20 Cans of Tuna

Tuna melts with rye and swiss. Then- I'd donate it to the food pantry.

Cans don't spoil. Use just one can a week to add variety to your diet.

My favorite tuna ecipe that is not a sandwich is creamed tuna on toast. You just make a basic white sauce and then put drained tuna in..it doesn't taste fishy and and put over buttered toast makes it a nice comfort food. I do this with canned chicken and thin sliced sandwich meat also.

When I make tuna noodle casserole (not often BC dh won't eat tuna either) it's one box of elbow noodles (cooked), one can of drained tuna, and one can of cream of mushroom soup. Sometimes a splash of milk if it's really thick. If you do it when the noodles are hot I just stir and eat. I don't bake it.

I would definitely donate all the cans to a food bank. If you don't like this item, it isn't a good buy for you at any price. But for some family, it might be the only meat they get in a week. Donate.

Tuna is not big group friendly. The OP says herself that she hates tuna. Why on earth would you think it's ok to make a freakin "tuna loaf" to serve to anyone? Geesh, just donate the tuna to the food bank and make something that most people, if not all can eat.

It's not a bargain no matter how cheap if it's nothing one can use.

Also, my guess is that it's not even albacaore tuna, but that cheap dark stuff:sad2: Sometimes, I just do not get it.

Please for the love of God, please just donate it. Don't make anything warm with tuna, I eat almost everything, but tuna cooked is just beyond disgusting. Sorry, I just have to be blunt about this one.

:confused3and what would that be?

I think pretty much everyone here recognizes that when you cook for large crowds you make enough food so people will have options. Some people don't like tuna, some people do. The same could be said for any food.

I don't think anyone here suggested making tuna loaf and expecting a crowd of people to be happy. One person mentioned that they know someone who makes tuna loaf.

I don't see any difference between offering an option with tuna and offering something with red meat, or tomatoes, or cheese. There are people that don't eat all these things.

ummmm I'm going to pop a tuna noodle casserole in the oven for supper tonight. That dish is MY comfort food .. Good thing DH won't be home, he won't touch the stuff.

I love Tuna Casserole - it's comfort food for me; growing up, we always had it during Lent. My mom wasn't a great cook, but it was easy and she couldn't mess it up. (1 box cooked elbow macaroni, 1 can tuna, 1 can cream of mushroom soup.)

A garden salad mixed with green olives (no mayo) and tuna is delicious. The salty, sour olives go nicely with the tuna fish. Dress it with red wine vinegar and a little olive oil plus fresh finely chopped parsley and white pepper.

To me, tuna doesn't keep more than a day, so leftovers aren't really a good thing, imo.

I like Tuna on Toast - had that growing up every once in a while. Perhaps it's a western US thing....

Okay Everybody

Here is your challenge. Come up with some sort of recipe that I can use 10 or 20 cans of Tuna. I hate Tuna. I will never eat Tuna. I bought Starkist Tuna for 34 cents a can today, and figure I can use it to cook at the Ronald McDonald House.

So I know you Budget Minded folks will have some great ideas. If I don't get any good ideas I will just donate the Tuna to the food pantry, or give it to a teenage trick-or-treater.

thanks in advance
Make tuna salad sandwiches . . . but put a little bit of apple (diced finely) into the tuna mixture. It'll make your tuna taste just like chicken salad. Strange but true.

I don't really want tuna loaf either, but I do like tuna casserole and tuna salad. However, even tuna loaf sounds better than being hungry. You know, that old "Beggars can't be choosers" thing. Tuna may not be your favorite, but that's just preference -- tuna's a perfectly good, healthy food. If you're hungry, you'll eat it. Anyway, if it's donated to a food bank, people can cook it into whatever suits them.

Who says this? Me. A kid who grew up eating free breakfast/lunch at school and government cheese, peanut butter, and butter. And I lived to tell the tale.

I like tuna casserole as well and it doesn't matter in that if the tuna is highest quality of not. In a tuna salad you want the albacore. In a tuna casserole, the chunk light will be wonderful. I hate cream of anything soup, so I make a bechamel, put in sliced mushrooms, tuna, salt and pepper. Mixed with cooked pasta of any kind. layer in a casserole dish and top with broken potato chips and bake. My children (who do not like tuna) eat this up.

I make a macaroni salad with tuna, everyone loves it. My kids won't eat any other.

Mac salad w/ tuna

In large bowl add:
2-3 stalks of celery diced
1-2 carrots shredded
1 full tablespoon green relish
salt and pepper to taste
(one small onion diced fine if you like onion)
1 large or 2 small cans of drained shredded tuna

Add to that mixture one pound of cooked elbows or med. shell macaroni
Mix well with enough mayo to coat well

The cheesy version of Tuna Helper is one of my favorites. If they don't have the version that has the peas in it, you can add peas and that gives it a little color.

My mom used to mix a drained can of tuna into an undiluted can of cream of mushroom soup, heat it, and spoon it over toast. We ate it with a fork. I loved it and still do!

My mom used to do a similar thing but with salmon. She would add peas to it and we would have cream peas and salmon on toast. I havent had it in years.

To the OP, I'm confused. If you hate tuna and would never eat it, why buy so much. I know, it was a good price and you may use it for special events or to donate to a food bank or what have you but why that many.

I like tuna in a pasta salad. Well I like it in a lot of things but I do only buy white tuna, not the light tuna(ick). Cook your pasta and then add salad dressing (miracle whip type) or I also like using three cheese ranch. Add some cheddar cheese, and tomatoes or whatever other vegetable you would like in it and it makes a nice salad. It is better if it is made a few hours ahead of time.

Good luck with the tuna.
