20 steps to making a custom shirt using DARK transfers - "how-to" procedures

Thanks for the tips. I have only used the light transfers and I did not like the way they came out. I will for sure be buying dark transfers this time.
 
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? :confused3 I've got this design:

on my ds' shirt, got it cut out fine, the whole thing looks good. But the lightsabers will not stick! Does it have something to do with them being so thin? I really didn't want to put the pic on a background, but I'm thinking I might have to. I'm using the Avery dark transfers, prewashed shirts w/no fabric softener or dryer sheets, am waiting until the parchment paper is completely cool before lifting, etc... I'm thinking about ordering AmyMickey's transfers - would they do better???
