20040131 ~ Cruising Jan 31 2004 Western Who's with us?

Hi Dean, the toque eh is a term, Eh, for attire, Eh, that is worn on ones head, Eh, during cold winter weather Eh, Arrrggghhh pirate: Randy

AGGHHH! I accidentally posted a new thread. Instead of a reply. This is a copy and paste.

Boy - you miss a day or 2 and you have to spend hours catching up. We have late seating for dinner.

Picked up a Jessica McClintock long skirt and top for my daughter on a clearance rack today. She's thrilled. It's hard to find something that dressy for a 13 year ols. Most of the dresses are black or look like she should be hanging out on a street corner. Appalling! This has a navy blue skirt, ballet tu-tu material and a white and navy sort of chinese patterened top. Who says you can't be a princess for ever.

I'm only on about page 110 catching up. We have no pets. My kids spend every other weekend with their dad and I take care of my 91 year old grandmother as well as work full time, so there's not a lot of time.

Back to my catch up reading. Welcome to to the new people - abusymommy and Gina.

It sounds like this afternoon was designated nap time... Randy and I did the same thing ... I also thought I read about microwavable pants - had to re-read it a few times... :teeth:
It looks like we have kicked butt against the 2nd place team (being the 10-day cruisers) with our posts... I don't think they will be able to catch us before the end of the month... but I guess their consolation prize is they get to go on a ten-day cruise (Karyn and Jill, I wish we were going with you....)

Cap, Dean, Gary and Randy - since all you need is your speedo, toque, and a couple of t-shirts, that should leave LOTS of room for Judi, Cheri, Gail and myself to bring our stuff...

;)

OK OK I caught up to the "where are you from questions". I was born in Indian Town Gap PA army hospital. Raised in Bethlehem, PA. Went to school for a couple years in California, PA and travel up the western portion of the state living in a bunch of little towns and eventually Erie (only about 6 months). Moved to a DC suburb about 20 years ago - job related. Moved back to PA, also job-related and ended up in King of Prussia. My kids are established in school and their father lives nearby, so I guess I'll be here another 5 years. THEN I'M WORKING ON A CRUISE SHIP TILL I RETIRE.

Boyfriend Jim was born and raised in Philadelphia and came to K of P for a job too. He was in the navy for 7 years so will have us all beat for sea legs.

Yes, Ann, I understand the process ... 1 suitcase for you, 2 for me, 1 more for you, 2 more for me. It's almost like the checkbook process. Judi says it is my job to put the money in the checking account and her job to take it out, and I better stay ahead of her. After 35 years, I'm trained.

I hope everybody had as restful of a weekend, as we did,, also hope everybody has a wonderful week ahead. Thanks again for a Fantastic party Karyn,, Gary , Cap ,Dean, I am not getting any streaks in my hair, the only streaking going on will be us guys streaking by in our speedos. EH!! Arrrggghhh EH! pirate: pirate:  :smooth: Randy

Barbara, it's nice to have you back among us sane folks after your stressful weekend. Just put your feet up, grab an umbrella drink and watch our team cheerleaders praise the talents of the speedo team.

Have you met Jilly-bean our cruise princess? She was our excuse for another party this past Saturday nite. We really surprised her.

Last weekend we happened to turn on QVC at the time they were closing their sale of travel bags. Looked like pretty neat little things so we ordered a set. They got here Friday and Cheri has been trying them out with packing our stuff.

Randy, eh, I'm honored to accept the honorary citizenship, eh, granted for Canada, eh. Eh, y'know it is truly an, well, an honor, eh? Oh, boy, eh, I hope I can live up to the standards, eh? See ya' real soon, eh?

Shannon,

We're sorry to hear about your problems at the Mall. Hope Monday is a much better day.

Let's see - lesson learned, don't do major software updates in the Winter??? No, that doesn't sound right. Perhaps, do version updates more frequently than every nine major releases?

I've just updated 4 PCs to the lastest software level this afternoon. I want everything to be spiffy when I'm gone, so there will be no issues. I'm trying to think of how to explain to the housesitter about the process of resetting the network if there is a power outage longer than the UPS supports.

Hope you have someone to back you up when you're on the cruise. Is the Mall sprinkler system a wet system then, rather than a dry system? At least the water flow alerts worked and told the alarm company / PD / Fire.

Dean, during the last week, you mentioned something about a press starting up. Stamping press? Clothing press? Printing press? Just curious.

Randy, I thought it was just the eastern Canadians that said -eh. Is it more universal, as the younger U.S. people say ... like ..., you-know, like ...?

I got a Lands End travel kit for my razor, toothpaste, meds, etc last Fall. It is about 10" long all folded up, but unfolds to several levels and hangs in the bathroom. Seems to work really well, with lots of space. Judi liked it so much she wants one. I think the concept is the same as the "hanging shoe organizer" that people suggest for cruises, except I can use it for any travel and it zips.

Team, we're now above 1800 posts. We have 11 - 12 active days to go. With questions / discussion about packing, travel, excursions, along with the usual between sex / country / age / formal dress harrassment (oops, I meant interchange), can we set a new higher goal of 2250 posts by sail-away?

What do you like, think, eh?

Dorie - I'll run with you. I run about 4 miles every weekend. Boyfriend Jim power walks. Kids watch tv. DS Conor (16) says he wants to workout to get in shape for lacrosse, but that's usually a last minute thing.

SO I guess none of the guys are getting their hair done for the cruise. With all thos speedos, I don't think anyone will be looking at your hair anyway. I've had highlights for 30 years. Now everyone's adding adding lowlights too. I had them added right before New Year's. I was going to wait till I came back for a touch up, but it sounds like everyone is spiffing up in advance.

Cap- I run a centralized printing plant where we run weekly newspapers for some of the other communities using web offset. We print 21 of these every week from about 5 AM on Monday until 10 AM on Wednesday. I employ 14 "full-time" people who work 22-28 hours a week. Most of these are farm wives who work to pick up some extra money and the health insurance that we offer them. It was a big change for me coming from Dallas, TX where there were 150+ working around the clock. But, it is going well. Moving here allowed both Cheri and me the chance to spend a little time with our parents who both just passed in this last year. So that made it special.

Yes Cap it's a wet sprinkler system. I've only had this job for a little over 3 months so I'm still learning lots. I do the accounting and manage the shopping center. The owner is FRUGAL to say the least, which explains the big lag in SW updates. Before I started, they didn't know how to use their voice mail or intercom either. Baby steps. We're doing a lot of remodeling to get ready for a new grocery store You name it and it's gone wrong, roofs and pipes leaking constantly. I don't know what it's like there, but our economy, especially the technology industry, took a beating. At this point, I'm grateful to have a job (somebody has to pay for this cruise!)

Boyfriend Jim just showed up so I have to go snuggle. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Dean, thanks for the update. I've not been a printing plant for 20 years.

It would be interesting to see how Disney puts together and prints the Navigators. I suspect they are mostly preformated, but they must print them on the ship, as they need to be able to make changes in case there is a last minute itinerary change or event change. Maybe you can use your job to get us a special backstage tour.

Hey Cap, We're still here!!! All is well, we just had a busy day!

Gail was born and raised here in Erie, Pa. I was born in Washington, D.C. but raised in Wyalusing, Pa., sister city to Armour, SD. We were also about 40 miles from anywhere.

Scott, that's the mother of all packing lists, all right!!!

We're definately in pre-packing mode, setting aside the clothe we want to take. Lets see, what am I going to take? Toque, black speedo, lime green DIS shirt, sandals.....I'm done!

Watch the Magic leave Key West!!!
How cool!! I didn't realize they would update the image as frequently as they did. That was neat watching it sail away. I kept looking back at the dock to see if I would see someone stumbling up who missed the ship.

Barbara -- sorry to hear about your troubles today. I hope tomorrow gets off to a better start!

Good night everyone!

Cap, it's good to know you have been so well trained... Randy is getting the hang of it... he realizes that we have "hers and hers" closets now and has adjusted...

"eh" is pretty much universal in Canada... but I have to say that kids here use "like" as every second word also... our daughter says "like" as much as "the"... when I was a kid we used to say "like totally" but they've dropped the "totally" from their lingo... thank goodness!!

We're in pre-packing mode, too! I just dug out the over the door shoe holder which is a lifesaver... Randy bought a tux the other day so I'm wondering if I need to pack his suit and tux and blazer or if I can skip the suit... what am I talking about, he's already packed (speedo, toque, sandals, bowtie from tux to go with the speedo...) Sounds like totally great, eh!!!

What did we settle on? Before or after the Safety Drill? And what's the verdict on the location? I think this has been established but I don't remember for sure myself.

Well, what ya' think, Gary? Discussion was tabled (no, that doesn't mean table dancing ladies) after the after drill suggestion.
