborn this morning for a Field Biology class. It's just under a 5 hour drive. Cap & Judi, you should join us, since you now have experience in this. :D :D :D We actually are going to spend a good deal of time outside today collecting samples of stuff to take back to the lab. We are going to look under microscopes to see just what lives out there in the winter. Next month we are going to tap maple trees I think and study all that goes along with that. The age group is 6-9 and the class is full! Oh boy!

I can't remember all the questions over the last few pages but I'll try.

Meeting - Before or after the safety drill sounds good to me. Studio Sea or Promenade Lounge sounds good. I'll do my best to be there. I anticipate losing all track of time once I walk on that ship!

Randy - Congrats on 1800! 2250 is our new goal? Wow!

Packing - I admit, I have been prepacking. I've never done that before. I usually wait until the last minute and then I'm up all night. I've packed my shoes, toiletries, and laid out what clothes I want to bring. I go by the stuff once/day or so and eliminate some things. I need to take my favorite "expandomatic" dress to the cleaners to have it cleaned and blocked. What is that you say? It is a knit dress that the cleaners can make bigger. And yes, I need it bigger since the last itme I wore it. I thought you could only go up a couple of sizes on this thing, and it's already been stretched that far.

Hope everyone has a good monday at work, on the road, at home, whereever their travels leads them today.

Juli

Passporter recommends www.travellite.com. It says that this is the same person that ownes Mouseplanet.com.

Well, the author takes 9 pieces of clothing excluding underthings and shoes for a 14 day trip. Her toiletries fit in a small zip lock, not including her first aid kit. She only takes a back pack and doesn't check any luggage. I'm in big trouble.

I have at least 30 pieces laid out right now and my toiletries get their very own piece of luggage. I usually carry that on b/c I hate it when stuff explodes or gets smashed in transit. I can put valuables in it for carry-on as well. I left the darn thing on an Avis shuttle bus once without any tag. I think they had to call a bomb squad out or something. Then I had to pay a great big fee for them to Fed Ex it to me. Maybe I should be looking into this baggie thing?

I used the over the door shoe holder for toiletries on the last DCL sailing we went on. It works very well. Haven't used it since, but found it and will bring it again. Don't know about the in closet shelf type one though. It does look like it gives you some more space in the closet.

We were going to drive down and lord knows what I'd be trying to bring then. We changed to flying a few weeks back and now I have to really cut down.

There is another site, an "Ultimate packing list" somewhere. Anyone have the link, or is that the one that was posted already.

Sorry to ramble. I have been offline for a day. It all comes gushing out!

Juli

Good morning!

Nice to see that our official beer-tender is up and has coffee on. Thanks, Juli. It is cold here this morning too. Cap, I think the dogs got the paper this morning,

We go along with Annie and my esteemed co-chair, Gary; pre-drill at Studio Sea and then have fun at sail away with a get together later, anywhere, for a nite cap.

Have a great day!

I NEED A VACATION!

Thanks for your kind e-mail Dean. I just was submerged (pun intended) in problems.

What a horrible weekend! Hey! I have an idea! Come on a cruise with us!! ;)

Here's where you get a nice big drink, put in a video from DCL (the vacation planning one) or watch the Travel Channel special if you taped it...and just drift away.

Picked up a Jessica McClintock long skirt and top for my daughter on a clearance rack today. She's thrilled. It's hard to find something that dressy for a 13 year ols. Most of the dresses are black or look like she should be hanging out on a street corner. Appalling! This has a navy blue skirt, ballet tu-tu material and a white and navy sort of chinese patterened top. Who says you can't be a princess for ever.

Oh wow! you just reminded me that I have a McClintock dress from Junior High that just might fit Kelsey now!! Headed to moms to get our luggage today, I'll look for it...otherwise mom has one for her (ah how nice to have a grandma who works at Macy's in the kids dept. *grin* Take advantage of it? Me?? Silly!)

good morning. asthma is bad to live with so sorry . i don't put anybody down for what they do or cant we learned a lot when jacob was born. about how things can hurt even if they are not ment to so i will be wherever if we can get their we fly in the day of so we may be late. i am varry shy so might not talk much but that does't mean i am stuck up just scared stiff. we don't drink but we will still party till the cows come home with you. have to sleep today so you all have fun. we will spend as much time with jacob as we can he has another opration to go thrugh in jun so this is for him. my dd got with child each time we went to disney in 1999 was jacob and in2001 it was hunter so maybe we will get another gift she says no but who knows:) i love disney it gave we my boys and makes me happy cheryl:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Good morning everyone.

Dean - thanks for the paper. The dogs didn't get it. They only go for food, things that might BE food (e.g. squirrels), or people that might BRING food (e.g. wag tail and lick the hand of UPS guy, cable guy). Now if you were delivering ice cream, I'd never see any of it. They would have it before it got to the porch.

3 PM Meet at Studio Sea is fine for me. A second get together at 10 PM is also great, and will let any who were late, had pool duty, or otherwise missed us at 3 PM, find the group. If it is not a smoking area, then DW Judi would also likely join, unless she's exhausted from the sail-away party.

Good Morning everyone!

I just got caught up on all the posts!

Barbara- I would love to run with you! We should set up a place to meet and run at. I did 8 miles here yesterday and it was about 19 degrees! It will be a lot nicer to run in warm weather & beautiful scenery!!!

So is the meeting place outside Studio Sea before the drill???

I packed on Saturday and I am almost done! I will still have to pack for DH and DS and unpack for DD when she overpacks!

I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!!
Dorie

If the Promenade Lounge is smoke-free, than I would go for the 10 PM meet being there. It's right next to the Internet Cafeso we could check our "final" thead post count.

I'm building my packing list. Since we are driving, I have three lists, north of Atlanta, south of Atlanta, and Cruise. We'll leave the north of Atlanta stuff, and much of the south of Atlanta, in the car while we cruise. We've got to be prepared for snow and real cold driving through the mountains.

Cheri, if you've already packed for Dean, then you have him real spoiled.

The dogs will get really nervous today when they see all the suitcases out.

Talk with you later, like, eh.
