Can I use dark transfers on 95 cotton/5 spandex shirts? Thanks!

I have personally never tried it but since it has so little spandex, it would probably work fine. This is just a guess on my part. I would try it on one and just see how it works. If you decide to try it, be sure to post back so we will all know.

I bought light transfers. All my shirts are white. If I do a DISign with white surrounding it (like a mickey head) do I need to trim that to just the shape of the mickey head, or will it not matter since its a white shirt?
Also, do I need to flip the images so the words are backward?

Be sure to read your directions very carefully but most light transfers do require you to flip or rotate the design before printing.

As far as trimming, you would not need to trim if you wish not to but I might suggest trimming the bulk of the white off. Just because the transfers do not allow the shirt to be as breathable and the least amount of transfer, the better. I would just trim loosely around the image, no need to trim closely.

Just picture that all the white areas of the design will be light grey. It would probably look OK. I would also love it if you could post the largest size of this design (if you have it any larger). It is so cool, I would love to have it!

My DH is excited about me designing shirts to wear. However, he doesn't want me to use colored backgrounds or too much ink. He thinks that I should find a local screenprint shop to print these for me or ask someone on here to do it. I tried convincing him that it's easier for me to do b/c 1. It's illegal to make money off of Disney designs and 2. I designed on Microsoft Word, so there's no real way of getting the prints to someone else. I told him that if he's that worried about the wear & tear on our home printer, then he needs to buy me a cheaper printer just for this purpose.

Good luck! Let DH do the legwork to find a screenprint shop then as I discovered when 2 shops heard I had DISNEY designs on my shirt they wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole b'c of Copyright issues which state something about making a profit (and since you'd be paying the shop for their work on your shirts, they would be making a profit). I suspect you'll find the same problem with trying to get someone here to do it... unless perhaps if you can barter with someone.

Tell him just to buy you the color ink - after all, how many hundreds of shirts do you plan on making??? And just what brand of printer do you have that he thinks it would get too much wear and tear? (I have an HP office jet & I made at least 70+ shirts a year ago last March and April and just needed INK!

I don't mean to sound snide but designing does come at a cost... and the cheapest way IMHO is to print them yourself. (that or go topless!)

Here's a question. I've been reading through the 'Mouse Head Name Design' thread, and its got me working on a design for a June trip. The design has white elements and I'm considering colored shirts. So from what I've read, I need to use DARK transfer paper.

BUT, I do not want the design in a white box. So how do I get just the design without a white background?

Yes, you would want to use a dark transfer if you are putting that design on a colored shirt. Your best bet would be to make the background the shirt color - like the purple one you posted and simply cut around the design as closely as you wish. With a light transfer, the only way it will be a color on the transfer is if the printer prints it. I am not sure how dark the white would need to be for the printer to actually print it. But if there is no ink on a light transfer, it will be clear. I hope this helps!

a light transfer on a colored shirt - hard to tell here but the words aren't very "sharp" because of the colored shirt (very disappointing - could barely read it)

or you can eliminate the white box on the dark transfer by using a different colored background on a colored shirt and cutting away as much of the white on the transfer as possible...

If you look above at the pink t with the Pixie Princess you will note that there is NO WHITE SHOWING - I used DARK transfers. Let that be your guide....

Actually NO if she's cutting all the white away and the only thing that's being printed on the dark transfer is COLORED INK, there will be NO WHITE left (assuming 100% of the white is colored with colored ink).

And if the shirt is too dark, nothing will show up well. So a light colored shirt, i.e. light blue, light green, etc. would be fine as long as you don't mind the color of your shirt being the background of your design.

yep, see my blue t pix posted above (Team Arbonne Relay for Life shirt); it depicts a light transfer on a light blue background. If it was for myself, I would have redone it b'c it wasn't "good enough" - too hard to see - but it was only for my lil sis and she wore it anyway. I would not recommend light transfers even on light blue shirts based on my experience above.
