2004-01-31 Western Cruise Afterglow

HI Gang,
Just wanted to let you all know that I am on the mend and am feeling much better. It took exactly 7 days for the bug to clear my system but thank goodness it has passed.
I am sorry to hear that others were also ill after the trip with colds and the like.

Take Care everyone and I will look for you around on the DISboards!

Just got my digital photo prints in from SnapFish, and BOY am I impressed with the quality - I've never ordered prints from the digital photos before, and they are astoundingly clear - they even sharpened/adjusted a few of them to make some nice memories.

DH is getting worse rather than better in terms of his second degree burns - he can barely walk right now, but he's off to work anyhow, what a forgiving career he chose *sarcasm* :( I think I read that burns hurt horribly when they start to heal, but still....I hope he heals faster than this.

Half way thru our Feb. vacation for the kids, and so far so good! Of course, I've been at work. *wink*

Annette, glad to hear you are feeling better; that sounded awful. Speaking of awful -- Nikki, hope your DH heals soon. That really sounds painful. Hope the skin heals up without any complications.

Dean, thanks for posting that picture of Gary ;) , it's great!

Thanks for the tip on Snapfish. I am going to give them a try. I got my digital camera last fall. I ordered a few prints as a trial from Sam's (which I didn't think were great) and from Target which weren't bad, but I wouldn't say outstanding. Looks like Snapfish is less expensive than the Target prints were too. Now if only I could make the time to do it!! Finally this past weekend we viewed the photos via the TV. It looks like we have some great shots, so I am anxious to get some prints made too.

We got a phone call yesterday from DCL. Ordinarily this would have been great news, but given the circumstances it's amusing....
We rebooked while onboard. Told Donna, the agent that we wanted to go on the Western in January 2006. Since those dates had not been released, she said to book for Jan. 2005 (same season for pricing purposes) and she would note in our reservation that we really want to go in Jan 2006. My sister's family did the same, so we were linked. We booked cat. 10 cabins. Well, DCL calls both our houses yesterday to tell us that we have been upgraded to cat. 8 deluxe oceanview, next to each other on deck 7. If we were really going then, we would be ecstatic!! But, we thought it was funny. I suppose not a coincidence either! Perhaps they are trying to get us to come next year, instead of waiting 2 years?! ::yes:: Isn't unusual for them to make an upgrade like that so far in advance? In two DCL cruises we have never been upgraded, so I wasn't sure if they ever do it well ahead of time.

Hope everyone is doing well. I am getting hopeful (maybe too much so) that the worst of winter is behind us. Here's looking to spring!

Oh man, now I'm going to get a reputation!!!

Gail and I are fully settled back into reality now. :( As you can see by the signature, we're already counting the days to WDW and OKW.

I have to get around to posting more pictures. I've got all off them back on picture disk so it's time to get busy. Does anyone else have theirs on the web?

We are still healthy *knocks wood* and we haven't had any snow since we got back! As a matter of fact, it's supposed to be in the 40's for the next couple of days!

Kim, that's a great story! I hope they carry it forward to the other cruise!

HADD!!! :wave2:

I guess I haven't gotten back to reality yet! I didn't even think about the fact that my signature still says that we are Sailing with Mickey! I guess I have to take that off, but I want to update it with something else to look forward too (something sooner than two years from now!).

I hope that Annie and Randy are having fun at WDW this week!! Which week was best, West, East, or WDW? I really would be interested on a comparison of the East and West. We really enjoyed the Western cruise and were planning to do that again. But I have been thinking maybe it would be nice to do the Eastern next time. I would be interested in your thoughts when you return.

:wave2:

Nikki - So sorry to hear that Randy is hurt. That must just be terrible for him. I can imagine he would rather keep moving than have to stay still and think about it hurting. I hope he heals quickly and without complications.

Sorry too to hear about the intestinal things. We just got the cold bugs as well. Tony has had it the longest. I think I may have picked it up on the ship, but who knows. You can pick a cold anywhere. Thankfully, we are all doing well and haven't had to miss anything.....well, Tony managed to get out of going to the Young Peoples Concert of the Detroit Symphony. My older son was the lucky replacement! Really, he enjoyed it!

We have moved our 1/05 cruise to 12/10/05 Eastern now that the new dates are out. It is highly likely we will stick with that. It will include the boys 10th Birthday. We'll see what the May-August 2005 itineraries bring, but those months are the best Michigan has to offer. We rarely travel out of the midwest then. Never say never though.

Oh, you people are so clever! Trying to convince us that the picture of Gary in a Speedo is fake. Nice try, we know it is Gary! :teeth:

Yikes! Dr. office just called and told me that my surgery was scheduled for 5 am tomorrow!!!!! Guess they don't want me to have time to fret.

I'll post again once I'm functioning. I'm sure I'll be telling the or staff about my cruise as I'm drifting off.

Janice

We'll be thinking of you, Janice!! Hang tough!

ps - Juli, it's Glenn, Randy belongs to Karyn and/or Annie... ;) Yes, he's in alot of pain, it's somewhat scary that it's getting worse instead of better as the days go on...I'm trying to read up on the things to watch out for. *sigh* I'm used to him cutting himself, but he's never been burned this badly and this extensively before. :(

Prayers and Pixie Dust, Janice. Let us know when you can.

Dean

Janice, thinking about you this morning. Saying some prayers and throwing pixie dust your way.

Hi Everyone-
We hope Janice & Glenn are doing better this morning!

I had to really search for this board this morning! I didn't think about looking on page 1!!!

I think I really have the post-cruise blues! All I have is work and more work! I don't have anything to plan, no tanning to go to, no packing to do-- just work!!! I think we have to start planning another trip! I do enjoy still reading the posts from all of you though! Can't wait to see some pictures!

Dorie

Janice and Glenn

Our thoughts are with you. Lots of Pixie Dust coming your way!!!

HADD!!! :wave2:

Hi everyone,
I've been swamped since we got home and just got back on the boards. I wanted to ask some of you some questions, but I'll read the posts first...
good to 'see' you again, Renae

Hi Guys,
Here are my immediate questions:

Karyn, How was your move? Have you unpacked the computer yet?

Gary and Gail, Was the John you mentioned the one from Scotland with the 'Dennis Quaid' smile? He was our head server in October and we liked him so much we have kept in touch and looked him up this time, but I guess you have to be a little nuts to play along with the pranks he pulls...

Cap, how can I get a copy of your group photo? My printer is lousy, so I can't do it that way...

Did anyone get digital photos of the Golden Mickey's? I didn't have a good enough camera or seat to get shots of that or of the decorations outside the theatre and I really want them! pouts...

Hi again,

I had a few surprises on this cruise that were pretty amazing. I thought I knew this ship well.

As a cast member, I couldn't choose our room or category. We ended up on deck 2 right under the dance floor in Rockin' Bar D. It wasn't bad except on 70's night. For a disco queen, you would have thought I'd like that right over my head... not! I totally understand those of you who say you need a night light to see the clock!

Another surprise was the rain and wind. I have a funny photo of me on deck on that night after leaving Cozumel with my hair blowing straight up! Funny...

Being on deck 2, I thought we'd miss out on any motion of the ship, but with the waves, we were rockin'! I wondered that last night before CC if they needed seatbelts on the beds. I can only imagine what Janice felt clear up on deck 8!

I have to say that a family reunion on board is the best way we've ever done it, and especially with elderly parents who need a lot of rest, that made the trip excellent. Mom got great care and Dad had a blast. Seeing him hold a stingray in his arms, care of Capt. Marvin, made the whole week for us. BTW, Capt. Marvin is older than my DFIL, and they hit it off great! Did you know that he is the one who started the whole stingray city tour thing? He's 87 this year! We sure loved him.

I'm back to work at Disney and everyone is talking about the comcast thing. None of us know what will happen, but we are sure that they wouldn't dare change the name or the operation of the parks. One, there is too much money into it and too much to be made from keeping it the same. 2. that there would be a worldwide lynch party for anyone who dared to close the parks or anything else. Keep the faith and wait to see what will happen at the stockholders meeting on March 3.

Anytime any of you come to Orlando, let me know and we can try to meet you or something!

Renae

Cap,
THANK YOU! Those photos were great! Thanks for sending them!!!

I love that the speedo guy is hiding his face. It's black too, so it could be any of a number of guys... hmmmmm....

Hope you are doing well today Janice. Hang in there!

AuntRenae,

Someone else sent the photo. I've been off this thread for a few days, so did not do it. Perhaps it was Dean.
